It could have been a mother fox on instinct defending her pups and just that drive to protect them but to succumb to injures what I would call a broken neck and everyone knows that's what they do Martin,Fischer,Weasel,Mink, etc. Jump on the back and severe the spinal cord and he was in the process of doing that until he let go.It could've been a male fox protecting territory....Whatever the reason ROUND-1 Goes to the Fisher looks like nerve damage to the fox.
@jamessnow84473 жыл бұрын
"Attack" is a common strategy of defense for the weaker of of two animals fighting. That's why a squirrel or muskrat will often charge at a mink if it manages to get free of them for a moment, rather than trying to run away. This fox might have been fully aware that it couldn't outrun the fisher in its weakened state, but that charging right at it might thwart or delay the fisher's second attack.

Crazy that the fox was out matched and in a death grip. But even though it could probably outrun a Fisher (when not injured) it didn't make it's escape when the Fisher broke contact and instead attacked the Fisher and seemed to drive it off.
The fisher only broke off its attack because it was afraid of the human approaching it. Otherwise it would've easily killed that mortally wounded fox. It probably came back for the fox after the human left the area.

Rare footage indeed. That fisher cat is like a honey badger. They are tough and fearless
unfortunately this would not be over when the video ended. the fisher will easily track it. the foxes only real survival strategy here is outrunning it, which obviously isn’t an option for this unfortunate one. (fishers, like most mustilids, are incredibly agile and lightening fast but have short legs in relation to a long body and a healthy fox would easily outrun one). faint hope clause would be if a related fox came along.
There was a Fisher in my front yard last week. I know it was one because of the distinct sound they make. It was making the sound all the way into the distance. I have outdoor/indoor cats - I had better keep an eye on them because I heard the same animal a couple of weeks ago too.

The correct thing is to let nature take its course and not go too close to upset the process just to be able to take a video. The 'little fellla' is badly bitten and could end up having a long slow death from sepsis when it would have been better to have been finished off by the fisher and provided the meal for it it obviously needed.
Your mindset that “Nature [is] red in tooth and claw” is antiquated. Altruism is an important part of nature and the circle of life.
Orrrr what he did was right. The body is absolutely amazing and can rejuvenate itself. A couple claw marks and a bite probably wouldn’t have been enough to kill the fox so I’m happy it survived and got away as well as stood down it’s opponent. Cat like animals like to get their prey in a vulnerable position like on its back to snap the neck.
There's no right or wrong in nature, animals don't care how their prey feels, they're satisfying instincts nothing more. And as humans we have no real business doing anything about it either way.
I’m from Costa Rica! Great video!

The guy never told us what happened with the fox later. The bite to it did seem serious, but wild animals can survive what may seem serious damage as long as they have all four legs and two eyes to work with.

I have to give it to the fox though, it stood up for itself!
Looks like spring, for the fox to attack after he got away likely due to your presence. My guess is defending pups. I have seen foxes with this very injury and pondered Domestic dog ? Coyote? I didn’t think about a fisher and do have them in my area. Also a few pine martens but they are mostly further north.
The fisher was trying to avoid the foxes jaws long before the person startled it. The fisher not wanting to be attacked by what it perceived as a predator let go off the fox thus loss the advantage of avoiding the foxes teeth. Predators usually avoid direct conflict. If the fox ran immediately the fisher would have just jumped on it immediately because it could avoid the foxes jaws.
I'd say that fox was trying to protect its nearby den of little ones. I can't think of another reason it wouldn't run away when the fisher was spooked and ran up the tree.
Can't heal from the fight without consuming the flesh of your enemies.
Excellent observation.
It was doing what most animals do...don't turn your back on the predator as to allow it to gain control again. a Marten is an ambush predator. The fox probably had no idea what attacked it in the first place. it was in shock and didnt want to turn its back to the marten. its possible that there was a den nearby...

The fisher wasn't in a face off fight notice it was avoiding the fox teeth by maneuvering . Once it was startled by the human the fox was able to potentially bite back. Predators avoid direct conflict as much as possible. The reason the fisher let go in the first place is because it saw the human as a potential predator trying to catch it.

