Badly needed: an interview with João!
That would be lovely!
Joāo is the Brandon on Trent and Allie to the Newbys ❤Like the fifth member of the KZhead family ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Fred, we will check in with Joao and see if he is happy to do something like this. Thanks for the support friend 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Completely agree. Online classes with him too in gardening and all things homestead. He’s got the knowledge so many need and are looking for!
So much knowledge at such a young age.
Once again I simply can not get over how Sawyer has grown up, talking, helping. And then there is his big brother who will be able to build his own home by the age of SIX, Caruso is AMAGING. You and JOhn are exemplary parents.
He has grown up so quickly friend, he has the best example to follow. Thank you for your lovely comment about our boys, you are too sweet ❤️❤️
The chicken running after you is hilarious!😂 The farm is getting more and more beautiful every day ❤❤.
They are so funny Tina 😂 thanks for all your love ❤️❤️
I had to stop this right at the beginning to say that my most favorite clip is Sawyer stepping from the pouring rain and that smile blooming from his startles face!!!!
So special isn't it Mary 🤗❤️🙏🏼
It was delightful! Such an innocent and sweet smile 😊
I love how Sadza and co follow you. Crusoe is always so happy helping you two in no matter what you are building or growing and Sawyer is growing up so quickly. Have a lovely day.
Looking fantastic! Love the chickens following you. Crusoe is such a great little helper. Love how you let him help and learn.
Thanks Renee, the chickens always come running when we walk in that direction haha thanks for the support friend 🌾🪵🔨❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
What a difference that porch and walled flower bed make! Just incredible. Well done!!!
From my hospital bed always keeping a smile on my face , thank you beautiful newbys ❤❤❤❤

😂😂 we are so glad we could make you laugh Heather! Thanks so much for watching friend 🌾🪵🔨❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Awe, Crusoe, my favorite little man.😅 He is always helping and busy, so cute. Thanks for the update. It is always so nice when I see your videos appear. Love it🎉🎉
Thanks Melinda 🌾🪵🔨❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
You can plant your Patty pants. Some may some don't. But the ones that grow will help you with some more seeds. 🎉
That shot of the chicken running behind you was the best!❤
Love how you involve your boys in your projects!
Thank you Diana ❤️❤️
Nothing you put your heart and soul in will never be ugly remember it was built in love 🥰
Tiles on the stairs might be SLIPPERY when wet! Maybe unglazed tiles? Also, try keeping Sawyer up for afternoon nap. 😆
Hello Newby family, already Wednesday my, my time flies, and Friday your last video from India. Step by step, (no pun intended)😂 John finishing the porch along the way to your extention to the Stone House, all in the family, more work for you Tara, planting coming soon for your garden will you finish your outside pizza oven in time. Enjoying all your labour of love. Have beautiful end of week. Encouraging you all, keep on going. Hugs to you all, Crusoe, Sawyer and Joao there to help you all🥰🙏💖🌹🌄👏👱👶🏡🇵🇹
Hello Joanne, Happy Wednesday! Thank you for supporting us through all our projects, we appreciate you. Sending you lots of love and hugs 🌾🪵🔨❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
You guys are so precious! The boys are so much fun to watch...Tara, you and John are such hard workers. The young man that helps you is so sweet! Get plenty of rest too! Can't wait to watch your videos...cheers!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@melissahintz1267 yes, Melissa lots of rest, truly they are hard workers. The little boys are sweethearts and Joao is so helpful. Great to see them and thanks for your response. Many blessings to you and yours ☺️🥰🙏💖
By the time my son was 6 months old, he was waking 10 times per night and I was exhausted. I took him to visit my family for a couple weeks and he was disrupting the whole household….one sibling and my father working full time jobs, two siblings attending school and my mother with a big house and yard to keep up. My folks had a big cedar walk-in closet so we pushed my son’s crib in there one night and closed the door. He was well fed and warm, clean and double diapered. Because none of us could hear him crying, by the end of two weeks he was sleeping soundly all through the night. The fact that I got up every time he fussed the first six months of his life really trained him in bad habits: my fault, not his. When we returned home my husband was shocked that the baby now slept through the night! He is 54 yrs. old now and the most wonderful son I could have ever had. I love him to bits!
Oh wow that is really interesting friend, thanks for sharing ❤️❤️
It’s looking so lovely. I noticed that you planted irises, please lift them slightly as they like the top of their rhizomes in sunlight. Your doing a grand job. Love the vlogs 🥰🇬🇧🏴
Loved hearing Caruso say “yippy”. Plantings looking great.😊.
Thanks Janice ❤️❤️
In Portugal we say "Março Marçagão, de manhã inverno, à tarde é Verão" ("March, Great March, in the morning it's winter, in the afternoon it's summer") 😁💪🙌
The Newbys needs a real peacock! 😊
Hello Newby's... so much progress, I love how you incorporate souvenirs from your travels. My mother used to sew her squash seeds to dry them out. She would put the needle and thread through the pointy part of the seed, and separate them so they don't touch. The seeds that aren't moldy can still be used.
