Green Day - Longview and J.A.R. - Live in Oakland

Green Day - Longview and J.A.R. - Oakland, Live, 12-10-16, 1st row, Oracle Arena. Billie Joe: You fu*king rule kid. You get to keep that guitar! ~8:20 (The look on the kid's face! lol)
Other Tidbits:
2nd Night of Live 105's sold-out Not so Silent Night. Everybody waiting in line got heavily rained on from ~9am to 3pm while they lined up early for the show :P Many fans recognized each other from previous shows. One of us (who was also the 2nd person in line!) even got called up to join the band on stage for ‘Know Your Enemy’!
For ‘Longview’, Billie invited a young fan to play and sing with them. After the end, the kid asked Billie Joe and Mike Dirnt if he could play another song. After listing a few he knew, he then choose ‘J.A.R.’ Afterwards, Billie was so impressed that he let the kid keep the guitar, which pleasantly shocked him and all the fans. The guitar, named 'Buddy', is/was Billie's backup guitar to 'Blue' (!). / bjwkqk1h04g
Before ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’, Billie Joe paid tribute to the victims of the Ghost Ship warehouse fire in Oakland. “What I’ve always loved about the Bay Area is that we have the best freaks and weirdos on the planet. This is our own… this is our people… friends of friends… So my heart goes out to all those people who perished in the warehouse.”
Unlike the October 20th Green Day show we went to at the UC Theatre which ended well after midnight, the Oracle Arena’s curfew was 11:30pm, so there was no encore this time. There was also a lot more crowd surfing this time as well :P We were in the 1st row for that one as well, and the only crowd surfers I remember going over us were the 2 that were invited up on stage, lol, I believe the 1,400 UC Theatre might have been a bit too small for a mosh pit to break out :P

  • The coolest parts about this and videos like this are: A)The fan being so confident in his abilities that he can play the song with the band that wrote the song, and B) The willingness of the band to give up an entire part of their preplanned set to a fan who claims they know their music, and have it go off without a hitch.

    @nickcervenka8756@nickcervenka87563 жыл бұрын

  • J.A.R is such an underrated song

    @garryrptr@garryrptr Жыл бұрын
  • J.A.R." is a song by the American rock band Green Day. Written by bassist Mike Dirnt about a friend who died by suicide in a car crash,[4] the song was a previously unreleased track from the Dookie sessions but it was later featured on the soundtrack to the movie Angus in 1995. In August 1995, the song reached number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and spent 16 weeks on it. The song peaked at number 22 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. The song was featured as the eighth track on Green Day's 2001 greatest hits collection International Superhits!, and on their 2011 live album Awesome as Fuck. The acronym stands for 'Jason Andrew Relva', a childhood friend of Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt. Jason Relva was born on November 16, 1972, and died at the age of 19 on April 18, 1992, as the result of injuries sustained from a car crash. Mike Dirnt wrote the song in remembrance of him.[5] In an interview, Dirnt suggested that Relva had intended to die by suicide since Relva had been reportedly going 95 miles-per-hour before the crash.[4] Jason Relva is thanked in the liner notes of 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk. PopMatters listed "J.A.R." as the ninth best Green Day song, commenting "It's a winner in its own right, and in a sense, its bubbling bass, buzzing chord crashes, and Tre Cool's killer chorus drum beat is the Platonic ideal of a Green Day song."[9] Both Mark Hoppus of blink-182 and Chris DeMakes of Less Than Jake rated "J.A.R." as their favorite Green Day song. Hoppus stated that the opening guitar riff of the blink-182 song "What's My Age Again?" was created by him trying and failing to play the opening bass riff of "J.A.R." on his guitar. -Source: Wikipedia I believe it was recorded on Dokkie album demos, but it didn't make the cut cause the subject of the song wouldn't fit the rest of the album.
