I've been painting for 38 years and never heard of this technique. It makes so much sense! I can't wait to try it out!
THIS is how technical instruction should be done on KZhead! Best I've seen! Valuable guidance and professionally delivered with passion for his subject. EXCELLENT!
Brian, you have no idea how much this helped me. Thank you Sir
I'm a novice but I've bought good equipment and paint for a project truck. This 100% fixed my clear issue. I really appreciate the tip because I watched hundreds of videos with zero success up until now.
Never seen that adjustment, that is helpful ! Thank you for so many years of helping the diy guys out!
Never seen that adjustment tip, thanks! So much better when you're videos are straight to the point and not trying to sell some product that the company doesn't even have prices, a distributors list and won't sell to the public.
Excellent Tip! I've come back to refresh this tip periodically and always learn something new. You deserve all of the success that has been coming your way.
Never ceases to amaze me. You can be trained, experienced, certified, confirmed, and baptized in this and there's always some guy who has a great trick. I know guys who roll their eyes when I start talking about even touching the fan. This industry is losing people and sorry but you do have some old timers unwilling to share their knowledge. Thank you Brian .
Been painting since the 90s, been around paint reps, gun reps, instructors, blah blah. It's always this gun wants wide open fan, this fluid setting, that pressure. Never seen that trick.
Yelp me neither. This is the first time ever I've seen this trick.
It makes tons of sense , I’m looking forward to sing my first full paimt on my 74 nova this summer
@@lawncuttingplusdelta Good luck man. Easiest tip I have is get a good gun. And too much clear is better than not enough.
@@nt3523 I’ve done panels with a binks #7 and got great results …
@nt3523 agree 100%. When I started years ago i started with cheap gun and my end result wasn't perfect, i upgraded to medium quality guns my finish was bettet. I then upgraded to one of the best brands for all 4 of my guns and my finish is great everytime
My son, 14 was given a 1995 Dodge Dakota with only 70000 miles, so I have 2 years to get the body work done. I ordered new front fenders, rocker panels and cab corners. These paint videos are a great help for me to give it a good looking paint job. Thankyou and happy painting.
This is a great adjustment trick for all coatings from primers to base coats. If you have Orange Peel in your Primers or Base Coats you will have it in your Clear Coats also. No matter what adjustments you use on your Clear Coat. Orange Peel is a product of several things. 1. Coating Viscosity is too thick for Fluid Needle Set being used 2. Application of too much material to substrate in an application pass 3. Air Pressure set too high 4. Air Pressure set too low 5. Fan Width set too wide or too narrow 6. Using a Fast Hardener in high temperatures 7. Using a Fluid Needle and AirCap that are dirty 8. Using a low quality gun that doesn’t atomize properly 9. Insufficient Shop Air CFM’s to maintain Optimum PSI
Hi Brian, well today I painted and cleared my tailgate. I used this method to adjust my gun,I have to thank you so very much!! I have never laid down clear so flat. I mean I usually have some peal and some nibs to wet sand but, now no peal just a few nibs!! I kept looking at the gate waiting to see a run and you are right it was right on the edge, no runs, no peal, just a few nibs. I have been watching for a couple years know and you have helped me a great deal so again thank you very much!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
This is excellent. Thank you for this! I still remember after doing a couple of finishes as perfect and flat as possible, I had to help a friend respray a fender on his wife's Buick. Got everything prepped, sprayed it all carefully. Looked awesome, went and put it on the car... hmm. The fender looked amazing, but it was clearly MUCH nicer than the rest of the car was. That's when it was clear to me, parking even my old Mazda next to the owner of the company's brand new Lexus, it was clear who had a better paint finish.
Another great learn-by example! Looking back on what I've painted so far (not a ton) I recall just fiddling with the fan and pressure settings to get where I wanted it, but now knowing a defined process for getting to that end point, you save a guy time, and cut out the 'well, maybe this works better' -- You've done it, and pass on the knowledge to us. Thank you!
Thank you for the time you take to explain this! These are the small, but bigger at the end, things that make a huge difference when we talk about painting.
I restore classics for a hobby and have only painted 6 cars-trucks. This tip gave me my best finish ever. Almost no orange peel, amazing. Love it. Thank you.
