I see many comments about how Luka is under rated or even hated, but all I remember is when he was injured for about 4 months and RM play suffered without him. First match after he entered as substitute and got standing ovation by Santiago. Imagine 80 000 people standing and applauding you.

Modric is a genius. He was absolutely mesmerizing in his prime (around 2018), but he has not dropped below say 75% of his prime for the past 7-8 years or maybe more. That's so important for a team: consistency. He's 35 now and he's not allowing Fede Valverde to become a regular starter. Incredible. He still runs a lot, presses the opposition like crazy, puts in so much defensive work, makes runs for counters, and when he has the ball, you feel so safe. He has managed to maintain his fitness and reflexes at this age, we know about the other midfielders (who are supposedly better than Luka) and where they were at this age, and how they fared after they were past their prime. Some people just don't understand the concept of consistency, especially after a player has retired. They only remember the prime version of the player and use that to make comparisons.

@HyperGamer 10 our defence was ridiculous against chelsea without ramos in first leg and a Ramos that came from an injury in the 2nd, Zidane sometimes even started valverde over modric because he was in great form modric is an exceptional player but real has other great mids casemiro kroos and valverde but our defence would never be the same without ramos he made pepe better varane better he has been the best player this decade and has carried us in so many games even in attack

Among foreigners, Messi and Cristiano are more famous in Brazil. But the idol of that 9-year-old boy is Modric. Modric crossed all borders! My last football idol was Ronaldo Fenômeno. In this current generation, my idol is Modric. It may seem little. But this is gigantic! Modric is fantastic! An incredible player and a wonderful person. Certainly the best example for children around the world. It's a huge privilege for you Croats to have someone like him. The man defends, creates, scores, assist etc. I've watched his game a week ago against Bilbao and he still is a hell of a player. He gave Croatia a wc final. Sure Xavi and Iniesta and pirlo won it. But do you really want to compare the squads they had, and the squad Luka had?

Only Yaya Toure belongs in this catergory that they are best box to box players but their playmaking is so good that they are as good as any top playmakers. However, tactically Modric is even next level always providing extra man in defense whenever needed and his off the ball movement in midfield is insane.

When you look at all the trophies he won playing a pivotal role for Real Madrid in these past 10 years, (4 CL titles, 2 La Ligas etc.) you come to a simple conclusion that Modric is right next to Zinedine Zidane as one of the greatest midfield maestros who played for Real Madrid in the club's entire history ! He was what I like to call Box to box playmaker. Only Yaya Toure belongs in this catergory that they are best box to box players but their playmaking is so good that they are as good as any top playmakers. However, tactically Modric is even next level always providing extra man in defense whenever needed and his off the ball movement in midfield is insane.

Modric is a genius. He was absolutely mesmerizing in his prime (around 2018), but he has not dropped below say 75% of his prime for the past 7-8 years or maybe more. That's so important for a team: consistency. He's 35 now and he's not allowing Fede Valverde to become a regular starter. Incredible. He still runs a lot, presses the opposition like crazy, puts in so much defensive work, makes runs for counters, and when he has the ball, you feel so safe. He has managed to maintain his fitness and reflexes at this age, we know about the other midfielders (who are supposedly better than Luka) and where they were at this age, and how they fared after they were past their prime. Some people just don't understand the concept of consistency, especially after a player has retired. They only remember the prime version of the player and use that to make comparisons.

He was what I like to call Box to box playmaker. Only Yaya Toure belongs in this catergory that they are best box to box players but their playmaking is so good that they are as good as any top playmakers. However, tactically Modric is even next level always providing extra man in defense whenever needed and his off the ball movement in midfield is insane.
Luka, Yaya and prime Zidane come to mind for me.
