in this video i made a cool bow with my brother from a stick we found in the woods and a shoelace
Gus Johnson plays all sorts of characters, from Mitchell Robbins to JK Rowling to some guy in God's Country to Imbiamba Jombes to filming videos with his mom to pillow guy to the my pool guy to small town reviews to how they use shotguns in movies to the tough kid growing up to your friend who has a knife to spotify ad guy to the how they use shotgun to the gus johnson shotgun to if i was frozone... I don't know why I am writing this in third person. I am Gus. I wrote this. My brother is Sven Johnson, that guy's alright. Guys, if you put all this dumb stuff in the description, it helps your videos. isn't that wild?
Thanks for watching and sharing! Don't stab people. I'll see you later.
The wound is definitely getting worse but I'm still alive right now tbh
Thank you for dying for realism

Alive right now minus 20 minutes
Yoooo only 4 likes!
Those armpit wounds are slow killers
Well Sven is obviously a main character. Arrows and bullets don’t instantly kill main characters like they do unnamed goons. Everyone knows that.
Yeah, its so obvious
Unnamed goon takes a bullet in the stomach: Immediate death Main character takes a bullet in the stomach: Apply pressure and walk it off
Ahaha yeah he took those arrows like a total Boromir
Can't argue with that logic
As a gooner, I can confirm this, boss.
“How many arrows do you have in that quiver?!!?!!” “I’ve got 57 more goddamn arrows in this 20 arrow quiver”……*ejects an arrow from his bow*
Beat me to it!! 🤣 After Sven said that, I totally thought Gus was gonna say the rest of that
He should have drawn the bow back as if cocking it and an arrow should have ejected from the quiver
@@idrinkyourmilkshake1882 Since pumping a shotgun is a double mechanism to load a new shell and reject a spent one, this is technically correct The best kind of correct

Reminds of how in a lot of medieval movies and shows, the main characters always slice and stab at their opponent wearing steel plate armour with a sword and it slices like they were wearing a thin cloth as protection. They don't go for weak points like the armpits, they go straight for where they're wearing the most protection.
Lol yeah, heavy swords could crush bones though through armor.
Literally the only movie scene I ever saw that had realistic armour that didn’t get cut through like butter was some Macbeth film from the 1970s it’s not just a lot it’s basically all of them
Yeah. I heard medieval knights and soldiers didn't even clash swords that often since it risked wrecking the swords. Clashing swords is only really done in fencing. No way that would have risked their swords uselessly clashing them against armor.
@@SurprisinglyDeep I mean... I would understand that outside of combat but... using the sword in battle is the point of the sword in the first place??? No way you could fight someone with a sword and not clash metal with it. Unless your opponent is unarmed and unarmored. They definitely clashed swords.
@@guano524 While the combatants did clash sword to sword as well as sword to shield and sword to metal out of necessity, a combatant tried to keep that to a minimum since it risked breaking their sword. They mostly focused on swipes and stabs at the weak parts of the opponent's armor
Forgot the scene where they're threatening the main characters "at gun point" with fully drawn bows for 15 minutes.
Swole archers never get tired arms lmao
That's exactly what I was gonna comment :D.
And the fact that it's not a hairy muscular big man, but instead a woman. Women always have bows in every movie for some reason :D
@@Honne1064 so weird that it's seen as a weapon for the weak, when it's quite literally the opposite. Pretty much only the strongest men could fully draw a war bow.
there's that Game of Thrones game that's in the same "Choose your path" style as the walking dead games. One scene you literally do this, you surprise the enemy in a tight room with a bunch of archers aiming at them, with orders to shoot anyone who moves but like, what if they just all move at once and you don't hit them? It's a tight room, you won't have time to aim a second shot

Every one of these is accurate, but also you missed the other big one - the "I'm gonna draw the bow and hold that position for like an entire conversation and have no difficulty holding it"
Yeah! Which is what I liked about one old dude being unable to hold the drawn bow in the second LotR movie, during the Battle of Helm’s Deep.
@@DanAndHoe yeah, but them drawing and holding made no sense anyway.
You really must watch the latest Predator movie just for laughs... Literally every 2nd scene has the natives stalking around with their "bows" at 3/4 to full draw! Hilarious, yet painful to watch :/
At the range tonight I could only hold good form on a compound bow holding like 15 pounds at draw for about a minute and change before I broke down.
I mean, I kinda accept when the elves in the LOTR movies do it, because they are elves. I mean if they have magical ropes like the one Sam got, then whatever, I believe everything. But the same movies also have humans doing it, so yeah... .
Clearly every arrow fired at anyone in any movie ever has gone into everyone's brain. Even if it was through their torso.
even then, plenty of people survive objects piercing their brains!
If its in the torso, then it hit both the heart and the spinal cord
Those are clearly 9mm arrows. They instantly remove the lung from the body.
Kevin Costner: What are you trying to tell me? That I can curve arrows? Morgan Freeman: No, Robin. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready... you won't have to.
I don't think you guys realize the severity of damage that an arrow causes if it hits the torso even........

