Making a Home Theater In a Box

Today in the shop we are making a custom case to house our new projector, the Cosmos Max, from Nebula.
After working through the design and measurements with Devon, I cut and assembled the case from half inch plywood. I use a pneumatic finish nailer and wood glue to make all of my connections. The box is designed in two parts. The bottom has two shelves. The bottom holds the foldable screen, remote, and other items that you can store in the removable basket. The top shelf holds the projector power adapter, the surge protector, and the modified retractable extension cord reel. The Cosmos Max sits on top of those two shelves, secured by a mounted tripod head, giving it full range of motion.
The top slides down over the bottom completely and is latched to the base. Four legs were added to the bottom to give it a bit more height and to raise it up off the ground, in the event of an outdoor screening. I added the remaining hardware, and Devon took it back to his place to add some fun movie reel designs and paint it.
We finished the video with a movie night to test it out. We had a great time and are very happy with the "Theater in a Box" and love the Cosmos Max.
A huge thanks goes to Nebula, who was super generous in sending us the 4K Cosmos Max. This is a really nice projector, and so easy to set up and use. If you are interested in getting a Cosmos Max in 4K or 1080p of your own, follow the links and deal codes below.

  • There is nothing better than having quality time with the whole family watching home movies. We still have the old reel to reel projector from grandparents, watching black & white movies. It always create a special kind of atmosphere, a feel of content & love. Cheers mate. A fan from C.I.

  • Cool. I wonder how many years of digital cinema it will take till someone comes up with a new symbol just half as iconic as the good old film-reel.

  • Damn do I like this channel but 16 hundo? I was hoping for 5-7 hundred but I was totally wrong. That’s a steep grade bossman. Enjoy it because I ain’t gonna see that thing in person. They should really put your box in for free now I will say that there is something in the name because I will walk out spiders, centipedes, shield bugs, anything outside and my wife demands death and destruction. Good on you for stepping over the things that can be stepped upon
