If you're wondering why that used Acura is so cheap, I'm going to tell you why. It's not always good news either, as some of these reasons might have you rethinking that used car purchase! Acura has been associated with the Honda brand for a long time, and for good reason but that doesn't make it all the same when it comes to Acura reliability, prices, and features.

Maybe its just me but i think the acuras he showed looked better than most of the other brands he showed
Thanks
Yeah just hate the taillights though
Yep when he said the styling is boring I shocked 😮 my head lol
That Accura look good but it priced up there with Mercedes prices without the name.
Acura styling is exciting yet subtle at the same time. Most of us who grew up with the brand are more than satisfied with Acuras new approach. Some say they are late to the party but I say they are just cautious not to jump into things early. How long have EVs and Hybrids been around? Long enough to think they would be perfected now...but yet here we are in 2024 and still having range issues. And the best EVs are not even available in the US because of our ongoing trade wars with China. Is this about the environment or money, I often wonder!
Nissan and Infiniti ruined their brand with CVTs. Innovation almost cost them the house. Honda has engineering mistakes as well. This is why I drive Toyota/Lexus.
Subaru went to CVT too, waiting to see if the love is gone 😂
Absolutely spot on! Jatco transmissions are poorly engineered and rarely make it past 75K
To bad toyota is not 100% toyota they use mazda , bmw , yamaha end subaru to complete there cars not good to me
Honda and Acura are more innovative than Toyota looks like your going on one platform Toyota doesn’t even make there drive trains they buy from Mazda,Yamaha,Subaru and BMW looks like you not informing to precisely😂
Toyota sticks to one formula and if it has kinks in it they work it out. They may get parts from other manufacturers however if they did not perform to their expectations they wouldn’t keep using them. The big three continually change and don’t perfect anything except below par mediocrity. Honda had me until they strayed from their formula. Acuras are overpriced and I am guessing overpriced to service. I will stick with Toyota because of their persistence to not stray from formula.
Acura talks about technology but their strength is engineering and never making anything overly complicated. I can take my MDX to Firestone for oil changes and basic services. My BMW X7 is Dealer only and if it throws a code my $450 service will turn into an $800 one.
Not to mention my Type S has ride adjustable suspension, torque vectoring AWD, etc for less than these options from zee germans.
I worked for Lexus for over 24 years. Awesome company to work for can’t say anything wrong about Lexus.
Just can't stand the front grill design. So obnoxious, and it's across the entire lexus brand... That's just personal tho, I can't deny they are great vehicles.
When it comes to automotive specs, I like this guy's word per minute ratio. You always get your money's worth.
😂😂
What I love about Acura amongst other things is the fact that when you get the Platinum Elite trim you have all the features at a relatively good price. Other primum brands seem be more a la cart and to have all the features the price quickly jumps up.
If you spec a new Acura the price balloons with options. The platinum elite trims you mention are no longer a pillar of value. The brand is not the same I can tell you own a car several years old at least
I used to have a '20 ilx tech a-spec (lease) and while it had an older interior, at least it had the good touch screen infotainment and a decent amount of options with decent performance for not much more cost than a civic si. After giving back my car when the term was up, the integra just came out. When the dealer told me a base integra is more money than my loaded ilx, it was time to find a new brand. Then theres the rdx that everyone says is "good value". How is $1000/month for platinum elite a good value? That ilx i had was $450/month and literally had better performance 🤦♂️.