@@rogerparker9228 yes, that's exactly what they do their prey. They bite the back of the neck and sever the spinal chord. That fox was mortally wounded. The fisher probably came back later and finished it off.
Well the fastest way to get attacked is for the fox to turn its back while the predator is still close enough to jump on the fox back again. The fox having teeth as well could easily bite the fisher which is why the fisher ran once the human startled it. It is possible the fisher tracked the fox later but for the moment it wasn't trying to fight.
amorbid - What do you mean "ruthless attack by a predator"? You do know that the fox is also a predator, right?! What about the poor chickens this fox may come across?? Do you think that fox's are vegans? Give your head a shake!
@@bowl3864- Speak in terms that people can actually understand you or just shut the FK up already...a$$clown...
I thought the fisher was the aggressor but the fox had his chance to get away and went back after the fisher. Strange. The fox does look beat up though.
Fox most likely had pups in the area and was trying to scare the Fischercat away from them.
That fox knew he was done. Running was not an option. His spinal column was nearly destroyed at the base of his skull. That's what they do. He'll die. The fisher does not give up. They are small wolverines. The scent from the blood will take the fisher right to this stiff almost dead fox.
Comforting to know that the PA Game Commission just released an undisclosed number of these viscous beasts. My chickens had enough to worry about without these killers.
That is a big Fisher.
Fox is staggered, and virtually senseless, very lucky to be alive.
How can you film that? That poor thing screaming doesn't bother you?
How can you watch it
Whenever making videos outdoors, turn off auto-focus and just set the manual focus to infinity. Everything over 6 or 7 feet away will be in focus(large depth of field in daylight) and the camera will not be trying to focus on branches 3 ft. in front.
That Fox was hurt very badly, and maybe died after. He could not even keep his balance toward the end, walking on those logs. Those Fishers are vicious fighters. Looks like he got bit very badly under the right ear. If there was no human to scare off the Fisher, that fox would have been dead.
Fox went back for more, go figure!
Rabid?
@@MrWhoevr i was thinking the same thing....
Bluffing while the Fisher got spooked.
Fishers are incredible..
Fishers are evil. One ate my fricking neighbours cat!!!!!
@@springbonnie2300 I love cats but they're an invasive species and should never be let outside without a leash. The fisher ain't doing anything a cat wouldn't do.
Fisher definitely tracked him down for dinner after that
Dude you interupted a meal
I doubt he will survive those injury's.
Honestly. It looks like he had gotten a hold of the fox’s pinnia. He’s all Wobbly and such becuase the blood in his ear is throwing off his balance. If he gave the fisher a good enough injury to make him change his mind on fox food he’ll be fine. His ear will heal and he’ll have a nasty scar. Unless infection takes him. Thats the biggest worry here imo
@@FennecTECH yeah as long as he can catch food he’ll probably be fine, hard to tell if it’s early spring or late fall though
If that guy didn't show up the fox would have been done.
@@patcola7335 he shouldn've showed up, he interfered with nature
@@justafloridamanfromthe75thRR guess what. We are part of nature too
I never heard this animal.. just know it today
I think the fox is badly wounded, can't believe the Fisher let him go? Scary, ferocious beasts, those Fishers are.
Nice camera bro
A fisher or a bobcat literally woke me up while camping it was scary
Ive heard the same cry/moan at night. Really eerie, think its fisher challenge/pre-fight warning!
I'm surprised the Fisher couldn't "close the deal" quickly.
It's not easy picking on someone your own size, even if you're a better fighter.
Reuben Caldwell I think the Fisher was actually going to kill the fox, but notice the moment the cameraman took a step it suddenly bolted towards the tree
Fishers take their time. What they can't bite to death they exhaust.
Trust me the Fox was not okay. The fox was on the verge of collapsing from shock.
he's like, tssst, i'm fine...sorta... stinkin' weasles... i'll just walk it off... i'm fine.... thanks for the concern though.... stinkinweaslesanyway...
