5 ft 9 and plays defencmen, you not gonna see it very often, especially at this level of competition, he is bit underrated in my opinion, good stick handler, has speed and quite a hard shot even thought his size, and don't forget he plays great defence too. love to see when small players are managing to overcome obstacles to reach their dreams to play the game at highest level, spurgeon is one of those guys

I don’t think you know how underrated spurgeon is, he’s a top 7 dman in the NHL and no one acknowledges him, insane offensively and defensively, great shot, amazing skating, great on the powerplay, just amazing

Alchemilk idk about top seven but he’s definitely underrated. he’s like top 20 in my opinion

Cuyler Penrod hes easily top 7, was first among dmen in expected additional wins of value (Expected Wins Above Replacement) which is a stat that attempts to remove luck from that, there is no reason he isn’t top 7 at the least, other than points which shouldn’t be used a primary measure of skill

Spurgeon is the most underrated player in the league, he’s easily a top 7 dman, and the only reason he’s not higher is because he’s not good on the penalty kill, but he’s insane offensively and defensively, great shot, great on the powerplay, and no one even mentions him, when I mean insane I mean insane insane he’s elite,

That second goal is a tough goal to give up as a goalie. With it being tipped by his own defenseman I can see how he could be surprised by the shot but the fact was he came off his post.

Whoever runs this page...not putting a defenseman natural hat trick as a GOTTA SEE IT highlight---that's a Dang-It! The last one before this was Justin Faulk two years ago, but before that, you have to go to Dustin Byfuglien in 2007 and then Al MacInnis twice in the 1990s.

it means you score three goals in a row and in that span no other player scores goal(doesn't matter if it is player's team or opposite)

3 uninterrupted goals by the same player. So if Edmonton were to score between one of Spurgeon's goals, it would not be a natural hat trick.
