The Irishman is the best film of 2019, according to the National Board of Review. I couldn't agree more a skillfully made (writing, acting, cinematography, Music,editing, sound), well acted, cohesive and internally consistent story that has the ability to elicit emotion. The Oscar for best actor in a supporting role should go to Al Pacino
@alexbanana50524 жыл бұрын
@Ahmad Abugullo that's your opinion. But to me Phoniex was fantastic but that's not enough to say the Joker is the best film of the year to me it's overrated
@alexbanana50524 жыл бұрын
@Ahmad Abugullo and remember the Irishman will win more awards than Joker
@alexbanana50524 жыл бұрын
Joker is clearly overrated. All the advantages this famous character brings to the table leds to this conclusion : people were hyped way way way before and in their heads, it was already a masterpiece. Although Joaquin Phoenix is very good. My opinion is that the script was too much "sad" for nothing. Always an excuse to bring sorrow. Example : in the beginning, he is hit FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON, just to let the viewers sympathize with him. Bad building.
@isezm4 жыл бұрын
B Isma I see and understand what your saying, but the point wasn’t really to “sympathize” with Arthur at all. We all know that his character is going to turn into a serial killer. The point was to deliver a 2 hour character study on how this person went insane. And in my opinion it was a damn good one. Joker and The Irishman and the two best movies of the year.
@johnkerr30504 жыл бұрын
By giving a study like that one, viewers WILL sympathize. When you explain the reasons he became the joker, you kind of justify a little bit and viewers see you as a hero. The problem's not here. The problem is that it's not always shown correctly on screen. Too much sadness for nothing sometimes (my last example : the introduction). You can create sadness/violence without blaming society the way that film did. I personally had the feeling Arthur was NORMAL and didn't deserve a "STUDY". Instead of him, i would have become the same or worse if I lived in such a hell. Everyone is wicked, even the rich boys that have nothing to do with the cruelty from the poverty... Anyway, it was still a very good movie. Oscar-worthy ? For joaquin phoenix maybe but there's a lot of good competitors (de niro as sheeran, leonardo dicaprio as rick...)

I like this. Harmonicas always get to me. Growing up my Dad played the harmonica. We were campers back then. The family 71 Delta 88 pulled our Terry trailer. We'd caravan road trip the country every summer camping out riding motorbikes fishing swimming carefree times. The mom's good cooking the barbecuing and gather around the fire pit under the night's kazillion stars above most people never get to see in the city's glare gloom. And at some point good ole Dad (RIIP❣️) got out his harmonica he could play it well and had a juice harp too. Sure miss those days! Just a good memory moment brought on by The Irishman end credits tune!
@bruce921062 жыл бұрын
I totally get you. My dad was a harmonica player in his youth, and he came of age in the 60s and 70s, so I feel a special connection to the music and culture of that time.

I would only agree with this comment if they made 3 films. If they had broken it up with Hoffa dying in 3 , which they could have because there were so many great stories, it would have beaten Godfather all together. This is by far one of the greatest Mob movies of all time though, if not the best. Godfather is the only Mob film that competes with it.

@JosephQuillen8 ай бұрын
@JosephQuillen the pacing is so good and very pre sleep time friendly. There's a lot going on in the beginning to keep your attention but then it slows down and becomes quieter. If Scorsese decided to call it a career after The Irishman it would be his Magnum Opus. still might be imo
@MisterGutsy4208 ай бұрын
I think the song at the end is truly a send off for Martin Scorsese. The western sonority makes it ten times better : western and cowboys made gangsters and gangsters inspired Scorsese. It all makes sense.

From 2:55 till 08:10 this is absolutely genius music. I heard it by mistake at the end of the masterpiece movie, and it gave me the feeling like Pink Floyd, Zeppelin and Clapton are joining hands and playing together this track.
sounded like Jeff beck as well
I literally just watched the movie, turned the lights out, was about to switch the tv off and suddenly this epic instrumental started. Amazing.
Remembrance by robbie robertson
It's the great Derek Trucks who does sound like Jeff at times...
It reminds me about The Querryman

The Irishman is the best film of 2019, according to the National Board of Review. I couldn't agree more a skillfully made (writing, acting, cinematography, Music,editing, sound), well acted, cohesive and internally consistent story that has the ability to elicit emotion. The Oscar for best actor in a supporting role should go to Al Pacino
@Ahmad Abugullo that's your opinion. But to me Phoniex was fantastic but that's not enough to say the Joker is the best film of the year to me it's overrated
@Ahmad Abugullo and remember the Irishman will win more awards than Joker
Joker is clearly overrated. All the advantages this famous character brings to the table leds to this conclusion : people were hyped way way way before and in their heads, it was already a masterpiece. Although Joaquin Phoenix is very good. My opinion is that the script was too much "sad" for nothing. Always an excuse to bring sorrow. Example : in the beginning, he is hit FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON, just to let the viewers sympathize with him. Bad building.
Oscars must come to this movie , it’s a classic!

It's okay they are in a better place now
I understand that so much. I didnt go see my grandmother like I should have and I regret every time I think of her.
I totally get you. My dad was a harmonica player in his youth, and he came of age in the 60s and 70s, so I feel a special connection to the music and culture of that time.
I was so excited to see Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci together again in a movie! I about cried 😭❤❤
The godfather of the new generation
Fbb Saals It would be if they would make this movie 20 years ago with the same de-ageing technology
Fbb Saals Then YES it would be The Godfather of the new generation
That would go to The Sopranos. Neither match
Edward McPherson agree to disagree
I put this movie on last night to fall asleep to (I've sen it a million times and love it, it's a comfort movie) and I woke up to this song and thought I died tbh
Dude I thought I was the only that calls this a "comfort film" as well. Obvi it's tough and tragic but it's so brilliant it brings me incredible joy. I've also woke up to the credits in a bizarre panic.
@JosephQuillen the pacing is so good and very pre sleep time friendly. There's a lot going on in the beginning to keep your attention but then it slows down and becomes quieter. If Scorsese decided to call it a career after The Irishman it would be his Magnum Opus. still might be imo
I think the song at the end is truly a send off for Martin Scorsese. The western sonority makes it ten times better : western and cowboys made gangsters and gangsters inspired Scorsese. It all makes sense.
That's true, and the fact that it's actually good enough to be worthy of the greatest filmmaker of all time makes me extremely sad.

This movie is underrated. *"Masterpice"*
The crowning roles and film for De Niro, Pesci, Pacino and Scorsese I think. This film was a bittersweet one for me. As an ultimate Scorsese and film lover, I felt this was a classic sendoff for those actors and this director. A fresh taste of nostalgia in a day where things seem so bland.
Thankfully Di Nero and Scorsese are doing another picture together, with Leo as well.

He likes to talk don’t he? Felt like I was talking to general patton..... Lot of people say that Hoffa was really that magnetic! You either loved him or hated him but he knew how to rally a group of tough truckers to singing his name! I’ve still seen tractor trailers with Hoffa stickers on their trucks or trailers
Hoffa earned their respect. He fought in the trenches against Union busters. Took shots to the head from bats, clubs,...etc. He bled with those truckers.

The beginning of Remembrance has some similarities to some of the soundtrack from Joker. Which btw Scorsese had originally planned on directing. Or so they say...
This relays the feeling that none of these guys are around in the present day. Complete chaos for the better part of the 20th century. Now it’s all gone, a mystery, who knows what other crimes they committed. No one.
It's interesting how quick the narrative shifted from the mob killing Kennedy historically, but that narrative is more plausible than others. Even the facts of how quickly Jack Ruby killed Oswald during his arrest we're downplayed.
