Hi Everyone! This is a video outlining my German learning Journey and how I passed the Goethe Institut B1 exam with a 6/7 month period.
When I was learning German 🇩🇪 ( and as I’m trying to learn other languages now) I always found it really motivating to see other people who had been successful in learning the language. When I watched these videos I knew it could be done! It always gave me hope and a drive to keep learning even when it got tough.
I hope this video can be a source of motivation for any of you who are learning your first foreign language, German or other, and that you can see that it is possible. Just keep at it!
I am by no means fluent. B1 level is only in the middle of the language learning framework. An intermediate level. However, it allows me to communicate in the language and understand most day-to-day things.
It’s an awesome feeling being able to communicate with someone else in a foreign language and I hope you guys get to experience it too. It never fails to make me happy 😃

  • I had reached in a year from zero to C1 with help of language school, and now I study in german university in German. So it's possible to learn German so fast since german is a quite logical language compared to English. This is a message to all who learn German. I could do it so there is no reason that you can't do it. Good luck!!

  • As someone trying to learn german, it felt great to realize I could just close my eyes, listen and actually understand everything you said/everything you talked about. Despite not understanding every single word I never found myself lost or confused about what you were saying which feels like a (for me) major milestone, which is very motivating for me in that it feels like I'm actually getting somewhere. Your story also is very motivating, that it absolutely can be possible in shorter timespans if one only puts the time in. Thanks!

    • @@allinwarda5894 Not very long, I learnt a little bit in school but very little, just like Jay said in the video I just wasn't very interested for some reason. For maybe 1-2 years now I've just made the habit of looking up german words that seem recurrent in the language that I don't understand. And I keep doing that until they kind of stick. I sometimes try to listen to german media of different sorts, podcasts etc. Even though it's often very tiring for me (kind of exhausting for the brain), sometimes I understand most of what's being said and sometimes I almost don't understand anything at all. Now I've only just started using duolingo and have practised a little bit every day the past week or so. The more I learn the more motivated I seem to get which is nice. Also I'm from Sweden and know english fluently which I feel has given me a sort of head start, since german is a language that's a little bit inbetween english and swedish.

Nice motivation that you envy someone that speaks 1,2,3 languages and you're the best proof that it's feasible. Same like playing an music instrument, not necessarily in school class but later on. Therefore I am very sorry for British students to loose the opportunity to study abroad within Erasmus programme.

  • As a Dutch speaker that speaks German fluently, the way your sentences flow is incredibly impressive. Also the fact that you put a random “ja” as a filler word shows that you’re comfortable. Of course over time your accent will improve, but it sounds kinda nice tbh, it has something of a historic German-American feel to it. Think Pennsylvanian Dutch. My advice it to listen to natural spoken German in street interviews and consume youth related YT channels and news like DW Deutsch to build up vocab! You’re amazing.

    • You need to find a different method. It also helps a great deal to listen to German music, watch German shows, and listen to German videos especially in subjects you are interested in. If you can it also helps to find a German friend. I haven’t quite reached the point I can construct many sentences in German but I have been studying for less than a month and I already know probably about a few hundred words and am learning many new words everyday, still have to work on my word endings and when to use Die, Der, Das. You may have already found a method right for you since this comment comes a year later.

    • @@frogGames true, it’s also about how you spend your time. I took a few months of German a few years ago, and I’ve kept it up by habitually translating random things to German (signs, my thoughts, things in text friends, etc). The end result is that I’ve gotten quite decent at writing and speaking, and reading, but immediately get lost when a native speaks to me at normal speed. Go figure

It's really impressive that you fully learned German in such a short amount of time, especially since your accent is really weak, for a few sentences I couldn't hear one at all but it pops back in every once in a while I'm learning Korean at the moment and having an accent like yours is pretty much my ultimate dream! Das ist so motivierent und inspirierend!!

We HAD to learn english if we want to survive in this vast internet world, because majority of the internet content is written in english, so we have no choice but to learn english. And it's so cool for you as an english speakers, to learn another language just for the sake of it. Me too just start to learning german a few days back, and this video kinda gave me the basic stances of where to start and what to learn with. So thanks.
