The ironic part about the beginning of this series is sasauke set the tone early for selflessness and established the selfless nature of team 7 all the way until the end of the Garra arc Saved Naruto from haku, got over his fear and awakened his sharingan to Fight off orochimaru and protect Sakura, then fought garra and told Naruto to take Sakura and run before his body gave out. Those acts literally inspired sparked the team (usually Naruto) When they needed it the most. He would have been a great hokage if he never went rogue

I like to think in Kakashi's Infinite Tsyukyomi, all 3 of them work together to try and get the bells. They still fail, but when Kakashi tries to only fail Naruto, the other 2 stick up for him and he passes them all. Then he gets to watch Naruto succeed Tsunade as Hokage while he retires and reads every new book Jiraiya publishes.

As someone who let his friend get crushed by a rock due to his own selfishness, Kakashi wouldn't let anyone succeed if they were selfish. Regardless of who they are. He doesn't value skills in that way, because he himself used to be a selfish genius and it wasn't worth it.
He def was, they address this in later episodes
kakashi probably didn't have the power to ban them from being ninja but he definitely wasn't going to teach them if they didn't measure up

Despite his agendas in this test. It was wasted on them. He wanted teammates who truly cared for each other but they hardly did that. Sasuke took the initiative only because he prioritized their performance, not because he cared for naruto. Sakura simply followed sasuke as usual like a sheep. The others who failed before them did way better, particularly the siblings where the one tied to the pole told his brothers not to worry about himself. And eventually his error showed. sasuke became a rogue ninja and his true colors showed

If Naruto wasn't so naive he could've grabbed the bell by making at least 6 shadow clones on that rope trap one for the trap to be activated then the other for the second one then the other 4 can grab it and keep a eye out.
