Just for fun.
The video describes how the digital organisms in the simulation have adapted to the change of day and night.
I show fragments of the simulation, providing my comments and genome analysis.

I think next you should implement a system for dead cells. Most trees irl don't fall immediately when they die, and even when they do fall, they stick around awhile.
Dead cells, and distinct "fungus" cells that can only feed on dead cells would be a nice addition to this
@@NJP-Supremacist I don't think fungus should be it's own cell. I would rather dead cells slowly turn into rot/fungus, and then disappear

This simulation can never be realistic because it is an evolution simulation. Evolution simulations are fun but unrealistic.
Actually this content is completelly stolen, original series can be found on foo52rus on KZhead, tho its on Russian, I would understand if the content Washington translation, but this is complete ripoff

Think about putting a "ground" layer that has no solar energy, but the plants need to spread "roots" there to be able to utilize more energy from the "leaves"
That's a really good idea. As it is, the simulation is ignoring half of what makes a plant

Interesting that the organism described around minute 7 has adopted a lifecycle similar to ferns, with spore, sporophyte and gametophyte corresponding to the 1 cell, 4 cell, and multicellular forms.
Whatever happened to the system a few videos back in which the seeds don't disappear when they land on another plant?
seems to be removed. i imagine its a big source of lag and slows down the overall simulations
create a nitrogen cycle type thing where when a tree dies, the ground around it is better for growth and that if a seed falls in good soil it will gain a starting energy boost. Bad soil will reduce starting energy
Idea: add ground and a root system. Trees will require energy from the sun, but also water and nutrients. Dead trees decompose into the ground and add back nutrients.
I feel like your "day/night" cycle is more analogous to seasons. day and nights are very short compared to plants night cycles, whereas seasons are more closely related to their growth cycles.
I don’t tend to comment much, but I have too, as your channel has quickly become my favorite, I’ve always been fascinated with genetics and evolution, and am glad I’ve finally found a channel that also does. Keep up the great work!
These videos are amazing and inspired me to try and create similar sims on my own. It would be really interesting to see a video on how you create these sims.

You have been very inspirational to me, but I'm just a beginner coder. Is it possible for me to make something like this in just Python? I'm struggling with knowing how to properly visualize the simulations I want to run. They are very (visually) - something like a grid 100x100 to start, with tiles that change colours based on which agent 'owns' them, if any, and updates in real time as their control spreads. As well as just some simple buttons and data display. I've tried looking up things by myself but I get so many different answers ranging from built-in Python libraries to PyGame, to needing to use another language/engine for the GUI, etc. I'd really appreciate getting pointed to a good place to start! I want to try to make my own things like this.
A great place to start would be with recreating the "Game of Life" simulation. I've done similar work to that. For visualizations I've used ascii, pygame, and some heatmap visualizers. I don't think the interface matters all that much. Just run with whatever you're comfortable with.
@@EurostaSolidaginis As much as I've seen things on the Game of Life, I haven't really considered making my own for some reason as practice, which feels a little silly of me in hindsight heh. I'll give it shot, since the foundations are fairly similar to what I'm thinking of for a starting project. Though, one of my concerns and why I'm curious to learn what types of languages and interfaces other people us has to do with limitations in rendering power/efficiency, because I would like to scale up to some bigger projects. I'll just keep it small for now until I get more comfortable :) I tend to think ahead too much and end up not actually -doing- enough. Thanks for the response!

The bands of energy in the episode preview strongly resemble the "root simulation" people keep asking for. The plants are seeking out the areas of high energy, which they grow to occupy as fully as possible. I'd be interested to see vertical bands to see what types of competition emerge. I'd also be interested to see a simulation where energy is removed and redistributed as part of the life cycle. Excited for more!
One thing that I think needs to be mentioned is real trees live on the scale of years to decades, so a single night isnt going to do much to it as it experiences 1000s of individual day night cycles throuout its life, I think a better thing to implement to make it more realistic would be seasons like summer and winter.
It was explained in an earlier video the point of this series isn't to replicate nature but to simulate evolution, it's also explained these are named tress because they happen to look similar, not because this is supposed to be a tree a sim. Agree that summer and winter seem like more appropriate terms here though

Sorry, but I have to ask. Do you use a machine generated voice or your own voice? Because it feels oddly robotic, and yet natural as well. Kinda like your artificial life.
This channel was originally in Russian, but a fan decided to translate these videos and publish them. I think he is paying for a voice actor, so any grammar issues in the script he gives probably are what causes that affect
Very neat project. You should also add seasons. I made a simulation but i added the neural networks to the creatures, the plants only have physical genes.

Would love to have access to the simulation to play with. Maybe after you finish your research?
Could you simulate Summer and winter year cycles? Shorter days longer nights and a high cost to grow in winter with the opposite in the summer? I'm trying to think of a way to represent the temperature other than growth cost maybe a water fuel resource that drives growth, simulate water availability / scarcity for hot dry conditions at peak summer, and water as its locked up as ice in winter would allow for more realist spring growth rates.

You should have different parts of the world having different height so plants have different species at each height
What if you scrap the age thing, and make them drop seeds when they die? also i think it would be amazing if you made a playlist with all your "digital trees" videos!

I don't think the day night thing leads to anything interesting, especially since a tree grows and dies entirely within one day without it ever being night for it.