@@zed_2ed929 you just roll in from Twitter or something? No one gives a shit about your drama addiction.
Ha
Imagine a movie that wasn't like this. The guys kept coming even after a couple arrows, that sounds more like a video game tho
Or some kind of medieval snuff porn.
Dunno how willing you are to keep on fighting with an arrow sticking out of your belly, even if it'll take days to kill you. I bet it still hurts a lot, and most people don't shrug off pain like a protagonist can. I would rather imagine a movie where a lot of people are just lying on the ground screaming in agony, or making a run for it while bleeding out, or crawling to cover with their wounds :D
@@puppyenemy To be honest, being shot with an arrow was most likely to happen in the middle ages. My point, though, is that most if not everyone was religious back then, and weren't as shocked or worried about dying, and death happened often so people were mostly desensitized. Contrarily, adrenaline in a fight dulls pain receptors, especially if you *are* worried about dying. Often, even fabric armor (aka gambeson) was enough to stop the arrow from entering very deep, which is easy to fight through in that case. Rarely even a 200 lb warbow could pierce plate armor tho. Additionally, in medieval combat manuscripts, there were scenarios written out for the case that an opponent is stabbed all the way through and continues to fight. Which is also why in HEMA, after landing a hit, you must make sure to block during your retreat and defend from you oppenent while you wait for them to collapse from their injuries. Because pain, especially intense pain, is largely a delayed reaction. Hollywood logic is further from reality than you may think. If you ever try to objectively look at a hollywood fight in slow motion through the lens of practicality, unless you're desensitised the the holes in it, it really is played up majorly for the camera and a terrible way to fight usually. (sorry for the tangential book)
@@supersolomob422 I get the endorphin rush and everything, but also there's a good chance that one with an arrow in them recognizes intellectually that they are likely to die of infection. Not to mention it takes a while for those endorphins to rush in the first place. Plus, there's still real damage there and a shot to your torso would've made it hard to walk, not to mention a shot to the leg or knee. I could see maybe last stands being made, but not at "halt thief" video game city guard levels of continuing to operate.
@@fluidthought42 Definitely not able to continue as well, but they can continue. There's a reason they targeted the underarms, wrists, back of the knee and Achilles heel. Because those are all areas that, when cut, stop a lot of muscles from functioning and end the fight immediately since the opponent can't continue to fight back almost at all. Whereas, literally being stabbed through the torso, they of course realized they were already dead, so they most likely were like "I'll take you down with me then". Also, they most likely already had a lot of adrenaline in their system, since the rush most likely starts when the encounter does. You can ask anyone who survived a gunshot, they didn't really feel it at first, they often describe it as a large ache all around the area. It's beneficial for the brain to eliminate the distraction of pain when you're that badly hurt, so you're more focused on survival
Duh, they were all minor characters. A protagonist can just rip out an arrow and carry on with no pain, muscle damage or blood loss.
Historically accurate.

Until some point where he finally gets hit in the shoulder, the arrow missing all his vitals so he's still fine anyway
Unless he's the tragic mentor/love interest/rival turned friend, then he gets hit in the chest and calls the rest of the cast over for a short speech before he dies (which only happens if the wound causes them to cough up blood, otherwise they'll be fine)

@@whoknows5804 I was a different man 9 months ago, cut me a little slack 😔
This reminds me of the saga of Tormod Kolbrunarskald. He was a viking that took part in the battle of Stiklestad in Norway and was mortally wounded. He spent a long time after the battle at an inn, helping with tending to other wounded with an arrow in his chest. After a while he was fed oinion soup. The innkeeper could smell onion from his wound, so he knew Tormod could not be saved. Tormod then pulled out the arrow himself, knowing that he would die. On the arrowhead he could see his heartroots that had been torn out. Tormod then said "My heartroots are fat! The king has fed me well!" and then he died in his chair. Fun stuff!
You forgot that they conveniently run out of arrows right when the bad guys are on their ass.
They always reach for the quiver to only grasp air lmao
"Öh ok i'll wait!" xP As someone who does archery as a hobby sometimes, this is something that annoys me in movies for sure. Ive timed myself, with my 45lb recurve, "dumping" arrows in a general direction (still full draw), to loose each arrow took about 4-5 seconds. And thats without doing any proper aiming really. Im no "Speedshooter" though, so I know people can do it way faster if they practise that specifically.
Reminds me of the shotgun video. Love your videos.

alright to heck with it, Im just gonna say it. Gus was completely upstaged by his own hat and I am FURIOUS but also thats a really nice hat I mean c'mon
Sometimes people die instantly, sometimes they Boramir up and suck up all the arrow damage, and keep on ticking.

It takes a hot sec to draw a bow with an arrow. I've been getting into archery. It is actually pretty fun.
Archery is great! Depending on the bow you use it is possible to shoot something like 10 arrows in 5 seconds but sure that won't work for a very powerful bow or if you have to hit something in the distance.
Can we appreciate the fact that Gus and Sven actually traveled to a parallel universe where they are ambiguous and probably historically inaccurate mythical characters for this video?
