  • The biggest issue with this is that Apple is way less forgiving of third party products than the likes of Facebook. When I first got my Quest 2 I felt exactly the same regarding discomfort - but having upgraded to a highly-recommended third party strap, I can comfortably go 8 hours or more with it strapped to my face. Any time I'm working from home, I just throw on my Quest and I'm sitting in a ship in orbit surrounded by 4 floating screens - one of which is my code. Sure I need my laptop still sat on my lap to do so, but working in a multi-monitor environment with the only wires being the one plugged into my laptop for power (because gaming laptops suck back battery like nothing else) - it really does do the thing you described where you're just "working in another world".

You’re talking about satellites traveling 15k+ mph attempting to align a hairpin laser on a moving target traveling 500+ mph in either the same direction or the opposite direction without skipping a beat. • I wonder about that. The headset doesn't seem to be much heavier than the index i own. At first i did feel a little uncomfortable when wearing it over 3 hours straight, but a month later i was wearing it 6 hours no issues on weekends. In the end, you can't please everyone, some people will be more succesptible to this type of things, like typing without watching the keyboard, that's something i mastered 15 yeras ago and it takes a little bit of rewiring anytime i get a new keyboard. So i don't see how an almost touchpad like keyboard is an issue unless you've developed tics like wanting to hear the keys or feel them being pressed rather than just feel the taps. The claustrophobic feeling is also a tic that can be overcome, which is what leads you to feel progressively irritated until you have to take a break.

  • Hey man, great video. I've seen a significant number of people on twitter originally say they had discomfort but went back to try on a different sized light seal, and that that fixed things for them straight away. Some people will also have different experiences to others regardless too. But maybe worth trying a different seal given you're within the 14 day return period? Another suggestion I've seen is to use the solo band but instead of having the band straight back in line with the actual headset, instead tilt it to a 45 degree angle so that it's resting further up the back of your head. Keen to see if this improves things.

  • Comfort is certainly the main drawback with this and all VR headsets. That being said I can use the VP for 2-3hrs without issue now. There's at least two things that play a role here, one is to take 5-10mins break every 60-90 minutes - thats valid for regular computer work aswell, and second is that you just get used to it eventually. When you put a VR headset on for the first time there's muscles that are just not used to that strain and it can get painful quickly, it gets better after semi regular use ; it took a few months playing with the Quest3 a few times a week for me. In my experience thats valid for motion sickness - I can actually use the vomit inducing regular FPS movement in VR now - and strain on your head. That being said the default headband with this - and the Quest3 - are Hellraiser levels of pain, I just cant fathom why they think its ok. They are painful after 5-15mins of use if not immediately for most ppl and they are super easy to put in a way that just hurts badly. The headband with a strap at the top is mandatory imo and to me they are fumbling here when they dont make that the default option, the current default bands discourage ppl from using it after trying it for a bit.

  • I just used mine for the first time on a flight and it was amazingly comfortable. A few observations. 1. Put it on at your seat don’t walk in with it 2. Doesn’t work well while taxing; very bumpy image and will cause nausea 3. Close your window as this affects tracking even in travel mode 4. They asked me to take off during take off and landing for safety. They treat it like a large electronic device 5. Use partial environments so you can see when flight attendant is near 6. Use AirPods/ear buds and be ready to switch the transparent mode when flight attendant is servicing 7. Bring 30w charger or battery to recharge Following these guidelines made the experience very very comfortable and I loved the huge screen and especially enjoyed the environments. I didn’t have to lower my hear to watch anything. When it was time to sleep, I already had my mask on. Very good use case.

  • Honestly my issue with VR (apart from the fact that your milage is going to vary depending on how your vision is) is the fact that headsets seem needlessly clunky. Get a headset to about half the width of what it is right now, and I'd probably be more invested in it.

  • You need to get fitted for a different light seal. The light seal that I was measured for from the face scan was totally wrong, and uncomfortable. Went to an Apple Store to try many different light seals until I found one that was the most comfortable. It's also important to have the right band size too. I was also measured for M via the face scan and that was wrong too. I swapped to a S for both and now it's the most comfortable. Might be tricky since you're in Europe, but it should be released there soon.

    @availabledark@availabledark2 ай бұрын
  • So it seems that face structure greatly influences the comfort level. I wear the AVP a minimum of 8 hours a day with minimal discomfort. I discussing the comfort level with other AVP owners, it seems that if you can sort of “hang” the AVP off your brow, as opposed to having it pressed against your brow and cheeks, the comfort level is greatly increased. Problem is that requires you have a certain facial structure that makes this possible.
