There's one stand out talent on the instruments they're playing here and it isn't the drummer.

It's possible this particular song was written to focus on the talents of lead guitar, but I doubt it. This is a very long song with plenty of time to let the other instruments shine, so it's highly likely written with their relative capabilities in mind. Although the bass guitar and drums are well executed, there's no demonstration of special acuity. I've been a drummer since the age of 10 and there's nothing I couldn't do by my second year. The guy playing lead guitar is notably talented. Anyone who understands instrumental prowess beyond a layman's perspective will recognize this.

I discovered this band when I was at a cannabis cafe on a secluded alley in Bangkok. The speaker was playing Two Fish and An Elephant by Khruangbin and I could have never been more happy. It was such a euphoric moment. I ended just vibing with the rest of the other smokers, high AF! LOL

Turned on Shazam on my iPhone to identify the tune and band. Now here I am on KZhead in awe of this band whom I was not familiar with. Time for me to buy some new tunes! I was told Khruangbin were amazing live before I saw them in 2022, and I struggled to believe how their music could translate so well in a live setting. They happened to only deliver one of the best live performances I've ever seen after I had doubted them. If you haven't seen them yet, do.

The bass playing is the same man. Both of them simple but just what's required. I feel like the best musicians are the ones that can shred really fast but know their role. All 3 of these guys seem like they play with no ego, nobody wants to be the star of the show and it makes a beautiful sound.

@@philesq9595 it sounds crisp and clean partly because of the arrangement being so well put together, each instrument has its space, they're probably using some very nice preamps as well as the mics for that vintage sound. The engineers done a great job mixing everything to sound so full and warm but ultimately this band is just great at playing and putting together tunes.

@@philesq9595 They've said it once before in an interview. They play very softly, which allows the engineers to really play with levels to adjust them properly. It really helps capturing dynamic range when you don't clip it at all.

August 10 was redefined after this version. I keep coming back to this just to scratch that itch because the studio version wasn't enough anymore after this came out.
I've discovered this performance years ago but when I was and out of the hospital starting in 2021, I would have trouble sleeping, but thanks to this performance I was able to relax and sleep. Now sometime later it still helps me sleep. I'm forever thankful for this video and band for this lovely performance. Thank you Khruangbin

I’m a 61 year-old guitarist who has played for over 45 years. This band’s guitarist has grokked a half-century of soul and R&B, like some kind of mellow, slo-mo Hendrix. Just a pleasure to hear. Bass and drums are so solid!

I agree. I also love how the rhythm section doesn't overplay. So measured and disciplined but still so groovy and expressive.
Laura has one of the best, if not the best bass tone I've ever heard. I am so envious of that sound. Warm, woody, squeaky. It's just immaculate.

@@100mntsshe often doesn't fully press down between the frets, and seems to use a light finger and the edge of the frets to make a wooden [which op so accurately described] and dull tone. I THINK she actually does this on purpose. Is that what you meant?

Another component of it may be the metal piece over the bridge, which I believe comes with a built in foam to mute the strings. So there might be some muting going on while she plays
