Sirtaki or syrtaki (Greek: συρτάκι) is a popular dance of Greek origin, choreographed by Giorgos Provias for the 1964 film Zorba the Greek. It is not a traditional Greek folkdance, but a mixture of the slow and fast versions of the hasapiko dance. The dance, and the accompanying music by Míkis Theodorakis, are also called Zorbá's dance, Zorbas, or "the dance of Zorba".

  • I used to sing this to my husband, and he always hugged me, laughing. I had it played at his funeral, but I had no laughing eyes or hugs anymore.   • This was Theodorakis' great accomplishment to make everyone in the World to feel like a Greek for 3 min at least...to take a glimpse of what it feels like to be under the everlasting Greek Sun and above the Eternal Blue waters of the Aegean🇬🇷🌞🌊 Great adaption by Andre Rieu It’s pretty amazing to me as a Greek 🇬🇷to watch people enjoying this like Greeks.

  • Great music by great composer who unfortunately passed away yesterday. May his soul rest in peace. I read an article about him on BBC site in Russian. They wrote that famous Sirtaki dance was based on Greek dance of warriors called Hasapiko. I think it's a mistake because Hasapiko is famous dance of Greek butchers from Ottoman time Constantinople. Kasap in Turkish means butcher .

  • My great appreciation to art and music of the European people even if I'm an Asian. My auntie told me that our great grandmother was half Greek and so I really appreciate the Greek dance art & culture. The waltz reminds me of the great waltz composer Johann Strauss it made me sobbed. What a great festival you've done Sir Andre Rieu. Thank you for reviving the Strauss party! God bless you all out there.

  • C'est ma musique préférée depuis que je suis toute petite (environ 6 mois) et même maintenant à 50 ans je l'écoute encore régulièrement. Petite je dansais dessus dans mon parc en me trémoussant. Jeune j'ai "essayer" de danser le sirtaki. Maintenant, c'est mon coeur et mes souvenirs qui dansent pour moi, j'ai plus les jambes pour bouger comme ça

  • Theodorakis was specially Blessed when composed this music. Sirtaki is much more than an instrumental music. It's a musical masterpiece that translates the genuine Greek lifestyle. I believe it', and always will be, the best translation of the usual Greek People happiness. Sirtaki also, was a magic conspiration though Anthony Quinn's performance in cinema. I can say the same about Andre Rieu. When people listen to the first Sirtaki chords playing, it begins an uncontrollable wish to dance. Theodorakis got eternity much more before than he passed way. He always will be remembered in all the World by his masterpiece. Greek party is not a party without Sirtaki. I'm not a Greek descendant, and my heart beats so strong. I can imagine this feeling into the Greek hearts. Certainly, Heaven was in party when received Theodorakis' soul.
