in this video i made a cool bow with my brother from a stick we found in the woods and a shoelace
Gus Johnson plays all sorts of characters, from Mitchell Robbins to JK Rowling to some guy in God's Country to Imbiamba Jombes to filming videos with his mom to pillow guy to the my pool guy to small town reviews to how they use shotguns in movies to the tough kid growing up to your friend who has a knife to spotify ad guy to the how they use shotgun to the gus johnson shotgun to if i was frozone... I don't know why I am writing this in third person. I am Gus. I wrote this. My brother is Sven Johnson, that guy's alright. Guys, if you put all this dumb stuff in the description, it helps your videos. isn't that wild?
Thanks for watching and sharing! Don't stab people. I'll see you later.

  • Reminds of how in a lot of medieval movies and shows, the main characters always slice and stab at their opponent wearing steel plate armour with a sword and it slices like they were wearing a thin cloth as protection. They don't go for weak points like the armpits, they go straight for where they're wearing the most protection.

I bet it still hurts a lot, and most people don't shrug off pain like a protagonist can. I would rather imagine a movie where a lot of people are just lying on the ground screaming in agony, or making a run for it while bleeding out, or crawling to cover with their wounds :D

      @puppyenemy@puppyenemy2 жыл бұрын
    • @@puppyenemy To be honest, being shot with an arrow was most likely to happen in the middle ages. My point, though, is that most if not everyone was religious back then, and weren't as shocked or worried about dying, and death happened often so people were mostly desensitized. Contrarily, adrenaline in a fight dulls pain receptors, especially if you *are* worried about dying. Often, even fabric armor (aka gambeson) was enough to stop the arrow from entering very deep, which is easy to fight through in that case. Rarely even a 200 lb warbow could pierce plate armor tho. Additionally, in medieval combat manuscripts, there were scenarios written out for the case that an opponent is stabbed all the way through and continues to fight. Which is also why in HEMA, after landing a hit, you must make sure to block during your retreat and defend from you oppenent while you wait for them to collapse from their injuries. Because pain, especially intense pain, is largely a delayed reaction. Hollywood logic is further from reality than you may think. If you ever try to objectively look at a hollywood fight in slow motion through the lens of practicality, unless you're desensitised the the holes in it, it really is played up majorly for the camera and a terrible way to fight usually. (sorry for the tangential book)

    • @@supersolomob422 I get the endorphin rush and everything, but also there's a good chance that one with an arrow in them recognizes intellectually that they are likely to die of infection. Not to mention it takes a while for those endorphins to rush in the first place. Plus, there's still real damage there and a shot to your torso would've made it hard to walk, not to mention a shot to the leg or knee. I could see maybe last stands being made, but not at "halt thief" video game city guard levels of continuing to operate.

      @fluidthought42@fluidthought42 Жыл бұрын
    • @@fluidthought42 Definitely not able to continue as well, but they can continue. There's a reason they targeted the underarms, wrists, back of the knee and Achilles heel. Because those are all areas that, when cut, stop a lot of muscles from functioning and end the fight immediately since the opponent can't continue to fight back almost at all. Whereas, literally being stabbed through the torso, they of course realized they were already dead, so they most likely were like "I'll take you down with me then". Also, they most likely already had a lot of adrenaline in their system, since the rush most likely starts when the encounter does. You can ask anyone who survived a gunshot, they didn't really feel it at first, they often describe it as a large ache all around the area. It's beneficial for the brain to eliminate the distraction of pain when you're that badly hurt, so you're more focused on survival

He spent a long time after the battle at an inn, helping with tending to other wounded with an arrow in his chest. After a while he was fed oinion soup. The innkeeper could smell onion from his wound, so he knew Tormod could not be saved. Tormod then pulled out the arrow himself, knowing that he would die. On the arrowhead he could see his heartroots that had been torn out. Tormod then said "My heartroots are fat! The king has fed me well!" and then he died in his chair. Fun stuff!

    • Archery is great! Depending on the bow you use it is possible to shoot something like 10 arrows in 5 seconds but sure that won't work for a very powerful bow or if you have to hit something in the distance.
