Woodturning - The Dragons Fire Ball / 'Unwaffled'
Hey folks, so this is an 'unwaffled' version of the Dragons Fire Ball that I made the other day on my channel. Using colored feathers and epoxy resin to crate this cool funky sphere which I call The Dragons Fire Ball.
Again to explain this version , I've had a number of requests for no music and no waffle i.e no talking no I know my channel is me and I talk and play music and a lot of you like this, which I love so thank you . However there are still a lot of people that don't , so by uploading a much shorter version with no music and no waffle I can hopefully cater for all of you.

Just not the same without hearing from Nick about what is going to be done and his silliness added in. We want the old Nick back. Nice choice for the base. It has the look of flaked slate. It highlights the orb nicely. Another fantastic job.

I love watching Nick’s videos. Him talking and his shenanigans while working on an piece bring me joy… except this video because he’s not saying anything… However with that being said I absolutely still love this video and I have a really big dislike for the individual(s) that said he talks too much..

I definitely prefer the waffle. It’s his personality added to talent that makes him such a hit to watch. Also his tips are so valuable to a resin/turning newbie like me.

The waffled one is called wood turning dragons ball or saurons eyes it's from about two weeks ago you should easily find it on his channel.
I like hearing you talk but these are also very satisfying! I watch a lot of your videos to help me fall asleep because they’re just very relaxing as a whole. The work you do is amazing and I usually fight to stay awake to see the end product!

I don’t often get totally blown away by watching a project come to life, but this one was something special. I never would have guessed feathers in resin could transform like that. If you ever want to revisit this one, I’ll bring the maple syrup, you bring the waffles.

I've always wondered why they don't use rounded molds when they know they're making a round shape.
Round molds are harder to make. You would either have to make two halves of the sphere to put together or hard to see how the contents of sphere distributed in epoxy.
Also, round molds tend to be susceptible to bubble accumulation because of the seam that one must have in a 2 piece mold.
Do you mean globe shape or cylinder? If cylinder, I was thinking the exact same thing.

I couldn't help but think back to the video you did with Heath where you learned how to do the resin ball technique... and how it starts to look like Saturn while sanding it. Good science lesson for the kiddos to explain how Saturn's rings are formed! 🎶Nick Zed the Science.... 🎶 Head? 😂 (Song based off the US kid's show, "Bill Nye the Science Guy," in case that never made it across the pond to you.) This has now become my favorite feather project, with the second being the bowl. Fun fact: a package of white downy feathers can be dyed like easter eggs, if you ever wanted a more customize feather project.
I can't figure out why 1) the shavings are all white; 2) Nick isn't talking to us. 🤔 EDIT: The feather ball thing is GLORIOUS!!! 👏👏👏💋

I love watching the sanding process. Just seeing the clarity improve with each grit is so cool. I’m sure actually doing the sanding is very tedious and repetitive though.

I like the waffling but mostly I just enjoy the projects. You and others inspired me to get back into woodworking as a hobby again, never did any turning but am planning to start. Hopefully I can make it back to the UK in the future for Makers Central. Cheers.
