Hi Guys! In this video I'll be trying some of the most popular foods in Cape Town! We will be starting at the Eastern Food Bazaar and ending at Steelies, where I try Cape Town's signature sandwich.. The Gatsby! #capetown #southafrica
My mistake guys!! The dishes at the Eastern Food Bazaar are about double the price of what’s being shown in the video! I forgot the pricing and looked them up online but I think the menu is a little dated with pricing. Sorry!!

Value for money if you are not South African, but I'm glad you are enjoying yourself. We Capetonians would rather make our own foods it's much cheaper than buying.

Gatsby looked decent , however there is only one go to Gatsby and that's full house masala steak ! :)
No doubt my bru. Golden Plate Athlone had the best. Been in Durban for 13 years. I miss those full house gatsbys
I agree - Steak Masala Gatsby is the way to go. And Golden Dish, Athlone has the best IMO!

The gatsby is the undisputed king of fast food in the Western Cape. Very difficult to replicate it at home that's why most people don't bother and that's why most buy it to enjoy that authentic taste. The best thing is you never get a gatsby for yourself cause it's a great meal with friends etc. Glad you enjoyed!

I have to say I dislike the Gatsby and really don't know what the hype is about...I would much rather have a beautifully fresh cooked fish...my opinion! @@nicolemd33
We can add... you can get it on both ends of the spectrum. Your one you had in this vid leans more to the "gourmet" end. We can go the other way...much "cheaper"....and could possibly taste x1000 better than the one you had. I will state that I do enjoy the one you had...probably No2 on my list....

Snoekies is definitely not the best fish & Chips. Next time u back try Fishhoek Fisheries or Kalkies. Great video BTW 👏

OMG! I have to comment right now! I'm just about half way through and I have to say those fish and chips look better than the UK! I'm American living in the UK 11 years now! A foodie too and love fish and chips. They look amazing! But I guess I have to wait for you guys to actually taste it first... I got too impatient once the guy served it from those gynormous paper bags! I began typing away. too soon.Okay, let's see how it is... Those big bags of fried fish! My mouth is watering yo! How was it? Prawn and chips looked bad A$$ too! You did a great job on thid video. totally imfomative but laid back casual.you keep keepin on!
That’s so cool you’ve been living in the UK for so long! My boyfriend is from London and says he liked the fish and chips at snoekies the best! The prawns were, in my opinion, the same level of goodness as the fish and chips!
Our other local fish is hake, which is more like the UK fish. Snoek is a game fish... dryer texture and several large bones, but very flavourful. You made the right choice to experience the more local choice!

I highly recommend visiting Mariams in CBD, it wad my go too spot when working in Capetown, Food lovers market is a must also, the variety is just exquisite. I'll NEVER forget SA, was an experience of a lifetime!!!! ❤💯

Snoek can be kinda hit-or-miss, depending on who prepares it (sorry, mom, I don't like your snoek). You can't go wrong with hake though. Hake and chips are the best.

@@nicolemd33Snoek is definitely the way to go, Hake is basically like cod, tasteless.. Hake flavour just come from the spices that’s added to the batter. You get Snoek outside Cape Town, it’s called barracuda, but most places don’t serve it outside South Africa because of all the bones, apart from the bones I think it’s one of the best tasting fish you can get. You should definitely try Red Roman fish if you still in the Cape Town area, it’s quite rare to find it but if you manage I guarantee you will love it!m

you can get around CT without a rental car, do the local taxis or uber. Or even the public busses. I have done CT 4 times (3 months the first trip) w no car and been to Stellenbosch, Hout Bay, Constantia, Simon's town multiple times no problem.

Yeah but the local taxis is not really an enjoyable experience. I would not recommend especially if you're with a female.
hi there, love the video but there's a few other places you should have tried as well. to name just a few..... 'cape to curry' u should try "the thing", "golden dish" for a salomie and sunrise in mowbray for a variety of roti gatsbys. enjoy

I’d definitely recommend you rather try out Fish On The Rocks for fish and chips (best hake everrrr) it’s just around the corner from Snoekies and I’d recommend a Cosy Corner or Continental full house Gatsby next time 😉

NevOakes.....If you havnt been to BONA in Grassy Park, then uve missed out on one of Trailblazers in the original GATSBY,which had its origins on the Cape Flats...ie....ATHLONE....

The reason why you hear so much honking is because the minibus taxis use it as a means to communicate to potential passengers that they have open seats and they also ride fixed routes.

No no no, how can that be a bee-sting if there’s not honey and nuts on top of it, that place was obviously trying to be different. A proper Cape Town bee-sting is the crispy donut roll with cream and custard inside and then honey and nuts on top finished off with a dusting of powdered sugar

I am a Capetonian and really enjoyed the video showing off my hometown. If I may give some constructive criticism. Little less of you in the videos and a little bit more of the places you are visiting. Obviously you eating the food is important, but while moving around would be nice to see more of your surroundings with you narrating in the background....

The fact that the koeksister didn’t taste like you expected is because ymthat wasn’t a real koeksister. Real koeksisters are golden yellow to brown and braided and syrupy. That was a doughnut.