Excellent tip, I've been using a LVLP gun on custom guitar paint jobs, specifically clear coats and struggling with how to balance the fan pattern verses the air pressure on small jobs. This really helps! Thank you 😊
I am a d.i.yer here in Philippines, i learn a lot from all the videos that I'm watching that you uploaded... I am a newbie but because of what I learned from your videos I've done a good outcome in my first paint project, my motorcycle 😊😊😊...
Thank you! I am running out to the shop with a scrap fender to try this now!!! I have always struggled with orange peel. Sometimes I get a beautiful panel, and other times I have a deep orange peel that has to be sanded. I have been chasing air pressures, but now, I am hoping, I can stop chasing air pressures and just dial it in!
Always learning how to get better, thanks to you, Brian!!
20 yrs painter here in new Zealand, great tips mate we use the same bumper stands 2 but im gona use them for the guard's now after seeing how u had them, ivl got 3 iwata w 400s and been using them for years they awesome spray guns
This is a fantastic tip thank you! I used it today to setup my gun for acrylic urethane and it went on perfectly.
Been doing this for years but never realized the technicalities of what I was doing. Very cool. Thank you.
This is the 1st time I've heard of this trick. I have a quarter panel I'm spraying in a few days I might try this. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent Video!! I am a veteran painter starting in the 1970's and will start using your air fan/pressure technic! One thing I do different on actual painting panels, etc., is I paint the "jam areas" first in case a dust particle contaminates the main area...I can stop and fix it; then spray the "show-me" areas on a clean uninterrupted run!
Damn!! Gonna do this tommorrow, i did narrow the pattern recently and love the results, but had no base to judge it from, the air pressure varies in my booth so i make alot of adjustments on the fly and have to use my ear. Thanks Brian !! Love the channel!
You just help me big on figuring out why I just haven't been happy with my clear job on the last job I did when I know I did everything right and could not figure out how to get rid of orange peels now I know my fluid wasn't set to wide open and my fan was to wide and my psi was to high. Was proud that there where no runs but still wasn't happy and I even used the finish 1 and I was completely lost and borderline discouraged until I see. This video. Thanks brother your awesome
Thank you for sharing yet more valuable knowledge Brian
Doing a proper paint job is pure art.. Learned it the hard way. Thanks to this channel for the great guides.
Glad to help
Really good tip it works on my gti
long time viewer here been following your process here Slow is the new fast ! i have had a issue here which has brought my confidence down i always dry peel so today it was a lovely 55F dry morning in the shade , i had a nice prepped bonnet everything was followed by the book , was respraying my bonnet due to 5 to 6 rock chips just like your viewer video with the Porsche anyway ended up doing the blend with the base gave about 8 to 10 min to flash and go matte i mixed my clear up before hand and heated it up to a lovely toasty 80F so it could flow out well with out having to use to much reducer ended up going with 5% so paint was on the thicker side did my first coat of clear just like your glossy hood video i got it on pretty heavy but could see a tiny bit of dry area it was like glass , waited as per tech sheet plus a extra 5 min as it was cool with my medium speed activator got my 2nd coat of clear on , watched the paint dry for 45min she all looked great 6 hours later and it has got solvent pop over it , most stuff was done by the book and activator was slow for the cool morning , it was left to dry in the shade in 65F weather as it heated up a touch since morning :(
Such art Brian. You're killing it on paint society
Thank you bro for the time you put into these videos. I am a painter in a dealership. Theres so many basic things i never learned that you do demos on. The proper gun settings have helped and made a big difference. Your videos on blends, silver metallic blends in paticular have helped me change my approach. Keep doing what your doing😎😎 mad luv from Detroit Mi.
Hi. Thanks for the message! I’m glad these tricks help because I once learned them all and made a big difference in my life. Whenever I learned a new trick I was so eager to try it out the next day.
Greatest channel of all time, keep up the good work my man.
Thank you so much for this paint gun adjustment method.
