Artificial Life. The battle of clans
Artificial Life. The battle of clans
A new version of “Artificial Life” for modeling Evolution.
A made-up world with made-up rules inhabited by cells with a genome and the ability to give birth to other cells.
Sometimes mutation occurs and one random digit in the genome changes to another. And then natural selection comes into play…
The script was written based on the results of the simulation, so the story could have been very different.
In the video, emphasis is placed on the “socio-political” interactions of the organisms. To achieve this type of interaction, the organisms were divided into clans.
Although there really isn't any interaction here (there are no built-in opportunities for interaction and recognition of one’s own species), the general development of the world creates such an impression.

Incredible how clans 1 and 5 formed a symbiotic relationship with one another. No wonder they won.

Technically, all of them were in a symbiosis as soon as the walls dropped. Those small ones at the end were more specifically in a "mutualistic symbiosis". See: Wikipedia (symbiosis).
@@jelleludolf Predation and population displacement is not symbiosis. There was a point where all clans became symbiotic, but only near the end when Clan 6 died out and Clan 5 entered Clan 8's territory.
The idea about worlds without a certain kind of predator being especially vulnerable to worlds which adapted with them is a very interesting concept. Also, might I suggest plants in your office?
To me it sounds like the war of the world's bacterial twist
Kinda like you having a higher chance to get sick if you visit a different country.
Thats literally just invasive species. It has happened so many times irl. Housecats are a particularly prominent example or here in australia cane toads also do this
We saw something very similar when the land bridge between North America and South America formed. North America had much larger predators than South America did at the time so when they started to cross the newly formed bridge south bound, it caused the extinction of several species that were unable to adapt. Can't remember many of the details beyond that though.
Or bigger change of getting robbed in Nigeria
It would be interesting if there were mechanics for communication (even something as simple as a cell being on and off, while other organisms can read that and it changes things) and the ability to have personal relationships or status.
or share energy, or crossbreed
There are no means of communication here. Maybe someday I will add this feature. In one or two months, a video about a project demonstrating swarm intelligence will be released. In that project, everything is based on the exchange of information.

I like that clans 1 and 5's symbiotic relationship is similar to that between ravens and wolves. 5 (the Raven) searched for prey in other sectors, bringing 1 (the Wolf) and having it take out prey so it can settle in and feed on the remains (organic waste)
That's a very good analogy of the relationship of sectors 1 and 5.
The incredible part about this video is that it's almost designed to be watched twice because knowing the end result makes the second watch through just as entertaining. Great content!

I love how sector 1 went from basically vegan monks with no waste pollution to hardened cannibals that kill on sight.
I think it’s good to note that clan 5, which coevolved with clan 1, evolved a highly mobile, almost serpentine growth form, which likely reduced the impact the predators had on it, most other clans produced more typical plants that could be more easily swarmed and consumed.

I like the very distinct speciation between the clans that occurred early on, showing how isolation and initial conditions were so important to the simulation. Maybe we need a repeat of this experiment.

I picked clan 1, because their lifestyle was visibly extremely different to the others'. Something unique but successful is very difficult to prepare for, so everyone is vulnerable.
I choose them because they were the underdog, and small scale stability over quick expantion
Very cool, I love these emerging systems. Can't wait for your next videos.

Really interesting that the 5th clan, which has first exposure to the predator, was able to 'hitch a ride' with it and use it to colonize other sectors.
like human pets
I love the narration! I think it's interesting that in the final epoch, ones things somewhat reached a stable ecosystem, we can see a few distinct species that are capable of surviving together. Meanwhile, many species which existed early on, before the presence of single-celled predators, are nowhere to be found. Early on we see a lot of creatures that grow rapidly and cover all available space, while in the final epoch, we see many "snake-like" species that grow in a straight line and only occasionally turn or branch. I wonder if a similar phenomenon happened in Earth's evolutionary history. Perhaps during the "Great Oxygenation Event" when the first oxygen-producing organisms evolved and nearly killed all life on Earth.
I love this video too. If only it wasn't just plain copy without a credit. foo52ru is an actual author of all the videos on this channel and I can't find any credit to him

@@forgivenid yeah, actualy he post in his chanel that he himself created this chanel (or atleast was involved in it)
To be clear, there were multiple species within each clan. The original organisms speciated and changed. The behaviors of clan 5 before the walls came down is vastly different from them at the end.
idk but the voice really sounds like it's AI generated?
Рад видеть экспансию на английском ютубе, Техношаман!

I picked 5/teal, I thought it looked like a good medium between all of them, looking both expansive, yet stable. Happy to see they won
This is amazing. Btw, I see the "unicellular predators" less of an immune system, and more of a bacterial system (since there's good bacteria). The bacteria in our gut helps break down molecules so we can use the stored energy. But then, when an unfamiliar bad virus or bacteria comes along that we're not used to, it can wipe an entire people (like the Native Americans and smallpox).
Fascinating stuff! Great video, I can't wait to see more. :) I think if each area had a name instead of a number, it might be easier for viewers to keep track of the areas + it adds flavor to the simulation. But most importantly, keep doing what you're doing! Cheers

Honestly for me, the numbers are much easier. It's a straightforward 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8.

