Next week on Baisakhi, it will be four decades since India launched ‘Operation Meghdoot’ to foil Pakistani designs and gain full control of the Siachen glacier. To date, it remains the Indian Army’s longest deployment, one that continues. A decade ago, a book titled ‘Beyond NJ 9842: The Siachen Saga’ was published. Set on the world’s highest battlefield (about 20,000 feet) where the inhospitable terrain and harsh weather are any soldier’s worst enemy, the book is a tribute to the indomitable human spirit against all odds. It’s a portrayal of valour and sacrifice through the eyes of Indian army personnel who have been there, done that. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale narrates what led him to write the book.

    • Sir, saw your interview with Gen. Yash Mor on his channel. Had also read about you in Mr. Nitin Gokhale's book. I can't even imagine how tough it must have been, given the infrastructure and also the technology back then, for you & your men to occupy Bilafond La. I salute you, Sir.

  • I own the kindle and hard copy. I have read and re-read the book. Can't recommend this book enough. If already read then one can also consider books by Harish Kapadia and Shiv Kunal Verma' as well. I am not aware if Nitin managed to write his book on north-east eventually. I think he should. Many of us are in search of good contemporary history writing on that part of India. With our renewed focus on the `Bhagyalakshmi` states, we need to know where we came from. Thank you SNG team. Jai Hind.

  • india is in danger of losing siachin glacier to china this time. China is having great designs over whole ladakh which is strategicly located between aksai chin and north east pakistan. China and pakistan is working together to cut off ladakh from rest of india The first step is the chinese are already controlling depasang plains very near to DBO road
