I went from a curved VA for 6 years and just got an asus IPS this month...I am never going back to a VA. Worse response time, Worse blur, the contrast is the only thing better imo but not to the point of wanting or needing a VA. 3800 hrs of Destiny 2 on pc, once I fired it up for the first time with the ips it was way better.
Really dependent on which monitor you get... They're not all the same, especially considering the age of your VA.

Why? Nothing overly wrong with modern ones.
Only if you play competetive multiplayer or racing sims. IPS image quality is poor (atrocious, imo) due to minuscle contrast. I'd take a modern VA display with low input lag and moderate amount of smearing over IPS any day, no question. It's night and day difference for me. OLED is a different, higher plane of existence altogether.
I agree with Juan. I purchased a rather high-end and pricey IPS panel a few years back and very much regretted it. I even exchanged the first one, because coming from a good VA panel, the backlight bleed caused me to think it is broken. But no. The replacement was no better. People have been marketing-duped into thinking refresh rates are the be-all end-all of gaming monitors, but IMHO anything over 144Hz is merely nice to have. All modern VA monitors blow past that, and with that the main reason to prefer IPS is gone. Reasons to prefer IPS today: - Color accuracy - Off angle viewing - Use in bright environments In most cases, none of those criteria are relevant for gaming.
@@juanblanco7898 while I mostly agree with you, I use an IPS daily for editing images and video grading. While the contrast isn't as high as a VA, it's still more than sufficient for my needs. In fact, usually IPS monitors will have better colour accuracy, less colour distortion and of course have better viewing angles than VAs.