I seriously doubt many people would shop an Acura against a Mercedes or a BMW; those who seek Acuras do so mainly for Honda's reliability. Granted, it's not what it used to be based on recent surveys, but it's still better than the Germans. If I was in the market for an Acura, I would shop it against a Lexus, or maybe certain Hondas, Toyotas or Mazdas, but never a German brand (even less so a Volvo or a Range Rover!) In fact, I'd sooner consider a Genesis/Hyundai/Kia before any European brand.
Facts. Honda and Acura for life Durability for life.
Actually I was shopping for MB and BMW but since I was broke/ short of $10k to $20k I opted for MDX.
Glad you like Genesis/Hyundai/KIA. They are great,... for barbecuing your house. Hope your local fire department is on speed dial.
. You bought a MDX after you claimed that you're broke? Interesting!
I chose my Acura over a bmw and Lexus but I was tempted to get the bmw
As an Acura owner, you bring up very good points. And 100% agree with you on the panel gaps and the lack of port injection. I still like the overall design language, but they definitely need to do more. Just look how far Genesis has progressed.
Port injection is old technology. Direct fuel injection is what everyone is going to. If you look at the top 5 car manufacturers over 60% of their cars are direct injection. Especially the new turbo cars
@@LexPenayour comment is lost on someone who thinks a luxury Hyundai is a good car. 😂
@@melissasmess2773 he's not the only one...Until Genesis' debut in the U.S. in 2016, Acura's sales were 23 times higher than Genesis. However, this gap decreased to 8.4 times in 2020 and further to 2.1 times this year. They surpassed infiniti.

I bought my 2022 MDX Tech in June 2021. It now has 22,000 miles and there have been no issues, no repairs, minimal maintenance. As you know, there was a major change to this vehicle starting with the 2022 model. After driving all the competitively priced SUVs with enough room for easily storing a wheel chair, the MDX was the most comfortable (I am 6’2’ and 220 lbs) for me and my wife, who likes to wear her hair in a pony tail and all the competition,s headrests interfered with her hair, Pushing her head forward. The car is very responsive and accelerates quickly with no lag, handles very well (especially when enjoying a great road) for a 3 row SUV, is quiet and all the electronic gizmos work well. Lane centering and radar cruise control make driving effortless, especially in heavy stop and go traffic. The sound system is also magnificent when set properly. My previous cars were Audi A 6 Avants, each kept for 200,000 miles with few repairs and minimal maintenance and the MDX does not feel like a step down in any category. I prefer it to the Audi Q7 for many reasons. I suggest you drive a New MDX and see if your issues are present in the current models. It could be that as a former race driver my driving and maintenance schedule differ from your experiences. I do agree that the infotainment is awkward but for those of us with shoulder problems it eliminates the long reach to some touch screens. Each to his own, but I can’t really trust your reviews any more.
Sounds like a decent overall reault
When I'm buying I always consider the repair bills. What I'll do is call a dealership and ask estimated bill for oil change, brakes, ball joint ect.
Back in 90’s Acura legend up there
Cheers
Bought a 2020 Acura ILX about 2 years ago and love it! 2.4L 4 cyl engine mated to a Dual clutch 8 speed automatic (201hp from the factory) retuned to about 240hp. Very fun car and gets over 30mpg combined and over 35mpg on the freeway.
Excellent car and those engines are some of Hondas and Acuras stable
I love my TLX with the 2.4L My dash says I average about 19mpg. I typically keep it in normal. What brands of oil , trans fluid do you run?
What bolt on mods do you have? It's almost impossible to gain 40HP on that middling n/a engine w/ 200 stock. Those are the gains you'd see on a turbocharged engine. Somebody fed you snake oil lol- unless you have significant engine mods and are tuned for 93 octane you do not have 240hp whatsoever. Main issue with the ILX is the junk interior (it's literally from 2013 and every review laments how dated and cheap it is) and small interior space for the segment. It never gets an above average mark from the automotive writing scene- it's too damn old! Makes no sense lol(they sell almost 0 of them today, Acuras worst selling vehicle despite being the cheapest!)

As a long term Acura customer, I think you’re missing the point. I currently own a 2023 Acura TLX Types S and a 2024 Acura MDX Type S . The reason I went with the Acura is the balance of performance and long term reliability. I have owned as a S4 , Porsches as well. Tough to beat and for the price a good value. Also keep in mind , Acura backs their warranties unlike a lot other competitors like Audi or BMW. If this just about leasing a vehicle the German cars are provide more adrenaline, but owning them is a different story.
They are wonderful vehicles and a little underrated
acura quality and reliability fell off a decade ago. Not much performance but huge exhaust tips lol
I think the Acura brand is sophisticated. Looks upscale with good light designs and great paint colors.
Indeed, some nice vehicles for sure
I like Acura being more exclusive only to North America.

