My little sister’s first word wasn’t mama or dada! When I was playing in my room when I was 6! She came in my room and stared at me and said “sissy!” I’ll never forget that day! 🥹🥹🥹

Your story touched me deeply. I can't imagine how emotional it must have been to see those children speak for the first time, especially knowing your own brothers have autism. It's truly inspiring to hear they're doing well in their twenties. Thank you for sharing your story 🥰

Both my sons have autism. The oldest is like me(diagnosed last year at 54) and talked in small sentences at 11 months( we still haven't shut up). The youngest who talked at the later end of normal milestones never said mom or dad. He said gandad to my late father.

When i was reuniting with my dad, a Navy Senior Chief, i said my first word. "Daddy!" Almost like i recognized him instantly.

I have a nephew whos autistic and didnt say his first word until he was well past his toddler years, so to see that precious 4 year old say Mama, it brings a tear to my eye.

My nephew didn't see his mommy (my sister). When he woke up and only saw his father and my brother and he just started crying and nobody knew why . When my sister came into the room he started screaming mama mama and everybody started screaming cause it was his first word.

Apparently, from what my mom says, I didn’t really speak my first word until I was 5 years old since I had trouble speaking (I have been tested to see if I was autistic twice in my life and all they said was that I wasn’t really autistic but that I shared symptoms (I have ADHD and apparently from what I can tell, both ADHD and Autism share some of the same symptoms)). From what my parents told me, my first word was either “dad” or “dog”. With that in mind, seeing the joy on the parents’ faces when their autistic kids say their first words is incredibly heartwarming!😊

My grandma told me when my dad was a baby, when she'd asked if he could say Mama he'd reply, "No dada". I was nicer with my own refusal to say mama. I just grinned and would say dada when prompted by my father....Can't say the same for my own kiddo. I was Dada up until they were two... and Mama was their first word!
Love the family tradition! It's so interesting how "dada" seems to be a popular first word, even for your dad. Maybe it's easier to pronounce?🤗

This was so darn happy I am crying I think it’s the piano because all these kids were either born into a beautiful child or an autistic disabled young boy, like me. It’s so beautiful how they are so amazing. Keep it up little ones.😊

my niece's first word was hilarious our very sweet cat was walking by and she grabbed its tail and pulled the cat (named windy) towards her and the minute the cat started purring in her lap she shouted "Kitty" in the sweetest voice with the biggest smile we all laughed because my brother and sister in law had a bet going to see if she would say mama or daddy first
And the bet between your brother and sister-in-law adds a fun layer to the story. Even though it wasn't "mama" or "dada," "Kitty" is just as perfect for that moment 🥰

I didn't have my first words as a baby/toddler since I was non-verbal since I was autistic, even when I was a kid I was still "mute" and my only way of communicating was making scribbles to express how I felt. I don't know what my first words were or when I first spoke. But I can only imagine how happy my mom was when I spoke for the first time. My mom celebrated any milestone I had since a bunch of doctors said I couldn't do anything but very milestone proved them wrong, its honestly crazy thinking I was non-verbal for the first few years of my life since i never remember being non-verbal though it might because of my poor memory.
While my experience wasn't the same, I can relate to the challenges of overcoming limitations. You're an inspiration🥰

This is so sweet and made me cry remembering my daughter's first word was Mama. Most babies say dada first. I heard the smarter one's say mama first. Well in my case it was true. So to all the mama first out there good luck my daughter had me on my toes for a very long time. But 24 years later the love well you will fine out.

I will continuously be shocked about the amount of Autism in children today. The numbers are on the rise. Why though? There weren't as many cases at all when I was growing up. Still very sweet angels❤ it's just sad for the parent that has to raise a nonverbal child, it must be really difficult. kudos
Could be that only extreme cases were caught back in the day, while today we noticed more subtle signs and so there’s a lot of high-functioning autistic people around
