thumbnail looks epic
It comes from the icon design of the game Monster Hunter. EDIT: After going through the comments, I now believe the thumbnail art is actually base off the hieroglyphs of some of the pokemon in Legends Arceus.

I want these runes for all 1000+ Pokemon. If that's even possible...

I absolutely still LOVE Metagross’ introduction in gen 3 because it was so well hidden. You get to Steven the first time you play, you take his team down, only for him to throw this Massive beast out you have NEVER encountered in your journey. You don’t know what it is or what it does because there’s no record of beldum prior. Only for the beldum to be gifted to you. I think it was the most well done intro for a pseudo in the series, hands down.
@Peters6221 I mean the surprise factor still exists, many people didn't knew how Finizen evolved into Palafin even after the games were released and even the leakers were having a tough time to figure how it evolved for some days we also fight a Totem Kommo-o in Alola and it was also a surprise as that was the first time we encounter it in our first playthrough
I didn't even know that... I didn't play the original gen 3 (my first game was Pokemon X) and the wow factor is gone in ORAS. I'm pretty sure you can catch Beldum in the wild prior the post game (I haven't checked though).
@Peters6221 Magazines did the same thing, boomer
I agree. I remember being so shocked when I saw Metagross for the first time battling Steven!
@@lasercraft32 It was an event Pokemon available when the games released, not sure about catching it.
Goodra's excuse for being a weird lil guy is that its based on medieval art of knights fighting snails like theyre powerful beasts

7:05 it buffs rock types in gen 4 but it only became a temporary effect in gen 6. All of the weathers being permanent is why gen 5 ou is known for its “weather wars”
Also physical special split is gen 4, not gen 5.
Manual weather has always been temporary, it's just weather set by abilities that was permanent prior to gen 6.
Gen 5 was good. Maybe the second best to ADV OU.
It was absolutely nuts. It arguably was the whole reason Excadrill got banned since it was already speedy sweeper, then given an ability for free speed or damage boost in a sandstorm
Ngl the amount of checkable and blatent mistakes in this vid makes me think half the script was written by chatgpt or something
For me, the Gabite mid evolution dilemma feels more like that awkward puberty stage between the cute kid Gible and the fully grown good looking adult Garchomp.
Many starter mid-evolutions, like Drizzile, Charmeleon, and Dartrix, feel similarly like awkward teen stages (just my own humble opinion). It's hard to find a good-looking starter mid-evolution: those that stand out to me are Marshtomp, Monferno, Grovyle, Floragato, Braixen, Frogadier.
@@sandradermark8463 Gabite, Wartortle, Zweilous, and Grotle are the only ones I like, the rest I agree look like awkward teenager stages
@@sandradermark8463 I totally agree on Marshtomp, If you look at it's sprite on OR/AS, it literally has the awkward teenager aura to it, like, HOW TF did that cute smol boi turned into this... thing? (I don't hate Marshtomp, the Mudkip line is one of my favorite starter line)
Growing up I always thought aggron was a pseudo legend
honestly that's what i told myself during my teen years - "it's okay, i'm a mediocre charmeleon right now, but eventually i'll be a badass charizard!" and thank god i was right lmao
There's actually a bit more to Tyranitar being given Sand Stream as an ability in Gen 3. Back then, there were only two other Pokémon that had weather-setting abilities, the box legendaries Groudon and Kyogre. The box legendaries made it a point to show that weather-setting abilities are supposed to be busted even in the lore, with their power being the main focus of the Hoenn games' story. Gen 3 also had an unusual distinction of being the only generation cut off from the previous generations, with no natural way to transfer up from Gen 2. As a result, the Johto Pokémon have their own ways to be found in Gen 3 games, from getting a Johto starter from completing the Hoenn pokedex to Hoenn's expanded Safari Zone to Kanto's Sevii Islands. But there was another way, that being the Gamecube games, Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, which built its encounters around the fact that it's one of the few ways to get Johto Pokémon in Gen 3. And what was the final boss's ace of Colosseum? A Shadow (and therefore catchable) Tyranitar, displaying its absolute might by showing off that it can also set weather just like Hoenn's box legendaries. Back when weather setting abilities were scarce, giving Tyranitar Sand Stream was Game Freak's way of saying that Tyranitar is on the same level as Groudon and Kyogre.
Man I miss Colosseum
Thanks for the info! That’s really cool
@@johndoe-vr3xtI miss back when that type of game could feasibly exist.