Acura’s philosophy has to do with reliability and stylistic. I doubt the technology narrative because the new mdx and Rex has most modern functionality.
Bro hit the nail on the head. Acuras look like they were designed by Buick. However, I do like the RDX but I have a Lexus Hybrid and I wouldn't buy anything else if it wasn't a hybrid. Honda/Acura is letting Toyota/Lexus eat their hybrid lunch
I saw a 2023 Buick Avenir yesterday I almost thought it was an Acura but for the line that runs across the grill. They may have similar design, but Acura is more reliable than Buick.
They're also not as cheap as he's saying lol. I put within a 75mile range and lowest used 2023 Acura is $47,600. US dollars not Canadian 😆

Because it's a Civic
It’s amazing how automatic transmissions have been around for decades but many people do not know how to take care of said auto tranny by simply using the e-brake when they park. About to hit 400,000 miles on the original tranny of my 06 TL by simply doing this along a/ fluid changes. People say manuals are more reliable than autos but seeing my vehicle at 400k and how clutches generally go out by 200k made me reevaluate this belief as I gotta say auto can be just as reliable as manual if one regularly uses their e-brake w/ fluid changes.

Imma looking at a Acura rn but I’m afraid to buy it cause I got my BBL a few weeks ago and I’m not sure if it will cradle my yams properly. Any advice as to what I should do? Thank you
Never understood people who want hybrid on a large luxury car. How much are you going to save on gas? And how much are you going to spend on price premium and repairs and all that time in repairs? Reported hybrid MPG 45-50 mpg in total BS when you drive on a highway, no gas savings whatsoever on a highway.
You don't save one penny even on the small hybrid waste the time😊
Luxury buyers now surprisingly are more economy conscious
A hybrid car with the same model is usually 10k more expensive than the gas version. But you are not going to save 10k on gas until 40,000km of driving mileage. Plus for gas models you only need to do oil change, while for hybrid you need to do both oil and battery. And don’t forget the battery is going to increase your insurance cost

Back in 2003 i bought a brand-new TL based solely on reputation. It left me stranded with a blown transmission with just a few miles on the odometer. So after getting getting it fixed under warranty i traded it for a used Audi A6. That thing wasn't that reliable either, but it never left me stranded, and my commute was 80 miles/day at that time. It was also a lot more upscale in design and amenities. I looked at '23 TLX and even the gear shifter looked odd and flimsy.

just checked KBB, the Acura MDX: "Buyers will also be pleased to know that historically, the MDX has some of the strongest resale values in its class" that's a direct quote I suspect that Acura does better in that regard than all the German and American brands.
Absolutely. Higher resale than German cars without a doubt
I didnt buy civic touring manual because of 1.5 engine problems. Are there any issues with type s or type r 2.0 engine
Excellent video as always. The irony of the Automotive Industry is that the most styled cars like Range Rover, Mercedes, Lincoln Aviator, BMW, KIA and Hyundai turns out not to be the most reliable while the conservatively styled cars like Acura, Honda, Toyota and Lexus are the most reliable. I will go with conservative and drive in peace instead of sharp styling and spend time at the dealer’s office for repairs. Besides, I’m unsure of your definition of “cheap” but I just checked Autotrader and the top of the line Acura MDX is anything but cheap. It’s priced like the new and used Lexus RX 350.

