Learn to keep your rod tip up and not straight out. Might try setting the hook also, not just reeling in

Yeah for bass/monofilament line maybe but flounder hit from the bottom and its like pulling a trash can lid through the water. It feels like a snag when they hit and i was bumping a jig over trees and rocks on the bottom so the angle of my rod needs to be low to the water to feel that and get out past the vegetation at the edge. With braided line it's easy to set hook into a snag that wont let loose so I'm hesitant until i feel a second hit. Again, braided line, so the fish practically sets itself because there is no stretching of the line.