And of course, thank you so much for making this video. You have given me the confidence to tackle my 66 mustang that I had since 2001, it's my first car
I also run my fluid needle in to prevent an excessively wet fan. Nice to see someone on KZhead doing things properly and mentioning the importance of TDS.
love your easy explanation on all things paint. helpful beyond belief. Thank you
Incredible tip! Just tried this today and have got the best clear coat finish I’ve ever done 😂👍🏻
Thank you. I never knew how to adjust a gun like that. I can't wait to experiment with it. Learning is always awesome.
Thank you for the videos. I bought the 3m accuspray because of your review. Setting up my garage to do small jobs.
Tried this today and got a noticeable improvement on the finish. Thanks for sharing
Ive been painting cars for 40 plus yrs and never to old to learn. You are the teacher i use. Thanks for all tips you give. I use them and always improve. Great video
That is awesome!
Uncle Tony : there is a lot of snake oils out there today the old 3-in1 oil, Marvel oil mystery oil, and WD-40 been using all three oils for the past 74 years because it’s what I used with my Dad! Actually WD-40 I think came out in the early 60s and it was new to both my Dad and I it’s amazing how many oils there are and the differences on what they can be used! Thanks for taking the time to ferret these things out! One of the things that the marvel Mystery oil was good for especially as a body man and fabricator in my line of work was keeping all of my Air tools oiled before using them! Just a couple of drops before every use has made most of all of them last through a lifetime of use! And I still use them to this day over 70 years later! 👍
You rock, I have been painting hobby style for 30 years and I learn so much from you.
Thank you sir for the tip. I started in auto body in 1974 and still at it. Never knew this trick and will try it out next paint session.
Thanks so much for this advice. I can't wait to ty it out. Great video!! Nice finish by the way. Looks terrific.
Been watching your channel for awhile now, I have been painting cars on and off over the years as a hobby. Always learning from you keep up the good work 👌 greeting from Scotland 🏴
I'll be trying this trick out in a few weeks. Almost ready to paint and clear coat my vw. Loving the knowledge on the vids. Keep in coming 👍
Hey Brian i just tried this trick and i used it on the base coat and clear and the finish come out so flat its the best i have ever pulled off!! thanks agin your am amazing teacher !!
Awesome. I've been looking for something this informative on this subject for a while. Thank you.
Brian, thank you for laying it out step by step. Looking forward to trying this out!
Hope you enjoy it!
I've never heard or seen this technique done before, but I will definitely try it out . Thank you, great video .
The painter that taught me how to paint with the ultra 9k system always would have me just put the gun really close to the panel and move fast to avoid runs , will say every job came out looking slick!
Another great tip Brian! Thank you for all of your expertise! You are a great teacher!
I appreciate that!
This is solid advice I just tried out this technique and it worked flawlessly with my iwata ws400.
This is a great tip , and it should take the guess work out of my settings . Thank you Brian
Really glad im a subscriber, learnt more here than just about anywhere else, This really comes in handy, cant wait to try it
How do you manage to check all the boxes when it comes to painting content! Excellent work my dude!
Such a vital piece of knowledge I have ever heard in a long time 🔥💯👌🏽👍🏾 thank you so much Brian, much love & Respect.
Your setting is real. Not like other painter. By doing what you say it give me a best result. No one at all is telling about this settings. Thank you very much sir. Respact you.
That was the best lesson I have seen can’t wait to try that out. Thank you
Thank you for this tip im sanding my whole car with 800 on the clear that I already did and I'm going to reclear the whole car again can't wait to see the finished product
I have learned a lot from watching your videos. I wish I had known this trick when I painted the roof on my truck 2 days ago. I will definitely be trying this technique next time I paint.
Thank you I've learned alot from you paint our gto and I'm getting real close to painting the whole car can't wait thanks again
Thank you! I will be using this instruction today.. always good stuff Brian
We enjoyed your presentation as it is very logical. In our experience, we found that paint viscosity is the most critical element when applying a glass finish to body parts.
This is one reason why I watch, I am always learning, and its better than any book.
Nice job it came out looking amazing! With the way cars are being painted from the factory we will definitely be needing to increase the orange peel from our finish because every year factory paint jobs are looking worse and worse 😆
Thanks for the info. Great job.
I have watched this video a few times, and I find it a great reference to sharpen my skills
20 years as a painter and you're still dropping knowledge on me, love the vids!
Love to hear comments like this. Most people are too proud to admit when they learn something new !