That CRV that you showed in this video by far the best CRV generation. After 2003, the CRV became poorly built vehicle with burning oil issues and recently with disastrous Turbo engines. By far Lexus models are much more solidly built over any Acura. The only Acura that would consider buying is that from the 90s and early 2000s like that 2006 RSX. I am shocked Acura still around as a brand. Infiniti and Acura should be discontinued as a brand in order to save the parent company Nissan and Honda. Maybe Honda and Nissan should merge together to survive.
Yes I agree Lexus is a great brand that beats everything. Acura has its moments
I got rid of mine because the Honda/Acura transmission on the V6 models have slipping and failure problems. I experienced it on our Odyssey and RDX. We are an all Toyota/Lexus family now. Except for my 2003 S10. I would prefer a Taco as my chore truck, but the cost is way off.
I WAS a honda guy but the brand has really change and it looks like they forgot what made them what they were. I don't like the shift button but they want to force it. Is stupid. They need to do something very soon, I mean soon😢
I know that Acuras are good cars and reliable. Zero doubt about it. I have sat in a few as a passenger. My problem is, I can't stand their styling. Even Toyota is stepping up their styling and surpassing the Acura in better looking. Mazda is my new favorite for the past 3 years.
The Corolla and the Supra are just beautiful to look at ❤
Exact what I thought about Acura they cut short of the designed
The one bone head move Acura has made is not offering a touch screen. That will be changing in 25, but to think they missed the boat with their current RDX, TLX, and MDX is a real head -scratcher. Having said that, We had a 2014 MDX for 6 troubled free years. We had a 2019 RDX with 55K for 4.5 troubled free years. I am now driving a 2021 Honda Passport and the same. All I can say is they are reliable and cheap to maintain. The 3.5 V6 is great and the Seats are among the most comfortable of any car. Indeed, not a lot of panache with either brand, but they are just as loaded with features and tech as the luxury brands. My recommendation is always to buy a two year old vehicle with super low miles and under warranty. And as long as you stay with a Honda, Toyota, or any of their subbrands, you will always be OK
I like the masculine bull grills of the Benzes and some other SUV's. Not the poochy front ends of a lot of cars.
Hey all the bmw and Mercedes owner here watching this comment, also the person in this vid...is bmw showroom service better or Mercedes, like their respective people and people who gives service and handles user issues and problems?...also now currently, what do u think is better overall, bmw 3 series or Mercedes c class is better?
Damn I just bought a 1.5t civic and you hit me with this news 😪
Just keep up with maintence. Not hard
I hear the 2025 RDX is getting a big refresh... seeing as I'm still happy with my rock solid 2015 CR-V, hoping to grab that model used in 2030.
Acuras aren't ugly 😅
Who are these drivers. I have had my MDX type S for 2yrs and 11,000 miles and only issue I had was sun roof. STOP working and glass busted. Cover under warranty. It's been a great SUV
Ehh The new Acuras look gorgeous imo and yes looks are subjective but my Acura (TLX Type-S) gets many compliments from people even people who own 2x - 3x more expensive cars
Usually buy Honda/Acura. went with Toyota this time. One big reason is the transmission selector.cant stand the push buttons!
Hey acura it you cant change that dumb timing belt to chain well atleast reposition the engine to rear wheel drive for easier work.
While I was stopped at a traffic light, this guy knocked on my window and said “Everything will be alright” and left. Confused, I showed the DashCam video to my neighbor and he liked it. He rented a big projector and show the video to the entire town. Everybody clapped with joy and happiness. A big BBQ party followed soon after and three couples got marry.
They lose me on timing belt- instant death to an engine.
While a scary thought there’s no worries if one maintenances the belt every 100,000miles. If you don’t beat on the car w/ hard acceleration one could go 200,000miles on a belt like I did. Though I also credit my TL being white helping a lot as everything under the hood runs 25f cooler vs black painted ones much like how the attic of a house will be 25f cooler w/ white shingles.
My tlx has a chain
Personally my neighbor has an MDX and I think it's beautiful. I'm conservative and I'm looking for another car maybe a 2020 Acura MDX. I actually think they're good-looking because some of the new cars just look like weird especially the new Camrys and the 2025 is front end is just horrendous looking