The thumbnail is absolutely legendary. It captures the energy of what I like. So much about pseudo legendary. They’re still more grounded but they’re cool elusive. They feel closer to some thing. I feel like I see in the jungle like a panther. An Apex predator without absolutely being a deity of some sort
Like the fact that they can go toe to toe with some of the lower centric, actual legendary’s stat wise
None of Pokemon is deity.

Okay but seriously a Pokemon line that increases in dimensions as it evolves is a REALLY novel idea. First stage could be an infinitely flat creature, middle stage is normal and kinda boring, while final stage looks almost eldritch because we can't really conceive its true form, being a higher-dimensional being.
That would be amazing
Now i'm remembering a secret/optional boss of one Final Fantasy game that looks like a giant sphere of chaos, because it's an other-dimentional being that has so many dimensions that we are unable to comprehend how it actually looks like (i thinks it's name was "Osma" or something like that)
but the lore would be op, you can't even see it, but it can touch you. Like Big Chill, it can touch your organs directly.
The 1st stage could be animated like a flip-book, with the same, slightly jittery, animation. And the 3rd could be a really complicated optical illusion
or looks like the thing we like a lot, like Contumelia in Ben 10 Omniverse
Man, your designs and presentation are all so cool, but I think not enough people appreciate the fantastic music. It's such a treat to hear the little touches in the background
You’re 💯 right that’s awesome !
I just hope gamefreak doesn't shut this down
I'm not gonna lie I love pretty much everything about a classic nort video but I'm not the biggest fan of the music. It's cool to have your own brand but it sounds too simple oftentimes :/
The Fortnite reference caught me by surprise
Agreed. I wish he put the links to each soundtrack in the description. I want to find that remix to Cynthia's battle theme.
WHY IS GOODRA JUST A DRAGON. ITS LITERALLY DRIPPING WITH AN UNKNOWN SUBSTANCE. IT HAS GOO IN THE NAME. IT IS MORE POISONOUS IN DEISGN THEN MOST POISON POKÉMON.
They could have easily made it a water & poison type. Goodra don't look a lot like a dragon, maybe it's just me...
WHAT
@@cevatkokbudak6414 Goodra looks more like a slug/snail than a dragon to me. I am of the opinion that they should make more non dragon pseudo legendaries and they missed an incredible opportunity with Goodra.
I love the artstyle of all the pokemon in this video. Absolutely sick minimalist design and silhouettes!
I thought it was all commissioned art until the part where he said he drew it all. I was like bro what was your budget for this video how can you even afford to have the amount of art that you do?? I love it all honestly. Great art and great video
I still find it hilarious how Beldum, Gible and Jangmo-o reach their final stages before Deino and Dreepy even reach their second stages. It’s interesting how some pseudos are viable for a playthrough before reaching their final forms (you can get Gible pretty early in Gen 4 and he’ll be viable for your entire playthrough) but others are virtually useless until the end or post game when they reach their final forms. Especially cruel for Deino and Dreepy for their ability and move pool respectively 😢
Thinking about it, you're actually correct about gible. It's a bit of a pain getting it to gabite, but once you have it then it's definitely gonna pull it's weight
