The Unsung Heroes of the Arctic - Ep. 3 | Wildlife: The Big Freeze
Polar bears dominate the Arctic animal headlines; it’s hard for anything to escape their shadow. In this episode we meet an unexpected array of smaller species that each have their own peculiar but no less entertaining strategies for surviving in this brutal environment. The tiny arctic fox might look cute, but it’s actually a killing machine. The arctic hare may be fluffy and have comical ears, but it’s both a master of camouflage and one of the fastest animals here. The snowy owl has sacrificed speed for a mightier secret weapon: silence. We find a lemming (a tiny brown rodent) running around in a blizzard, a big mistake when silent assassins are flying overhead. Although these unsung heroes are some of the few who’ve perfectly adapted to this place, the environment is changing fast. Warming temperatures are allowing enemies to move north, encroaching on these Arctic specialists.

Though polar bears and seals are the most iconic mascots of the Arctic, there are many animals in this brutal environment worthy of attention. Which Arctic animal is your favorite?
It's hard to decide there all oh so fascinating ♡♡♡♡
Did anybody get epic goosebumps with the northern lights I did
The Arctic Fox :)
I like Arctic wolves and foxes. I never heard of the snow chicken that's pretty cool that I can live up there

Thats easy just carry out some RUM.
I did not mean that I just like to make jokes I am talking to Nat Geo.
The real unsung heroes are the members of the camera crew.
You said it right mate...
They are provided the electronic equipment, warm enough wear, place to live and sleep: How are they heroes? The heroes ARE the wild life.
That's exactly that I am going to comment
Markus E they made it possible for all of us to see this film..thats why
@@markuse3472 Because they are in environment they are not evolved to be in? For the animals its just another day lol
I just love seeing a person who loves his job so much
0:32 “Master of camouflage” Literally the first thing I see is a bunny on the left side just chilling
He do be vibin doe
I saw the bunny when they did the first over view, because there was a snow ball that looked to perfect, and had a different texture. But I thought I was just seeing things at first.
try that while freezing in the middle of the artic
Appreciate the efforts of cameraman just to let see

@@SAMMIsLIFE More accurately the misuse of technology and the refusal to adopt new technology because the old is part of well established trillion dollar global industries. In short, the problem is capitalism.
Gas plants & illegal mammals hunting are responsible for that
@@fl00fydragon So the problem is not corporatism, but predestination?
@@bubbykins4864 No, as I said, the problem is capitalism. The end results of one system are not the same across any system. You truly embody the phrase "some people would rather imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism".

SO sad that climate change is having such a horrific impact on such beautiful creatures and land... The artic fox is now suffering from encroachment by the red fox because of it. :(
NATGEO uploads about the Artic are the only thing keeping me cool this summer.
I love this cameraman

One of my favorite videographer, and the artic fox are so majestic!
We mustnt loose the artic fox! Magical little creatures
they aren't gonna be out competed, the red fox is prime food for wolves and an easy kill, its at a disadvantage due to its larger size and lack of camouflage
5:16 I have died of cuteness.
Oh my god, that polar lights in the end....! A single session covered the whole artic beauty. It was funny when redfox met artic fox. Well in that one moment, 8:35 eye to eye ,what might be their conversation!
Wow that camera crew & amazing footage hats off amazing what they went through to film this . ThAnks .
I worked in the arctic for years. The red fox are absolutely devastating the arctic fox population. When I started up there I seen hundreds of them. When I left two years ago I only seen a few a year but the reds were everywhere. It's not just the arctic fox that is having trouble. The geese are not able to defend their eggs from the much larger red fox. I have seen arctic fox fight for 15 minutes to get a goose egg and not be able to get it because momma goose can defend. Nature has evolved the two animals to be that way. Sometimes the fox wins, sometimes the goose. Not so with the red fox though. It's not the warmer climate that brings the reds to the arctic either, it's the roads. Nature has kept them out for how many years? Then they show up a few years after the road is put in and completely take over the place.
I'm sorry for the arctic foxes :( If what you write is true, roads seem to be their route towards extinction. Hope their population won't disappear completely though. On the other hand I want to say not all red foxes are like that, I'm a good red fox, not invading anyone's territory :D
The narrator is so serene and humble.... Just like arctic's snow😊😊
This guy is soo easy to watch! You can just feel his excitement and passion
