Almost 20 years ago I bought the Berlitz "Learn to Speak German" program and spent months learning the language. I got good enough to basically converse and read things, but I always struggled with hearing comprehension and more everyday stuff, especially keeping up to date. This KZhead channel is perfect; it's everything a learner needs. The kids don't know how lucky they are.

Check out NesfateLP for some on the fly translation let's play videos. If you can do what she does you're at an advanced level.

I think I'm finally at that point where I can understand most of the video just by listening. Now the problem isn't just understanding things it's remembering them when I try to speak so I don't just go ahhhhhh ja ja.

Another thing that i've heard quite a lot is: "Ach so" (is used to dramatically express a sudden enlightenment of comprehension, especially when the final "so" converts to "soooooooo")

Am 20. Juni 2022 hab ich angefangen, Easy German Videos täglich anzusehen und zwar mit der Nummer 456. 🤗Seitdem habe ich mir bis heute 131 Videos angeschaut und Kommentare geschrieben.😎 Das ist aber was, nä? 😄 An der Uni habe ich Deutsch als Fremdsprache studiert, ich habe jedoch mehr durch eure Videos gelernt, vor allem Alltagsprache. Danke dafür! 😇 Mein Ziel ist mein Deutsch zu perfektionieren und C2Zertfikat zu bekommen. 🤫Easy German spielt eine große Rolle dabei, jeden Tag ein Video hilft mir am Ball bleiben. 🤓 Obwohl ich die Podcast schon zugehört habe, möchte ich von Anfang an noch mal zuhören. 👂 Ich bin leider kein Patreonmitglied aber ich hoffe, dass meine Kommentare und Likes bei dem KZhead-Algorithmus helfen. ✌ Außerdem emfehle ich allem, der Deutsch lernen möchte. 👈 Macht weiter so! 👏 Ich benutze also solche Aussagen: 1. Wie ist die Lage?, 2. Und sonst so?, 3. So lala, 4. Genau, 5. Mal gucken, 6. Man sieht sich, 7. Sei gegrüßt, 8. ...,was? 9. Meinste? Und in Hamburg sagt man MOIN! 🥰

Loved this video. I'm "relearning" German after not using it for years and I love knowing what the current expressions are. My German is based on the local dialect (Mannhein/Heidelberg) my German relatives were speaking in the 70s and 80s and I needed a refresh. Thank you!

I love to hear the way you speak German, it reminds me of the way my father spoke German. His father was a teacher as were most of their fathers going back to the 1700s in Ost Preussen. His father was sent to teach in a German school in Posen Province but they were displaced following WW1 finally settling in Kolberg where he grew up, neither opa or oma survived WW2 and you know what happened to those from Kolberg. I once asked him if he could speak any Kolberger platt. He said they were forbidden to speak any Platt at home so if he knew any he had already forgotten it besides our Mutti was from the Ruhr (Duisburg) and she'd have difficulties understanding his dialect. Even my mom said that the original Duisburger dialect from her region had mostly died out due to the huge influx of immigrants from the east (Poland, East, West Prussia, Posen Province etc. to work in the coal mines and steel mills in the area) and although her parents spoke it initially they spoke only Hoch Deutsch with the kids especially after Thyssen forbade any language but Hoch Deutsch at his sites. When I visited Oma in the 1970s I asked if she could still speak the Duisburger dialect and she said perhaps it would come back if she spoke with someone who also spoke the dialect but otherwise no. There is some kind of new dialect that has arisen there but it isn't the very Dutch dialect they used to speak. Grüße aus Kanada.
In the 70s and 80s dialects in general had a bit of an "Hillbilly" Image. I know a lot people who never learned to speak their dialect because their parents spoke High German with them. The parents thought their children would have it easier in school and later in their life. A whole Generation that haven't learned the dialects was a one big nail into the coffin of several german dialects. There are other reasons as well, why the german dialects are dieing but I think this is the main reason.
@@bumtisch That's likely true, since my dad's side of the family were primarily in Ost Preussen we now have family spread across Germany but oddly enough none in Bavaria. In the Pfalz their dialect is still very prevalent and my cousins still speak it among themselves but when our family is around they speak hoch Deutsch and the same is true in Ost Friesland, I had a girlfriend in Aurich and whenever she was talking to her friends about me she would switch to their dialect and naturally switch to hoch Deutsch to speak with me. And Bayern they still speak their dialects there too.