Depends on the game, gen 9 you can get several/most of the psuedos early on if you try hard enough to get to where they live. imo Gabite, Metang, and Dragonair are all pretty good as early-game (in games where you can get them) second stage evos. Definitely sucks tho that Droopy and Deino don't evolve until as late as most final/third stage evolution, yeah, since their second stages are pretty decent too. At least Larvitar, Gible, and Bagon are good as first-stage for way early game.
That's what always made me sad all the way back in Gen 2 with Tyranitar. You literally couldn't get larvitar until after not just the elite four, but also all 16 gyms, only available just before the actual last battle of the game.
Dragapult in gen 8 is an absolute pain. Had one on my main team because I really wanted it (goodra was its substitute for the time). -Have to unlock water-bike which is like post 7th gym -Is only found in one tiny area in the wild area -Drakloak is visible encounter but can't be caught yet because of level difference (thanks gamefreak) -wild Dreepy in the grass is literally 1% chance but you can only catch that right now i ended up catching just one and breeding for a beneficial nature and i just wanted one ASAP
@@fight_and_die1573 Yeah best way is to trade early with someone else.
I believe Tyranitar was created specifically to counter just not the Psychic type, but all of “The Big Three” in gen 1. It is immune to and super-effective against Psychic, resists Normal and is super-effective against Ice (although Ice was primarily busted due to Freeze, insane Blizzard and as coverage)
Well, do you know which typing can do all of those things at once? Steel/dark. I understand what you're saying, but if that was the whole truth, then ttar wouldve been steel dark (to showcase the new types and actually resist ice, since rock is neutral to it)
And then GF decided to buff Snorlax in GS
I don't think it's that deep, I'm sure they just wanted to make a big bad pseudo that showcases one of the new types, much like how the Dragonite line were special in Gen 1 for pretty much being the game's only Dragon-types at the time.
@@thundergamespt99thats why they made Scizor, why pull everything on just one mon?
Nah, the big 3 is a much newer concept than the release of gen 2, especially since battling was only possible on physical cartridges as there were no simulators
The Metagross & Garchomp & Dragapult lines are probably the three with the best second-stage evolutions out of the psuedos.
What about Dragonite? Dragonair is the type of Pokémon that could be it’s own separate mon and I’d gladly run it on my team
I would argue that Metagross’s Meteor Mash was also a signature move
think a big reason for that is that is the lack of good steel moves in general until gen 4, you had like 3 that were generally available ones, metal claw, steel wing, iron tail, and most of them are pretty mid so giving a strong steel move to the new strong steel pokemon makes it more attractive. imagine it having to rely on metal claw for stab oof
Technically not, because next to Metagross and Metang, Cleafairy also gained Meteor Mash in Gen 3.
Didn’t Jirachi as well?
@@jakecarlson3709 Suprisingly enough, Jirachi only got acces to the Move in Gen 8.
@@Robin93k Jirachi's Doom Desire tho.
Kommo-o’s introduction was irrevocably affected by being introduced in the same Gen as Mimikyu, and that’s without even getting into the situation of poor Drampa.
immediately overshadowed by Cyclizar. Drampa didn't even get a signature move.
@@TornaitSuperBird when they make a Fairy-Type fully immune to both STABs of a Legendary, it’s funny, when they do the same to a mon that isn’t even a Pseudolegendary, it’s just kinda sad.
Also the tapus all sort of wreck it!
@@TornaitSuperBird immediately?
@@arlen7726 Well luckily for Kommo-o, Mimikyu wasn't seen much in high level play due to the abundance of steel types it was unable to take on, while Kommo-o thrived thanks to its insanely overpowered Z move.

