Digital Peloton News: IQSquare Available in AU!? // New SRM Power Meter // Hammerhead Ki2 v6
Digital Peloton News is back with a brief overview of what's new in cycling tech this week. From power pedals that don't exist (or do they?), to new power pedals that do, Garmin/Tacx calling for outside help before releasing new products, and a few other things I've found interesting this week.

Thanks, Shane for highlighting the fact that IQ2 have not honoured the pledges to their backers. They have not even bothered to update backers for the past 4 months. Many, many, many people are extremely angry with what can only be described as a scam.
Which is why seeing them offered in the retail channel here in AU even more bizarre. I can only assume CCache aren't across the drama, or are just nfg about it and want the sales.
Thanks for highlighting this as a pyramidal scam.. I pledge them 6years ago I think …
I was a backer with IQ2 and like many others, I have never received my pedals. I did recall one of there updates stating they needed to sell some pedals retail to raise funds to cover backer orders. They have a habit of just going quiet for months on end, then just when you put it down to a scam once again, they provide an update. Left a sour taste in the mouth one and makes me unlikely to back a Kickstarter ever again.
Ditto.
Another clip for a future segment: the new Radar+ app from the developer of Windfield. It's cool!! That gear system on the Hammerhead looks awesome 👌
Was one of the original Kickstarter supporters (with 9 friends)… still waiting for our 10 pack!
Ouch. Seeing them ‘in stock’ would be salt in the wound.
@@gplama I have supported ~20 Kickstarter campaigns… I appreciate they are not finished products 😬. Has been sooo long now that the money has been written off a while back… 😶
I received my pair in Canada last summer about six weeks after I ordered them. They work fine. Now that I've heard this story, I feel bad!
@@geoffwebber160 😊
Loved the road ‘art’ at start of video. Nothing says country Australia more.
Now if Zwift could just add a keyboard shortcut to drop ride-on's and a proper scrolling chat window on the main game screen, then I could just un-install the companion (cr)app - that's the only update to the companion app I'm hoping for 😁
I'm that backer no8 you mentioned with the IQSquare pedals, they've really only lived on my turbo not ventured outside with them yet but they are comparable to my neo2 in terms of power and accuracy
The pedal (single sided) they sent over years ago tested well too. Unfortunately what has let them down is EVERYTHING else that people expect from a company.
@@gplama agreed, I gave up all hope of ever seeing these. My wife is a backer on their indiegogo campaign so don't ever expect to see them. They also sent the pedals to the wrong address as we moved a few years ago, even though I updated the details and sent them the details when they mentioned this many moons ago about ensuring details for delivery were up to date 🤦 They'll never rebuild custom trust which ultimately will be their downfall, as they never delivered on their own original goals
Speaking of pedals have you seen Ekoi's new pedals, and by extension shoes required? They might be interesting to talk about.
Amazing that SRM is trying to make a dent in the market with a 1,400€ offering. That's crazy 😳
Over €1700 including VAT ... with inferior accuracy and battery life vs Assiomas (or a whole host of new Chinese stuff made by Magene).
😂😂 Tacx testers led by Lama would be a match made in heaven lol
Great video!
Thanks! I used to do these a few years back as a way to cover a LOT more things in less time. I'll try keep these under 10 minutes to keep them lean.
Star workouts is a great idea!
Waiting for assioma to release a assioma spd with regular q factor
They're coming out with a podless SPD gravel/mtb version. I would imagine that would also mean a refresh for their road pedals is in the pipeline if all goes well. These look clean.
Nice!
Will they? Or is it just you hoping for it? I would love to buy SPD compatible powermeter pedals for a reasonable price (that's why I also backed IQsquare at Kickstarter).
@@aszel i wrote a comment but disappeared, maybe due to a link. so search for the Assioma Pro MX-2, it is already available as pre-series item in the EU, the official release date is spring 2024
Note 10+ in Singapore. Still do not have the workouts.
Does anyone know with absolute certainty that the Ki2 app can co-exist on a Karoo 2 that still has the final Hammerhead firmware release with Di2 support as a native function? I've never updated my unit since the Shimano debacle and I thought I'd try Ki2 on that version if they can play nicely together.
Anyone knows if Karoo project will eventually see 3rd gen or if 2nd is the last generation?
Hi all - how do I update the Ki2 on the Karoo2? Do I need to delete the old version and side load the new one? ...the app on the Karoo2 shows no "update bottom". Thanks
That SRM battery life is pretty bad. About 10 hrs every week if you don't ride, meaning you pretty much have to charge every week. My Assioma's get charged every 3 weeks at 16 hrs per week ride time.