Gängige Ausdrücke zu erklären ist schon eine gute Idee, aber noch besser ist es ,die Erklärungen komplett auf Deutsch mit lesbaren Untertiteln zu geben und Videos zu sendendem zu verstehen, wie diese ausdrücke im Alltag verwendet werden und die Leute dazu zu bringen, auf der Strasse darüber zu reden ,das ist grossartig .prima ! Was bedeutet das ?
@@lilidane8975 Das bedeutet, das etwas, was vorgefallen ist, von dem Gesprächspartner als nicht so schlimm empfunden wird. Zum Beispiel nach dem Einkauf: Person 1: "Oh, ich habe deine Lieblingsnudeln vergessen." - Person 2: "Das macht nichts! Ich habe heute eh nicht so viel Hunger darauf." Synonym kannst du auch "Alles gut" oder "Passt schon" benutzen, wobei beides eher informell verwendet wird. It tells the other person, that anything what happend is not as bad as he/she thinks it is. For example after going shopping: "Oops, I forgot your favourite noodles." - "Never mind! I'm not hungry for that today anyway."

Ich bin Deutscher und wusste bis zu einer bestimmten Situation nicht, dass es typisch deutsch ist auf "Mach's gut!" mit "Mach's besser!" zu anwtorten. Das hatte mich zunächst verwirrt.

as an english speaking person, when you ask someone how it's going and they say "it's going" you know that they're dead inside. It's nice to know that this expression translates directly and with the same exact feeling of "please kill me" behind the words! sehr hilfreich!
"Es geht" oder "(Es) läuft" has nothing to do with what you are talking about.

Man hat mir hier in Deutschland beigebracht, dass man zu "wie geht's?" mit "muss, ja" beantworten kann. "Muss, ja" bedeutet sowas wie "es muss gehen" als ob man keine andere Wahl hat :D also quasi wie "geht so"/"es geht"

Remember that modal verbs in deutsch are separated, you put the modal verb first, then all thing you wanna say and at the end the conjugated verb

Ihr habt recht, das sind die wichtigsten Redewendungen. Ich hatte keine davon im Deutschunterricht gelernt (außer na ja), musste aber die meisten schnell lernen, nachdem ich in Deutschland zum ersten Mal landete.
Ich werde sie in meine Liste der wichtigsten Vokabeln aufnehmen! Ein perfektes Video, um zu lernen und gleichzeitig Spaß zu haben ✨ Die Phrasen sind sehr notwendig und aktuell, Danke!
I have a question about “Passt schon!”, but it’s more of a cultural question than a linguistic question I suppose. I’m an American of Armenian and German descent. In Armenian, Arab, and many other West Asian/Middle Eastern cultures, people decline help just to be polite, but they don’t really mean it. It’s just completely expected! Otherwise, you’re seen as ungracious. So for example if someone said “it’s okay, you really don’t have to go to all that trouble”, the other person would be expected to say “no, it’s fine! It’s no trouble at all!” They would likely go back and forth like that for quite some time before the other accepted the help. My question is, in Germany, do people seriously mean it when they say “Passt schon”? Or are they just being polite because you’re doing more for them then they expected you would need to? I picture this German just saying “Passt schon! Alles gut” and the other just saying “Okay, Tschüss”. Is this an accurate depiction? 😂
I think that if someone says "passt schon" after asking for something, it means that the situation is lasting too long and becoming annoying for both!As a result, I guess they really mean it and it'd be better not to insist 😂
@Kathrin Schwarzbach and in Bavaria/Austria we pronounce it more like: "Basst scho" ;)
