The best comparison I can give is "LSD Dream Emulator". It's definitely got that weird, experimental, trippy exploration aspect that has some definite promise; it also reminded me of this other game Mark played which was modeled like a museum and it was basically a tech demo where you could play around with your environment in the strangest way. Like, objects in the distance could be grabbed and it's revealed they're actually small, and vice-versa you can grab an object real close and look at it from a different angle and put it back down and suddenly it's bigger. I think it was part of a video series of Weird Games he played, but I forget which one as I don't remember what it was called. But yeah...stuff like that fascinates me. :D

The second game was really giving backrooms with the different sceneries. I loved it. Also, Romut is such an amazing game despite it being quite short.

It's about liminal spaces specifically. The backrooms is just a part of it, but people are just focusing a lot more into the backrooms because it has actual lore. And then people decided to add the other liminal space images into the backrooms lore.

It’s exactly what I wanted to see more of in a comment I made in Mark’s specific “From The Darkness” video. A game I watched Gab Smolders play a whiiillee back. Yeah, it had the PT influence shit in the beginning, but almost every indie game has some PT influence in it. I *was* excited to see influence from “From The Darkness” (It Came From The Darkness) an amazing, dark horror game that uses the use of darkness as a great game mechanic. Having to turn the lights off to do something; and the use of ominous red lighting- this game was definitely influenced by it. I could clearly see it. Really makes me feel good, smart and hopeful for future indie horror games.

I think the smiling man is based on a creepy pasta called the same thing. It was about this guy who liked to go on jogs super early in the morning and on one of his morning jogs he sees a man looking straight up to the sky walking drunkenly in his direction. The runner slowed down and watched the dude slowly walk down the side walk when he suddenly stopped. The runner asked the guy what was wrong but he just started laughing which creeped him out and he tried to jog past him. Has he passed the weird guy the dude takes off running after him still looking straight up at the sky. The runner starts freaking out and running fast, but the man somehow is still right behind him. After running for a while the runner stops and spins around and the man just stops but still looks up at the sky. The runner screams “WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME” and the man finally looks him in the face revealing a mangled smile and the runner screams and that’s the end.
I read one that was similar, pretty much exactly the same as that but from what I can remember the "smiling man" was staring at the sky and dancing towards him. The jogger looks away and then back at the smiling man and finds that in the few seconds he looked away the smiling man was in a different place and eventually it ends up with him being chased. I'm pretty sure the one I read started off saying how his night time walks were considered odd by his friends and how he plans to never do it again. So definitely heavily inspired by the Smiling Man story, though I think the papers and the cashier were new.