I find their designs "INTENTIONAL" for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Dragonite having one point on its head for being the first pseudo, tyranitar having 2 holes on the left or right side of its body for being the second, salamence has 3 spikes on the right and left side of its head for being the third, metagross having four legs being fourth, garchomp has a star on its forehead which has 5 points and being the fifth pseudo, hydreigon has six wings on its back being the 6th, if you count goodras slime dripping things it counts to seven for being the 7th, kommo-o has 4 plates on both side of its arms making it all eight so the 8th, if you count all the triangle shapes on its head and on its chest it has 9 triangles total (Dreepy is a very different pokemon) so 9th and baxcalibur having 10 pieces of hexagon plates on its belly to the tail making it the 10th pseudo. I just noticed this right now it's probably not Canon but just a fun little detail that I've seen to be quite "INTENTIONAL"
Definitely reaching, you can always count the whatever on anything and make connections
Hmm okay
Calling it right now: If Stema ends up having something akin to a legendary quartet, they're gonna be based on either the four branches of STEM or the four fundamental forces.

What you said about different Pokemon being for different people is 100% correct. That is what Pokemon is all about. There is not one Pokemon I hate/ dislike but there are hundreds I love.
For many of them, like Dratini it’s also connected with the anime. In it, Dratini is said to have such a similar skin tone with water, and also being very careful so for long times people thought it was a mythical/legendary Pokemon!
I love the way you present your videos: the little hieroglyphs representing each pseudo are top tier.
Its a monster hunter reference! ^-^
@@zealotoftheorchard9853 exactly what I was thinking, and I love it
To explain salamance, it is based on the mythical fire salamander creature. People burned logs and a salamanders popped out to escape, mistaking it as "birth" by fire.
Was that not the inspiration for Charmander though? Salamence has nothing to do with fire
@@furthings Firstly, salamance is based on both salamanders, real version with it's front fins on face and mythical version with it being based on a mythical creature which breaths fire and both versions have a lizard-like body. As for charmander, plenty of pokemon are based on plenty of the same materials, real or myth, like phoenixis, golems, foxes, spiders, even djinns. Charmander is just more fiery salamander than salamance but wouldn't say it has nothing to do with fire, it breaths fire after all.
The art in these videos are absolutely amazing
This is the first thing I've come across on this channel, and I've gotta say it did a pretty good job on selling the rest of it to me. Comprehensive breakdown of the trope used, interesting fakemon concept and design, a surprise math lesson, and all with very nice styles used at different points and a calm, almost soothing tone. I earnestly look forward to going through your video backlog and seeing more!
I really like the almost Monster Hunter style art you did for the pseudo legendary icons
Its also PLA mural based
Dragonite had the highest evolution by level at 55. Then gen 5 rolled around and that was claimed by Hydregion, who evolves at level 65!

My favorite thing about pseudo legendaries is their three stage evolution. The excitement I felt watching one evolve has been rarely matched in Pokémon.
Wow I’ve been watching a few of your videos and I love both your art styles, the outline less, almost simplistic cuter one is amazing, and the blocky and cubic one you use for the thumbnail is just as cool, it must take so much effort to make these videos.
Great to see another hisuian sliggoo appreciator. It’s easily my favorite pseudo-legendary of the bunch. Maybe it’s the color scheme, it’s comedically oversized shell, or my undying love for gastropods, but I love the little skrunklo. (Also Drachoron looks sick as hell)
Whats up my sliggas!
@@maninhu9837😭😭
Something that used to be true is that all Pseudo legendaries had an immunity of some kind. Goodra was to the first to deviate from it being immunity coming from typing, but sap sipper gave it a grass immunity. Kommo-o made the stretch further, but its abilities all gave it immunity to certain kinds of moves (explosive, sound, and powder.) Baxcalibur is the first to truly break this, but it at least has an ability to strongly discourage, or take advantage of fire moves.
