“You don’t know what you want until I give it to you.” So true, Taika.
Channeling Steve Jobs
I didn't know I wanted Thor to be a slapstick comedy, but Taika was certainly right about that with Ragnarok. It just works, and Hemsworth proved to a surprisingly adept comedic actor whose talents were wasted in the first two Thor movies.
@@DasFlashyMan Ragnarok is stupid move. Thor's friends died, then there is a joke, Asgard is destroyrd, then there is a joke, Thor is sent to slavery, then there is a joke. Basically, after every war crime in that movie there is a joke.
@@DasFlashyMan Since Guardians, it's all tongue-in-cheek, self effacing, inside jokey - derivative.
"You get the full Hems' Worth!" *A MAN OF THE PEOPLE EVERYONE*
That was super uncomfortable. Imagine if, instead of Thor, it was Jane naked.
@@goranmilic442 You're right. I think maybe after we spend some thousands of years under a matriarchy where men are viewed as lesser beings, systematically sexually victimized, physically weakened, and oppressed like women have been historically so far, people will be more inclined to think of it the same way. Until then, men are in a privileged position in society and do not have to live in constant fear of the kind that women do, so it's not the same thing.
@@Tuilelen What you're saying is terrible. Men and women should be equal. Right here, right now. We can't spend thousands of years under matriarchy, because people only live 80 years. Which means you can't blame today's men for entire history, because they weren't alive then. It's a terrible idea that, if one group of humans oppressed other group, other group should now oppressed the first.
Stormbreaker being the jealous GF slowly creeping up on Thor is the best.
I think Thor's reaction, like a well-meaning but naughty golden retriever being caught in the act, is even funnier.

Ms Marvel is fantastic so far. I'd recommend that, too.

Ever since seeing What We Do in The Shadows and Ragnarok, Taika has become my new favorite director. He's got the comedic chops of Mel Brooks, easily the best comedic director working right now, and yet he can do drama and action just as well as any of the best working right now. Not to mention his writing and acting are on point, dude is a triple threat.
Jo jo Rabbit was super cute! Loved it

Literally came to the comment section to see if anyone else noticed that he recited the myth wrong. I hate when famous people act like they know what they're talking about and then thousands of people get misinformed and will probably never know the real story. I know it shouldn't upset me that much but Loki means a lot to me and I've always felt like Taika never respected the character.
@@mariadenz3841 Those that want to find Loki will find him. I'm really not concerned.
right. Loki got pregnant by another horse, not a serpent. I think Taika just changed the story a bit to make it more appealing to the audience, or he got the mythology stories mixed up where Loki births the world serpent Jörmungandr
Taika is charismatic and brilliant. JoJo Rabbit was a stroke of comic genius and What We Do In The Shadows is the funniest current series on TV
Absolutely! The original 'What we do in the Shadows' film is an absolute riot. All of NZ comedy greats. I'm sure you've seen it.
While I absolutely agree, the What We Do In The Shadows TV show is not Taika's but Jemaine Clement's, he's the creator!
@@toobasaurus23 yes indeed. It made a surprising and delightful transition to TV - the humor is very dry and if you have been watching promos on the FX we now have baby Colin which is already hilarious. @@carolinehaf21 the creator is actually David Jenkins, not Taika! But I do agree that the show is amazing and definitely worth watching
Taika is amazing. Everything he touches is gold.
As if
Taika is clearly a creative comedian first and foremost. Really reminds me of a chirpy fella I went to school with in Christchurch, himself now a creative and the drummer of No Broadcast. You can see he has an unstructured, responsive and self-assured approach to the interview. He's not there with any talking points, it's a conversation for the benefit of the crowd.
I am lucky enough to have spent some weeks in New Zealand. I am not at all surprised that that such a beautiful place has wonderful people. I found them to be warm, witty and open, like Taika.
Taika, in the handful of interviews I've seen him do, gives off a real vibe of, "I'm doing this to entertain _myself_ first," which is broadcast poison so much of the time, but utterly hilarious if you're of a similar sense of humour. He seems so comfortable in his own skin, it's a joy to experience vicariously.
You guys got to rename places.
Absolutely love taika! He seems more like a wingman to Chris than a director. Anything this man is in seems to be gold, really happy to have him on Love and Thunder:))
if he said that about a female actor would he sound like a "wingman"
Taika is the best famous person you could ever meet. I've been his server twice and my friend was his assistant and he remembered me each time we met.... probably because I was fangirling each time...
Extra dry martini. Why dilute with vermouth...
I was actually done with Thor, until Ragnarok. Best movie ever and can't wait for this one and Chris Hemsworth is a good actor.