A young fox looks like it was being killed, maybe it died later from that bite wound.
He's not ok because Fisher would have done enough damage as it is and then he would go back for round 2
yea it easily could track it down and finish the job
@@soulfulfool ain't how those operate. if they miss they move to the next prey
Was that a grey fox-- or a cross fox (red fox color phase)?
How could you stand there and not do anything, i love it but qould feel so bad about this.
who was winning? cant really tell
That fox believe it or not will probably live wild animals are extremely tuff and rugged the fact he could walk after that guy spoked the fisher and the fox got away with his life
Gray foxes are not extremely tough. That fox was literally minutes from being lunch. I have my doubts he made it thru the night
I thought I knew damn near all animals I’ve never heard or seen a fisher
I know!! crazy huh? The American Marten is unstoppable...the Fisher is the missing link, between Pine Marten and Wolverine! The Mustelidae Family of Species are some mean mudderphuqers!!
Big in Adirondacks for certain. Farmers hunt them down..nothing safe around them,,.,dogs, cats, chickens, geese and yes, fish, in shallow waters.
@@denislinehan5581 I live at the base of the Adirondack park, and I can confirm your statement to be true, we have lose 4 cats in the past 2 years and countless amount of our chickens. Savage little critters
There not common, there is only 1 every like 100miles or something I believe. Also nocturnal, only ever seen one but here them crying all the time out my wimdow.
@@johnmccatherin5892 hard to believe you when you lack basic English skills, they are pretty common where I live, also mustelids are not just strictly nocturnal they will hunt in the day as well...back to Google school for John.
What kind of Fox was that??
Mama guarding her den. Probably killed all the pups and was still kinda hungry for mama.
The only thing I see wrong here is the fact it took him so long to stop it. We will never know if the fox survived or not but it would have had a better chance if he stopped it right away instead of allowing the fisher to injury it further.
That was hard to listen to.
That poor little fox. I couldn't bear it's crying.
I´ll bet many rabbits sqealed too, trying to convince the fox to go vegan..
@@STARDRIVE You sir, won the internet today. 😂
One of these two animals had kits it was protecting, not clear which! Really cool capture! 👍
I hate to see either one close by. They’ll both have a field day on my chickens if I’m not careful. Great video!
Dana Novak : but it's OK for you to have a field with your chickens later !!! Right ?! , like you really give a rat about your chickens staying alive !!! HYPOCRITE !
Non Available She eats the eggs, dipshit. 🥚
Fishers are supreme hunters and foxes will also kill anything they can.My guess is an adolescent fox who didnt recognize the danger a Fisher imposes and was about to pay the price for that mistake.
It is a young fox, no experience and my guess it was ambushed by the fisher.
Another youtube at beginning Fisher jump of the tree And bite to the fox neck If toe to toe fisher not easy to attached fox. My Friends
Didn't the fox have the upper hand here or am I missing something?
if a fisher and a fox are fighting in the forest and the fox gets fkt up does the fox fail or does the fisher get fed up and flee?
Mr. Cameraman saved that fox's life....for now. That was a big fisher.
Bro what are u talking about he didnt even do anything just let him get attacked the fox is probably dead now
Those fishers are evil. Bobcats eat em though☝🏻👍🏻
There was a fisher that killed a lynx after a scuffle!
@@markmcgee2369 wow. Maybe Bob cat kills smaller pine Martin. This Fisher looks to big eh.

First off,that ain’t no fix!
Its a gray fox
That Fisher went for the spine
I moved into my new home in a forest on 38 acres and my neighbor told me about this Fisher I have never heard of this animal until this evening.... I found what appeared to be the guts of a rabbit because of a pinch of fur but not one bone strickly guts and the poor things heart
Man i would have done the same thing poor gray fox
Fox sounds like it’s saying ow
Looks like a vixen. Though she did look a little plump. Prego perhaps? Likely reason for being confrontational.
