  • Use those extra long golf tees and put in the end. Put a little wd - 40 on the tee for a release agent and stick it in and it will keep channel open through the dried up stuff . This works for a while but not for ever. Also works well with liquid nail, just dont forget the release agent wd -40. I like this video method as well. Will try it !!

  • Once one has used some silicon from the tube, whether the large or the small, remove the spout and make a small indentation in the neck of the tube, with a pencil. Then smear a dollop of petroleum jelly into the indentation. This makes a perfect seal and I have experience the silicon remains usable for many weeks/months.

Neat trick to make it gun-able again. Wish all tubes had the removable nozzle which greatly extends the open time life of a tube.

  • I just tried this and it works! 😮 cut the last few inches off a recently emptied tube and popped out the plunger (wouldn’t have worked if the tube was empty for very long). Figured out it helps to use the back end and plunger of the empty tube as a form to stretch the tip over, before putting it down over the full one. Also, you don’t need tape of it’s something like silicone. The residue will glue the two halves together.

  • After years as an HVAC contractor, I learned how to prevent silicone from curing in the nozzle. Take a few inches of duct tape and spiral it around the nozzle to make it a few inches longer. Then squeeze the caulk into the extended tube and pinch it shut when it nears the end. How this works. The ascetic acid in the caulk reacts with oxygen to begin the cure process. By squeezing the caulk that has been exposed to air into the tape, it cures there but not back into the nozzle. This won't work forever, oxygen can get through the tape but it does let you reuse a tube once opened.

I have been keeping all my used caulk tubes from drying out by using self adhesive foil tape to seal both ends. It works!! This tape from any hardware store seals joints on heating and cooling ducts. @DesignMakeFix@DesignMakeFix11 ай бұрын
  • After use, the nozzle of the silicone tube does not need any kind of separate plug. Instead, I hold the gun in front of me with the nozzle towards the floor and squeeze the trigger very little until I get a few centimeters of silicone out and it hangs straight down towards the floor the whole time. At the rear end of the gun, the piston rod curves into a hook, so I leave the whole gun hanging from some convenient place with this hook, and the piece of silicone hanging down from the nozzle dries into a plug. After it dries, maybe I'll move the pistol somewhere for storage. This way I have a plug that fits the nozzle perfectly, which prevents it from drying out deeper. When I need silicone, this little disposable plug is easy to remove and get to work.

  • Get one of the red rubber tips for a few cents and you don't have to worry about this. Caulking shouldn't solidify in the tube unless you're storing it improperly or the tube is damaged.

    @Ryan-ff2db@Ryan-ff2db7 ай бұрын
    • It all depends on the caulking and the environment. You will have a hard time keeping urethane caulk with a rubber tip anyplace humid. Maybe for a week or two. But sure, acrylic caulk very forgiving.

  • Another tip. At the open end nozzle tip, take cellophane wrap, a few square inches and tie it at the nozzle with a rubber band. Then squirt a small amount into the cellophane to make a small bubble. Since it is not exposed to air, it will stay soft till your next use. Just discard the amount in the cellophane.

    @praful6890@praful689010 ай бұрын
    • I just put the cellophane over the tube end, then screw the nozzle on to seal it. Lasts for months!

  • Another tip: store the tubes inside an airtight bag together with a good amount of desiccant, like silica gel packets (that aren't yet saturated, obviously). Silicone kit cures due to contact with humidity, so storing it inside a dry environment will make it harden much more slowly. Same goes for cyanoacrylate glue.

    • Silicone does not cure due to contact with humidity. It cures due to the solvent evaporating, technically a more humid environment will slow down silicone curing. Sealing the tube in an airtight container or simply sealing the cap means there is no air for the solvent to evaporate in to.

Maybe you were failing to fill the nozzle completely prior to capping/plugging the nozzle. Nevertheless, the caulk within the tube hardens far slower than within the nozzle. The plunger should be maximally inserted to ensure that no air exists *behind* or in *front* of any remaining caulk located within the tube body...

  • From my own understanding, you need to invest wisely, if you need the good things of life. so far i've made over $470k in raw profits from just q4 of the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it you have the right strategy. mutual funds takes a while but investing wisely is the key for short term. Most of us pay more attention to the easy position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

  • Good tips for storing. However, with any old silicone or mastic tubes, I just put a long 1/4'' drill into it, to see if there is anything usable. Keep the drill on while drilling into the tube -while squeezing the tube applicator. If nothing appears, bin the tube and try another.

    @johnsomerset1510@johnsomerset151013 күн бұрын
  • Another way to clear blocked nozzles, remove from the tube, then use your air compressor on the pointy end, just remember to have it pointed into a bin as it can come out with a bit of a bang.