It’s terrible. A total non starter for me. Would drive me crazy
It's normal to have the app version 3.54 in Android and didn't get the workout yet? It was already updated last week and i thought it would get some server shift at some point to turn it on but till now nothing.... Server version appears in the app as 1.354.0 not sure it's the same for people who have that workout screen :)
Android roll-out for this was on hold late last week. I'm surprised it hasn't been unleashed yet.... My guess will be very soon.
@@gplama yeah i saw people talk about how they put it on hold but thought after so much time and now you talking about it in the video it was already back on track but yeah probably it's rolling out slowly :)
Hey gplama what do you make of the zwift news today of layoffs and ceo standdown?
It's interesting.... but not surprising given the current situation with all tech companies.
Have you tried to order the iq2 pedals from the websites or contacted them to see if they actually have any in stock?
IQSquare themselves stopped replying to my emails a few years ago. There's no way I'd part with my own money to get a set of these, even if CCache claim to have stork. I think I said something similar (for the same reasons) four years ago.
i bought a pair from their website in 2021. Haven't heard anything since. How is it legal, that they aren't honoring older sales first, before shipping to new customers?
That's a very good question.
It's not legal. If you bought outside of a crowdfunding campaign and directly from their website and they have not delivered, it's fraud. Unfortunately, you only have so long to fight this with your credit card company and most people wait too long then have no recourse.
Hammerhead/Karoo uses Android for their OS so that should allow us DEVs to create some good unofficial apps for it. It's also probably the reason for the poor battery life on the head units compared Wahoo/Garmin.
Wahoo Elemnts are Linux based too. The Karoo units are effectively mobile phones. I suspect the screen is the main power draw.
@@gplamaYeah good point about that screen probably killing the battery.
I am currently looking for crank-based Shimano 12-speed power meter options that are accurate. Inpeak now offer a dual-sided variant called Twin2 which is really competitively priced. However, I can’t find any reviews of the dual-sided Shimano 12-speed version. I tried to get in touch with them, but unfortunately my question regarding an independent review of their accuracy claims remains unanswered. My current conclusion is that they experience issues like so many other manufacturers. Does anyone here have further insight whether this conclusion is justified?
Replace the whole crankset to the a spider-based powermeter +new crankset, Power2Max NG or NGEco with a RotorAldhu24 or oem RotorAldhu24 cranks and You will have problemfree life with accurate power measuring. Or InfoCrank dual, the others are not recommended (the InPeak is "top" on my not recommended list :D)
@@andraslukoviczki519 Still have a Rotor Aldhu here and was about to go with Sigeyi now.
@@jondashun i am not a big fan of the Sigeyi and others, "somehow" i am trusting only the german quality and support. but i am maximalist and hardcore cyclist so i wanted to buy the best pmeter on the market ( i have 3 P2M NGs now), for me the accuracy and precision with reliability is the primary objective, others have different goals...
SRM still crazy expensive...
can i use the hammerhead to display gears on the kicker shift bike ?
If iq² Would have just done the right thing and sent the items to backers , they Would be in a much better position right now. People would have confidence in their product rather than getting another scathing review from gp. Llama I for one I'm still super excited to receive my set if it ever comes and look forward to giving a glowing review which is what I believe would get this product up and selling. Because it is still At a good price point
My obligatory comment towards Shimano….%&*#“ you. Forcing Hammerhead to cancel that DI2 integration was a phallus shaped move.
Agreed. It only impacted people who are Shimano owners. If SRAM (who own Hammerhead) were to play the same game they should stop the Karoo from connecting to the Shimano power meter.
Well….who in their right mind buys that (I‘ll be very generous here) less than stellar piece of equipment with his own money?@@gplama But yes, I agree. Shimano just screwed their own customers.
Wait....somebody makes a flat pedal power meter!!????
Why are they selling instead of fulfilling? The money from kickstarter is gone, so they now want that from new customers
Why are power meters so crazy expensive, what makes them physically need to be that cost?
Mostly it is the development required to get them to read accurately and be reliable in a form factor that works on a bike. It is a small market so any costs have to be spread over fewer units increasing prices.
Short answer: Physically difficult to construct and validate for the level accuracy needed.
the SRM is the only "crazy expensive", you can buy an Assioma Duo for 600-650eur with better specs :D or spider basedp powermeters with similar price. Btw the real "crazy expensive" things in bike industry is the wheelsets for 2000-3000-4000 eur :D and the Ceramicsspeed fancy gimmicks...