That was so satisfying to watch. Stuff like this is why I'd like to get more involved with coding so I can make stuff like this for enjoyment. The music really added to how mesmerising the visuals were as well.
Long ago, the 8 clans lived in harmony, then everything changed when the Unicellular clan attacked.
Stuff like this is like magic to me, I dont even know where to start with "generating your own universe with agents capable of evolution and growth"
You need to bring this to a bigger scale. Something crazy like 2^14 x 2^14 (16384 x 16384), and if your computer can't handle that, then try to turn this program into something that runs on your GPU. I would also love to see you give different species names, and write a little program that makes a chart of how they evolve, or just a table of how they evolved and you turn that into a chart. Then we could see what exactly happened as far as evolution is concerned, and as you would go through the events that took place on the massive grid like you did in this video, you would keeping referencing back to that evolution diagram to show how the evolutionary pressures made the different species evolve into others.
This has to be the coolest evolution sim I've seen.
I love how it evolved moss, worms and bacteria, even with this super simple world.
Thank you for laying out the rules so well and clear. Didn't know I was interested in this kind of stuff until seeing your take on it. Positive vibes to you :)
I’ve recently become fascinated by these programs / simulations! Always amazing to watch!
I picked clan 5 because it seemed like it had a dynamic movement pattern that seemed adaptable. At the time of picking I had no idea what clan 1 was doing. It's interesting to me how clan 1 and 5 found a way to co exist to attack the other clans. Clan 1 cleared out the tribe allowing clan 5 to move in.

You should try running this simulation several times and record the final surviving specie/s. After 8 rounds you fill each of the recorded surviving specie/s into a cell and have them all compete. Im curious if there's an absolute dominate combination or if new life will be created from the ultimate brawl.
A similar "tournament" could also be implemented just by having a larger grid with more compartments, optionally with thicker walls between the supercompartments.
He can't because the whole video is a copy from foo52ru.

would be cool if you could add some code hooks to in your event loop that checks the zone data and comes up with some words to describe if its growth , new variations ,destroyed or eaten cells etc... then feed that text into a image generator like like stable diffusion with the prompt words and create images with time line tags , so you get like a visual story of generations . There would probably be hippy generations , and dark ages , wars and utopian ... almost like a comic or graphic novel of the life span of the AI world
Not everything needs an AI
@@iceblaster1252 yeah, not everything needs but this is pretty much a representation of AI , so it could have additional storytelling generated by AI to give different perspectives of the data it's presenting. In the same way I can enjoy the Peter Pan book, but also enjoy the Disney animation and still enjoy the robin Williams hook movie, same data different perspectives visualised for entertainment and education.
Seventh Clan had a strong start but the introduction of the single-celled predators really hit them hard. Though they lost their previous might, they had the strength to endure, and even the dominant First/Fifth Clan couldn't wipe them out. All hail the Seventh Clan, for one day they shall reclaim their rightful throne as Kings!
It's super interesting to see how a simple evolution naturally led to something my grandma would call "ugly", and that I would call scifi patterns and inelegant randomness. It's just... emergent, and function-typed, somehow. Fascinating
Great! Would love to see more if it!
That was great. I love music and game design, but also i want to say some words of improvement to video. In the video there was some point i cannot catch quickly enough and the numbers of clans started to missmatch who is who. I would love to a little longer video with transitions being more often going to all 8 sectors view and zooming back to clan of interest. Also shifting sectors was confusing sometimes and it would be great to be signalized somehow. Also I found the explanation of world difficult and needed some time of constantly rewatching video to catch so i think it would be great to put more focus on that. The most difficult was species description, it would be great to see some examples at begging how every cell works. Thank you again for great video!
These videos are translated (I think from Russian) so the language barrier makes it hard for to the creator to do some of this
Awesome work!
That was really cool! I wonder if the dominance of predators could be abated somewhat if plants could develop cells that store organic matter or charge etc, that are themselves unaffected by those? Then a predator munching on the storage cells would have a good chance to OD if the plant focused on bioaccumulating toxic levels in these storage cells.
This looks super interesting! There's a lot of variation in the initial isolated areas too. Is this available to run on our own computers?
I think its a private project
This was a million times more entertaining than any sport.
I find it very interesting how clan 7 quickly adopted the unicellular predators from clan 1.
Wow, you must have read my mind, because I had a very similar idea for a life simulation a few days ago. The only main difference was that my idea involved the cells never moving at all, and perhaps that would lower the effectiveness of single-celled organisms.
They're not moving.

This is a really fun simulation, absolutely loved this. It'll be a while before we are ever able to create a simulation that meaningfully mirrors our world's ecosystem & including our human species.