Baxcalibur is immune to burns, and as a result, also to the move will-o-wisp
@@henriquepacheco7473 Im pretty sure you can still be burned, you just get a 1.5x attack boost when W'o'W is used on you
@@jaxastro3072 The ability has two parts, the first is that Baxcalibur is immune to burns and the second is that you get an attack boost when hit by fire moves. He is not, however, immune to fire moves, so that's probably the cause of confusion. Edit: being literally immune to a single move still makes it by far the most tenuous case of "is immune to some kind of move" within all pseudo-legends, to be fair.
this is my first video of yours. I have to say im very impressed with both your breakdown, and your original monster collector concept! looking forward to your future videos!
This is really well made! Also the art is beautiful. You deserve many more subscribers.
Well apparently this was good enough for me to click on it without realizing it was a premiere set for the future
What an informative video on pseudo-legendaries. My 3 favorites has to be Metagross, Hydreigon, and Dragapult. As for your own pseudo, I love its design and concept. Basing it off of different dimensions like 2d to 4d is a unique idea. I don't hear 4d being brought up very often, so I am curious about it. Drachoron looks amazing as well. It takes creative thinking to display what a Pokemon representing 4d would look like. Amazing work as always.
I LOVE pseudo-legendaries. Especially Gen 3's and Gen 5's (Hydreigon being based upon the Orochi and Lernean Hydra and the whole evolutive line being also based upon the Graeae sisters, who shared one single eyeball _only Hydreigon has visible eyes, unlike its pre-evolutions_ makes for some pretty badass inspiration.) Gen 8 having a fighter plane inspiration with a secondary ghost type is also pretty neat. The ghost type reflects both stealth and the fact that war leads to death (brilliant!). That is for me the deepest of the pseudo-legendary line inspirations, with Gen 5's ranking second!
@@sandradermark84633+5=8... Coincidence?!?!
another Dragapult appreciator, it was already my favorite pseudo but after learning it's design inspiration, I don't think any other pseudo legendary will ever replace Dragapult
@@sandradermark8463also Dragapult has an invisible tail bcz the animal it was based on was found as a fossil but it's tail was never found hence Dragapult's tail is also missing or invisible
@@theamazingspooderman2697t is no coincidence. As for Gen 3, I like the fact that the generation has TWO different pseudos to choose from; you can pick your favourite or choose the best of both worlds! I love Salamence's primary colour scheme, moon-shaped wings, insect-like metamorphosis, and the fact that its Mega has parts of the previous two stages (Bagon's helmet and Shelgon's carapace) woven into its design. As for Metagross, the sheer originality of the concept of having a non-draconic pseudo based upon ancient information technology (an ancient computer, something like the Antikythera Device is believed to be) just WOWS me. I wish future generations would also choose this route and wow us with more non-draconic pseudo-legendaries. The archetype, after nine generations, is beginning to weary us. I also wish that future generations had, like Gen 3, more than one pseudo per generation for Pokémon players to choose from.
the designs for the psuedo’s are pretty dope. They give digimon frontier vibes like for the spirits and beast spirits. Pretty cool, great job
I still maintain that Goodra should have been either Dragon/Fairy or Dragon/Poison because of the whole slime gimmick. I would like to see a pseudo-legendary that isn't a Dragon-type. I always wanted to see an Electric/Dark-type pseudo-legendary based on like an ogre or an orc. Like what you would get if you fused Electivire with Gengar.
The funny part is that Fairy does not resist fairy so a fairy goodra wouldn't resist fairy types but would have an interesting immunity to dragon types
Metagross? That’s not a dragon type
@@Narikvp I am aware. But that was back in Gen 3. The pseudo-legendary Pokemon of each gen going forward being dragon-type is sorta predictable.

