Suspected offence of flying a drone in public... wtf?

Guess what? They were wrong about DVSA inspectors having the power to stop a private car. This is what the Government website says.. "As a commercial driver, you might be asked to stop by the police or a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) examiner. They can stop vans, lorries, buses and coaches"

He states he doesn’t know the Law. But his opening Gambit was that you were not allowed to fly a drone!

He had the fucking nerve to say he's given you enough of his time

We went from "you've commited an offence" to "I suspect you've commited an offence" to "I'm a traffic officer, I'll go get another officer, who fly drones to se if you have commited an offence" - these guys are a joke.

Copper knew after 7 minutes he was in the wrong, but his way to big ego forbade him to walk away. So he kept digging deeper the hole he was in.

The badge which states No Excuse Team is is extremely relevant to this encounter. First I wasn't aware that this force are employing tramps, and his ignorance really is what it applies too: No Excuse for gross ignorance. Says it all. Great job, keep up the good work.

I’m a Traffic Officer who doesn’t know much about traffic either. You could smell the smoke coming off his back pedalling, his bullshit flap valve was wide open !! Read the CAA rules and still didn’t understand why he was talking bollox. Well done for educating at least three of the ‘force’ !

Desperate. He continues to tell you that you can't do it because he's concerned about health and safety. My gf is a health and safety professional. He's supposed to be a cop. I don't think he was reasonable at any point tbh. He was arrogantly ignorant throughout. They should be able to do the job they're being trained on without getting distracted. I worked in construction for decades and I don't recall asking people to be quiet so I could concentrate. All part of the learning process. 😂

Apparently the officer wants you and your drone to refrain from coming within sight of any Attention Deficit Officers (from here on known as ADOs) to decrease chances of the public knowing they are lacking basic knowledge in the job they are there to perform.

I’m not sure he was that humble or reasonable, alleging an offence had been committed and demanding your details. He could have either swallowed his ego, admitted the error, and said ‘thank you sir, goodbye’… OR… pathetically attempt to justify himself and re-apportion the blame away from himself. If the officer knew the right legislation, he could obtain your operator ID and your details - without any suspicion of an offence. But sadly he was clueless.

What is not forgivable is attempting to blag it, claiming that there is a law being broken, and expecting that if he says it, and demands your information, with enough authority, you will believe it and comply. He should have accepted the fact that he doesn't know for sure, before saying a word to you, and he should have sought advice before trying to impose on you. It's also disappointing that his own failure to comply with body worn video and uniform policy is apparently something to be casually dismissed as irrelevant. Funny how he is very concerned with your compliance with the law and regulations, but his own, actual, breaches don't matter. He doesn't seem like a terrible bloke but so much of this still reflects what is wrong with modern policing in this country.
