How will China respond to the US, Philippines drills in the South China Sea? | DW News
The United States and the Philippines are set to begin their annual ‘Balikatan’ - or “shoulder-to-shoulder” - military exercises. These are the most expansive military drills yet, and come amid a rise in tensions between China and the Philippines.
This year’s drills will include the first-ever military exercises held outside of Philippine territorial waters, in the South China Sea. Those are waters are partly claimed by Beijing. The US and the Philippines have a longstanding mutual defense treaty and at a recent summit in Washington, US President Joe Biden said his country’s commitments to Manila were “ironclad”.

New to this drill is the weapon...able to deliver _n_ to China city. General Charles Flynn, commander of US Army Pacific, said the U$ to deploy medium-range missiles in Asia to deter China. Under the provisions of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) signed between the USSR and the US in 1987, Washington could not deploy missile launchers, land-based ballistic missiles and cruise missiles with a range of 500 to 5,500 kilometers. However, in 2019, the US withdrew from the treaty.
They are not disputed waters since they are clearly waters within the Philipines EEZ. China has no business operating within those waters and this has been legally established.

The nine dash line is the most greedy thing I've ever seen. How can they justify in their heads, owning territory that is far, far closer to the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia? It's honestly genuinely ridiculous. It's not even close to a fair deal. If Beijing wants friends, then they need to stop trying to appeal to racial unity, and start giving everyone a fair shake. A deal to settle this ridiculous claim would go along way to bringing Asia closer to them. But their greed knows no end, and it will be their undoing.
You nailed it! Actually, if China wants the support and love of the Filipinos, they just need to follow the arbitral ruling that the Philippines won in 2016. The Philippines only wants to protect the livelihood of its fishermen that fishes to those disputed waters without intimidation and harassment.