Hello Cathy, so much progress and we are so excited about it. Ah that is such a clever drying technique 🌾🪵🔨❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
That’s a very interesting way of drying seeds. I have several round tin trays that I use with a cut paper bag lining it. I just spread the seeds out and stick the tray on top of the fridge or a shelf and leave it alone for a day or two and then mix it up with my fingers to feel how it’s drying and I continue that process until it’s dry to the touch. Then I leave it there for a couple more weeks just to be safe. And it doesn’t hurt to mix them every once in awhile.
You may want to design a drainage from the right side of the porch roof that flows into the new raised bed, instead of pouring onto the porch. Great work guys! Very fun video. I felt the urgency of the rainstorm pending.😅
High guys, a hint for your seed saving, dry them out on a paper towel and wrap up in a different one, save in a dry jar with a hand full of rice. Also when your rhubarb gets started, feed it with chicken manure.
Thanks friend!
So fun to watch all your fun projects. Great job, Tara, John and Crusoe!!!
Thank you so much Jean!
Hello Tara, First for storing Tomatoes and cucumbers which have a wet seeds that need to be fermented to eliminate the gel residue. Allow your tomatoes and cucumbers to “ripen fully which is important for reproduction”and then scoop out the seeds with the gel. Add the seeds with the gel to a glass jar filled with water and place it in a warm room. Stir the mixture twice daily; after 5 days, the seeds should sink to the bottom. Drain the water through a strainer the seeds, rinse them properly, and spread them out on paper towels or a plastic tray to dry. To dry, place your seeds in a “ cool, dry location away from direct sunlight”. Not in the greenhouse. if using glass jars ascondensation can cause mold. Also, exposure to temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit will harm the seeds. Just be sure they are dried thoroughly out before storing. I use a old screen door hanging horizontally in shed with good ventilation. Then they dry from the bottom as well as the top, so you can spread them out and they get air without having to turn them like you would on a cookie sheet. Seeds can be stored in containers and plastic bags , paper envelopes. I store mine in envelopes or brown paper sandwich bags and have good luck as they are able to breathe. Good luck.
Hello Teresa, this is amazing advice. Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I love learning new things from you and the rest of the community 🤗❤️🙏🏼
The roof looks great. Like your beautiful tiles…perhaps wrap them in paper or cloth so they aren’t getting chipped in the bag. The boys….wow…growing up so fast. Love how they help out..both Crusoe and Sawyer. Tara…don’t fret about your oven. Rome wasn’t built in a day and this is your first real attempt at a project like that.
I love the way you use your tiles!! It’s such a great memory and it looks beautiful. Its a win win in my book😊
Thanks Stephanie 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Joel (sp?) is such a nice young man and hard worker! Everything looks amazing!
The concentration on Crusoe's face while he was spraying the tiles is amazing!
🦋 what a nice video, so much going on, you accomplished so much. It was amazing. There was a scene with Sawyer and he was moving so well. I thought it was Crusoe. Joao is such a hard worker and so sweet around the boys. 💕
Thanks so much Anna-Marie, we are so pleased with the progress so far! Can't wait to show you what else we have been up to on Sunday 🤗❤️🙏🏼
I love that iconic Sawyer's laughter🤣🤣🤗🤗
It is very iconic friend 😂
Hello you sleep deprived super humans, amazing and delightful progress, you're so lucky to have the help from Joao and Crusoe and all your Portuguese friends and the occasional comic relief from dear little Sawyer, its obvious that the promise of spring has rejuvenated all of you cheers!!🥰😘💕👌👍👍💪🐔🐓
Hello Frances, we are very lucky indeed. Joao is incredible! Thanks so much for watching friend 🤗❤️🙏🏼
I was just about to mention how huge Portugal is with their famous beautiful tiles! Can't wait to see what you guys find!
John is getting so excited.
Busy, busy, busy! I get worn out just watching you all, yah, not just those busy boys, lol! Tara, just one suggestion, most seeds are bought in paper packets, so I have always stored my kept seeds in paper bags, and in a cool dry place so they won't draw moisture. Such fun to see plants come up from the seeds we save ourselves. Gardening is such a great pleasure! I had a Quince once years ago... I think I'll get another one! ( :
The boys keep us extra busy too Linda haha thanks for the suggestion on the seeds! Will see if I can do that instead 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Our Quince was old when be bought our house 34 yrs ago and is going strong even though abused and ignored.
My parents had this red Japanese quince plant in their garden. I remember as a child They literally would hack that thing back to stop us being barbed by it, when we played in the garden and it just came on good as new again, time after time 😂😂
😂😂 that is great to hear Toni!
Tara you make me laugh, looking dishevelled….😂you always look so well dressed and ready to go somewhere! The boys are the cutest chaps, adorable and so involved with everything!!
My goodness everything is coming along great. What great gifts of love and learning you are giving your children.