@PaintSociety what's even cooler is that I use the iwata l400 for clear, just pulled a Benz in the booth and gonna tweak my settings and see how it does.
@@joe2.017 let me know !
@PaintSociety dude, it turned out awesome! Driver side of a 22 Benz, incredibly clean and the clear layed down like glass! Also used your tip for 10% reduction on my second coat of clear, thanks for the tips
Man this feels great to hear!!!
Brian, You obviously are very talented. Do any your videos offer advise on spraying single stage paint?
Best practice. To avoid getting overspray onto your main surface areas you should always coat your edges first.
I thought the same as You, when i saw this vid :) but they still doing great with these vids :)
@@looper451 You don't know what you're talking about son.
If you watch he did this with the pearl coat.
@@lagunafishingAre you even a painter? Tijuana el speciale $99 panels?
@@jamesofallthings3684 All my 50 years working life. You?
Best video ever on paint gun adjustment
Just added a 1.2 astro touch up gun to my kit and after spraying clear for the first time it seems to do this by default at wide open because of the already narrower/tighter spray patter and more restricted flow through the gun. Definitely got a couple runs as I wasn't used to that wet of a fan but I can see it working like magic once I've had some time on it!
Brilliant once again 👏
Thanks for the video very helpful been painting for forty years and allways had trouble getting it exactly right, hit or miss blaming air pressure, gun, ect. ect. Thanks again brother very helpful going to blend a fusion and a Hyundai sometime today and looking forward to trying this trick out.
Thanks for the tips! I learn something new every day. 👍🔥🔥
Thanks Brian--always awesome information!!
Thanks for the great tip Brian!
I'm about to give it a shot. Thanks for the info Paint Professor Brian!
Your the man Brian!👍🏻
Thanks for the tip... going to definitely try it next time I paint.
Finally, I knew their had to be a trick they never show us. Can't wait to test this trick out when the weather gets better over here in the Chicago area.
I have learned alot of good things from this Paint Society Chanel ! And I like this trick of paint gun settings! Thanks for your time and teaching .
Congratulations 🎉 you're selected among our shortlisted giveaway Contest kindly message us ☝️☝️😊😊😊 Thanks For Your Support all this years
Sweet! im right in the middle of spraying a 70 Superbee. I always set my gun up before spraying but did not now about this little tip. will be spraying the engine compartment and trunk area in the next week so i will practice these settings there before moving on to the body.
This video has been very helpful to me. Thank you!!
Just sprayed my wing today, although the base coat turned out great, the orange peel on the clear is horrendous, I will try this tip! I also didn’t realise how many passes you had to do so will try this as well! Cheers for the video!
Brian, you are absolutely by far my favorite KZheadr when it comes to this profession but not limited to. I just can't express by words my gratitude for what you have been passing to us these last years, I just want to say : keep up the great work! P.S :. Absolutely a must have trick for those who want to mimic a flatter finish (be it OEM or custom)
Thank you Alex for the kind words!!!
@@PaintSociety My utmost honor!
😊😊
Always enjoy your videos. Very informative.
Great video Thanks for sharing I have been using your tips and techniques from your videos and it has helped me out greatly 👍🏽
Very cool, I always did this without realizing I could see it in the pressure gauge. Just looked at the pattern when it began to narrow stop. Is it still true that reducer speed also helps reduce orange peel, maybe even more so? Thanks.
I’ve been painting since the 90’s and I think I’ve done this subconsciously by listing to the air change. I’m going to try this to see if it lines up with how I generally adjust.
Thank you so much for this trick...been spraying for years stopped for a few years trying to get back into it...n you help out alot
GREAT VID! I've painted a ton of stuff in my day. I've painted with 55 gallons of paint on boat super structures and never seen this method. I have a 69 Mach 1 I'm doing...I'll be doing this on the last coats for sure. I don't have a booth so it's hard to keep it dirt free but I'll sand the color coat before the clear so I can sand the clear if I have to. Thank big time for this tip!
Never seen that before. Thanks. Gonna give it a try.
Good job Brian 👏🏼
thank you brian this really helped me out, im about to go try this right now
Great tip to adjust the pressures of spray guns!
WOW you took the guess work out, great man thank you.