Ragnarok is my favorite Marvel movie, easily. It’s fun and manic and a bit silly, like a comic book should be. Looking forward to the new film and I’m extremely interested in what he will do with Star Wars.
Last fight kzhead.info/sun/oMymkbeBiXqKjK8/bejne.html
For me it's Guardians of the Galaxy, but yes - the marvel movies are best when they let themselves be silly. Trying to play Marvel's Thor straight is a ridiculous idea and the reason why the first two movies were among the worst MCU films.
You've never read a Thor comic in your life. His comics are more serious than Nolan's Batman movies.
When Thor is naked Taika is just like "Youre welcome." 😂
Oddly enough, Hel (Hela in comics and Marvel movie) is actually Loki's daughter, not Odin's per Norse mythology. Also, the giant black wolf in Thor Ragnarok named Fenris is known as Fenrir in Norse mythology and is Loki's son and Hel's brother. Loki also fathered a serpent (known as the World Serpent Jormungandr) and the eight-legged horse Taika mentions. He's quite the dad.
I love Taika! I love how playful and fun he is! He’s got a great accent and such a fun personality. He’s the kinda guy I wish I could have over for a bbq. I very much enjoyed what he did with Thor Ragnarok and I’m looking forward to seeing this next Thor film.
You can really tell how comfortable guests are with Colbert vs other interviewers and I really appreciate that. Taika seems to be genuinely comfortable and enjoying himself here more than he is in a lot of other interviews I’ve seen, so he really gets to shine!
Despite Stephen mispronouncing his name.
@04:13, the Horse (Sleipnir) actually did show up in the MCU, in Thor 1, when Odin goes to save Thor in the Frost* Giant world (Jotunheim)! That's the only time if I can recall, the Horse shows up in the MCU!

One of my favorite directors, Taika is awesome.
No, Sleipner, the eight-legged horse was bred non-inter-species by Loke (correctly) turning into an alluring mare, succesfully tempting a uniquely strong workhorse into the forrest, and he only came out of that forrest a year later, bringing little Sleipner with him. No serpent involved. Loke did that to prevent the builder who had that workhorse from finishing the wall on time, hence avoiding to have to bestow upon the builder Freya as a bride - as on other occasions, Freya was the prize routinely asked for and promised. The Gods never remembered to ask for her consent until she VERY FIRMLY did NOT give it and they had to find a way out. Next time it happened, Thor had to play the part of Freya at her wedding. Yes, I'd like to see that too. Loke never had intercourse with a snake, but with the woman Angrbotha he FATHERED a serpent, one who stretched around the whole world, the Midgaard worm. He also fathered a giant wolf, Fenris, and Hel. Oh, and according to RIck Riordan, he also gave birth to Alex Fierro. They'd be very welcome to the franchise, too.
Glad somebody corrected him. I hate when famous people act like experts on something and then get the facts all wrong.
It’s neat to see how much more comfortable he is in interviews compared to a couple of years ago. Whenever I see him on something, I click!

Colbert's funny bones as an interviewer makes him enjoyable with almost any guest. But when comics come around or other celebrities who are funny in their personal life, just provides fun and relax content. Taika along with few others who you can see that didn't came there with thinking about what he is going to talk about ( we know Marvel press tour is always games and not talking about the movie) just pure entertainment by being him self. Colbert is just adding to the admiration and as a fan ask fun questions. It was like a comic bit. He said in the first minute when answering about the pattern of taking shots of the buts, that someone calls that a fetish, he calls it art. From there on it was just a fun ride. I don't even know why I am writing this long butt like comment when everyone else is already saying it was fun, but it was fun while typing it as well. So I do me. :)