I suggests you create four legendary Pokemon that respectively excels in different stats. Maybe one that excels in Offense is Ice/Fire, excels in Defense is Steel/Geo, excels in Speed is Electric/Flying and excels in HP Grass/Fairy.

I love how hisuian goodra shows why the current day ones don’t have a shell, they weren’t happy with it, they may have been better competitively speaking in the past, but the shell made them so unhappy that they eventually lost it and became pure dragon, and if we were to get a future form (not the gen 9 robots) I think it’d eventually become dragon/fairy or just pure fairy due to just how happy and loving they are
your simplified drawings of the pokemon are fantastic! Hope your game is going well!

I immediately assumed when I saw Drachedron being a 3D object, I immediately assumed oh!! It must be 4D for the final evolution! I absolutely ADORE Drachoron, I definitely see it being Spectral/Ghost in the final evolution. It feels kind of Water or Ice to me with the designs and fish/loch ness motif. I can totally see it being a normal Water or Ice type at the start, and of course the struggle to get it to Drachoron... all being worth it in the end with this massive 4D disappearing-reappearing beast!
Having a dark period where none of my comfort tubers are uploading good stuff and this is the first entertaining thing I've watched in a while it was obviously well thought out and made with love for the series. Thanks for your hard work
I love the thumbnail, it looks like some ancient writing
can i just say that the sprites are literally adorable . like amphoras looks so squishy
I think you did a pretty good job summing up the general ideas and creative choices behind psuedo-legends. Good luck with your creature collector!
I hope your game really shines man! You seem like you’ll make a great quality game! (and pokemon needs that kind of competition!) good luck dude!
if people are wondering who is the 10th pseudo in the thumbnail: the one between Dragapult and Baxcalibur It's Hisuian Goodra.
I think Melusine would’ve been a good tale to base a Kalos Pseudo on too. She’s a fairy, a water sprite, who turns into a dragon at the end. Perhaps an ability that adds the water type when it enters, giving it STAB, but this also makes it now neutral to grass and electric type attacks instead of resisting.
I have always thought Goodra should’ve been a dragon fairy type because of how it Pokédex describes it
I always wished that dhelmise worked like that. We had trick or treat in gen 6 giving a third type, so why not let steelworker give a steel type? The 4x weakness to fire would suck, having several immunities and quad resists might balance it out.
Dratini line: Adorable blue worm creature Cute longer blue worm with a regal flair Somewhat cute Orange chubby dragon I've always loved dratini and dragonair, but i'm convinced game freak just gave up continuing the design theme of the line. P.S liked Drachedron a lot. I think its a cool idea, I wasn’t expectting to hear somone designing off of one of my favorite thought experiments when I clicked on this video! For Dracogon and Drachedron I could definitely see pure neural type, since we're dealing with two and three geomentrical dimensions, which is more a thought process about the world around us, but for Drachoron, Either would work extremely well. The fourth dimension would look like a phasing ghost to us, it is foreign, unknown, so spectral would fit really well, but so would neural because the fourth dimension is arguably even more of an idea than the second and third.
My first Dragonite on Pokémon Go (one of my ace mons) is called Chawizawd. I gave him that name because he looks like a Charizard, but cute, chubby, and cuddly. Like a defanged but still powerful Charizard.
It's a wyrm btw
Love the monster hunter-style icon designs for all the pseudos! All your icon art is… icon-ic! Great video as ever 😄

Dude I know this is off topic but I love your art style. Is so simplistic yet complex and the same time. Keep up the good work man.
great video nort! i really liked this one :) loved your pseudo too, i can imagine the final stage having two different forms - one really defensive form where its covered by its film representing it being "smushed" into 3D, and a really offensive form where its more "unleashed" or natural. I see it like its able to find weaknesses we didn't even know where there in other pokemon, because it can see in another dimension. Maybe that could go into the unique ability somehow? Super excited to see what else you come up with!

Fun fact about abilities is they started as far back as gen 1 in the trading card game, it just took two generations to get them into the actual games, so we might assume they were always intended to be included but perhaps were too complex to code until the advanced generation.

OMG Why this guy hasn't gotten famous till now!!! Amazing animation as well as such a nice imagination. I recommend you to put a unique move of your newly designed pokemon, like a 4 dimensional beam, or something like that.
Bro explained 4-D polychorons to be able to draw a mon based on the 4-D. Props for that 🤝
These simple animations are so eye catching
I really like you pseudo legendary. and It reminds me of two science based designs that I've made. dracogon really reminds me of Polyon, the fakemon I made inspired by an anyon, which is a recently discovered 2D quasiparticle. the other is Singfinity, a fakemon I made inspired by a singularity. It's 0D and evolves whenever anything happens to it.
I remember I saw a fan theory (can’t remember from who/where) that heatran is a pseudo legendary but the first two stages just haven’t been discovered since they live in the core of the earth. I choose to believe that because it makes heatran more interesting and fits (heatran has 600 base stats and is kind of out of place as a legendary) even if it’s absolutely not canon
Heatran does look a lot like metagross, maybe it’s like an earlier version of it but without the whole supercomputer 100000iq thing
And it’s gendered implying it can breed. Which is very interesting amongst other legendaries.
Great way to start my day. Good work
I really love the art style! Great job!! ✌🏼😊
I love Drachoron! Such a cool idea for a line This isn’t a suggestion, since I know you probably want to avoid feature/scope creep, but I think it would be fun if there were Ultra-Beast-Style “alternate universe mons” based on STEM’s lesser-known counterpart, HEART (Humanities, Ethics, Art, Rhetoric, and Teaching)
I believe the reason Gabite does not stand out to Garchomp unless you really compare the two is because the share a colour scheme while also having a similar body composition.
This is a great video and your drawings are awesome!
I need the pokemon art this guy uses in this video, the minimalist style of the pokemon looks fantastic
I absolutely love the art style for both the ones in the thumbnail and all of the illustrations in the video. The line less style is so clean and really enjoyable to look at, are you by any chance going to make merch with the art anytime in the future? The shapes are very satisfying
