  • For those who don't know, ripe jackfruit has a very sticky gum, especially at the core. He cut the fruit skilfully, but it is a raw jackfruit so it was easier and less messy to cut. With a ripe jackfruit it's easier just to pull the segments out by hand/spoon. They come out very easily, but can be very sticky so greasing your hand/spoon in some veg oil is useful.

    • Nope, this is a ripe jackfruit. They selectively breed jackfruits and have managed to find varieties with less latex. Those pieces are yellow and he’s packing them in trays to be sold as snacks. You can also tell because the spines have broadened and aren’t pointy anymore.

    • @@ya00007 sometimes a little crunchy and some varieties are more chewy and soft. Usually it’s fairly juicy and has a flavor close to juicy fruit bubblegum mixed with other tropical essences. Tough to find a ripe one in the states unless you’re in a major city, you can also order online from tropical fruit web stores but they are even more expensive. They used to be about $0.99/lb but now I see them closer to $1.99/lb and online prices are highway robbery without even getting to pick your own.

    • @@mattywomp5167 I live in London, UK. The Banglideshi community in the UK eat a lot of it and their grocery stores all sell them especially in the summer. But that fruit is quite expensive and at the moment there's quite a selection of mangoes from Pakistan, India and Banglidesh and everyone loves mangoes. Do you get mangoes from these countries where you live?

  • Am sorry, but all the units are injured during the cutting. I always keep each unit full and one piece. I use o knife just to open the fruit into two and the rest i.e. removing each unit is done manually, without using a knife. Anyway, I adore this fruit. I never throw away the seeds. Instead I consume them boiled, roasted or even as a meal in curry together with potato and egg plant with turmeric and spices. BTW, am a Mauritian.

Or while it’s still green you can cook the skin and consume with fish paste sauce it’s sooo good . Then once it turn out yellow or darker yellow meaning it’s fully ripe you can eat alone or make it to desert with sticky jasmine rice and coconut so delicious . As well the seed of its fruits just steam , boil it or roasted it turn out very powder sweet creamy potatoes texture . Cambodia it’s. Boreal territories and tropical so Jack fruits it’s well-known all over Cambodia island depending the season as well . • Whenever I’m in the Philippines I always have ripe jackfruit pieces, logans, rambutans and peeled pomelo in the fridge ready to cool me down as a quick, healthy and inexpensive snack. In California that plastic tray he assembled would be priced at $20. Even at that price, I’d buy it.

  • We can take the fruit by hand and thereby reduce wastage. By cutting with knife you are wasting ends part of the fruit. This is how we peel out jackfruits without wastage in Tamilnadu, India. We spread gingilly oil in hands to lubricate to avoid the sticky latex.
