Bonjour à tous, After the Family open the sealed door to the cellar, we take a closer look and it leads them on to think about the chateaux past and what role it may have played during the Bloody Revolution. Ash talks us through the chateaux previous owners with links to louis XVI and Napoleon I, but how did it end and which side did he fight for?

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • I really think that this year, you ought to renovate/refurbish those two wrought iron "over hangs" on either side of that entrance, get them scrubbed off, cleaned up and painted and install the panels on it above....it will look so great when those are FINALLY done..and they also shield people from the elements when coming and going in and out! To know the history of your Chateau is amazing and I hope you keep uncovering even more!

  • The French Riviera was already a well-known health tourism destination by the 1800s for lung & breathing disorders, but Menton became synonymous with TB recuperation after a British doctor wrote several papers & a book in the 1880s specifically about it being the perfect place to recuperate from tuberculosis. If you look at the records of the deaths of the 2 previous chateau owners who died in Menton they will probably mention TB or something similar (I only know about this as my PhD was on place-related health & wellbeing, and I remember reading about this, albeit many years ago!).

  • OMG - what was the shadow skull face that appeared in the dark stairwell when Ashley first showed it???!! Very interesting vlog. Lots of research went in to it. Well done, team Lalacelle! ! Life was sure “interesting” (challenging) in the past. Looking forward to further discoveries!

  • So interesting! It just makes the imagination run wild to think about what the chateau would have been like during those times in the past. How wonderful that you're looking to preserve that history and pay homage to it with your own renovations to the chateau!

  • More, yes. If you can ad more pictures that would only enhance your enthusiastic and informative tale. Love this. Thank you. I personally think no detail is too small to bring the story to life.

  • With history now a days, it has slowly been taken away from us. This video has brought it back. It's amazing how this Chateau played an important role. For all men.

  • Great piece of history. But I’m all goosy having just seen the ghostly face emerging from the cellar followed by the gray lady walking across the hallway. Spooky!

  • I love learning the history of buildings. Where I live I often wonder about some of the old homes - who built them, what kind of work did they do, how much of an impact were they on society, etc. So please continue to share the chateau's history.