Great episode! Love the moments with John, Joao and the duct tape…don’t we all love a great work-around?
Happy birthday in advance to Crusoe! 🎂🎁🎊🎈💗
Thank you Loriella ❤️❤️
What I'm trying to say is? You can have the right Tools, but the wrong guy. You got Both With John! Crack On!
Hi. Just love how the chickens follow you around 😂. The porch is looking great John (love the tiles)and it is so lovely how you let Crusoe help and so patiently explain things to him. Tara, you are turning into a gardening guru, will be exciting seeing everything grow and thrive. Don’t worry about the Pizza oven, I am sure it will look fine once you have finished. You both have the talent to jazz it up to a point of where you are happy with its look ( maybe tiles ). Keep positive Tara. Joao is such a big part of your family and is so lovely with the boys, you can see a bond growing there with Crusoe. Once the boys are in their own room Sawyer may settle a bit better at night. Look forward to the next one ❤xx
Lovely, lovely everything is coming along beautifully! Love those tiles!
Those tiles are such a lovely sprinkle of joy around your home place. For the uprights of the front door portico on the stone house, it may be a good idea to install metal cleats/spacers under the posts. They'll keep the wood off of the stone and help slow any waterlogging or rot.
There is a Quince bush at the house where I grew up that has probably been there a hundred years at least. I'm 68, so that tells you something. There is a rhubarb patch behind the barn that is that old as well.
Hello, you can actually propagate a chinese quince using a cutting. In case you're worried about moving plants or want to get more of them around the farm for free, make sure you look up the possibility of propogating from cuttings! It's really handy.
My father was quite successful with this. He called it air layering.
Thanks so much Evan 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Great projects advancing on all fronts! Tara, keep faith in your ability to build useful and attractive stonework - it gets easier the more you practice. A practical tip you may want to investigate: think mainly in terms of building a regular 'face' to the wall (the rest is just filling!) To help with this check out use of a stringline. John, slightly surprised seeing you butt the roof tiles to the wall without flashing to master the junction - would be dodgy to rely on a cement fillet over the top... 🙈😁
Thanks for the tip Anthony 🙏🏼🙏🏼
That camera is amazing. The porch is looking so good, love the touch with the tiles. Its great how you let Crusoe help knowing you are right there to keep him safe, he is growing up so fast. Tara all projects tend to look different than what we plan and you have just started, it will look great and it will have been made by you that makes it special. Sawyer waking up every hour reminded me of when we moved to our house when he was 7 months and he went from being in a great routine and sleeping through the night to waking up every hour - it is exhausting so I really feel for you x
Mom and I just absolutely adore spending time with you ALL! Enjoy the rain that’s coming your way!
Always enjoy spending sometime with you Newbys
Thanks so much Mat 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Love how patient Joel is with the boys.
The larger covered porch looks so good, as does the garden wall in front of the beautiful building. I can’t wait to see inside it and what you are going to do inside, as well as watching the build of the addition. Best wishes always, Tiina 🇦🇺 🇫🇮
Remember on our podcast you met Jack, he is our second child as well - and he isn't a good sleeper - he is 2 months older than Crusoe, and we are now 3 years on and the little monkey still wont sleep - so i feel the exhaustion you are going through!! Our first one, Thomas is 11 now, and he literally slept since 3 month old 12 hours a night.. Honestly - the contrast is madness!! Been thinking about your kitchen/pizza oven area. Which might help you with your motivation - build it first of all out of concrete blocks - then clad it with the stones afterwards. You could then form a concrete top to it, and then build your pizza oven above it. Could even plumb a sink into it too. It will go up quicker and you'll see progress for your motivation quicker too. Mark x
Hi Mark! The contrast is incredible, but atleast I know that we are not alone. Thanks for sharing that with us. Thank you for the suggestions about the pizza oven, I love getting new ideas from you and the rest of the community ❤️🙏🏼😃🏡🇵🇹
@@TheNewbys no worries guys! 🖖🤘❤️
Morning Newbys happy Thursday guys 🫂👋🌈
Tara, l was taught gardening by neighbours who were passionate about plants. They said we dont move anything while its in flower. Best to move while the plant is dormant. but . If the soil goes with the roots maybe the plant wont even notice. It’s all go at your place and it’s such a delight to watch it change and develop. Love to you and your three precious boys / man. Jill in South Australia. ❤ 🌸🌷🦋
It us looking so good. Joael has gotten so good working with Jon. You were talking about Sawyer not sleeping but during the w. Maybe his days and night are mixed up. He is catching up doing things outside much more. Crusoe has really gotten into working like dad. I think when you can spend time in your project it will become what you want. When you showed it today it looked like maybe to much concrete needs some smaller rocks and make it fatter, rounder walls. You will get it. I love that Japanese flower yes save it for sure. Blessings and rest you are going to get so busy🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Thanks Joie, we are so happy with the progress so far! Thanks for the support friend, my pizza oven will get there eventually haha see you again on Sunday friend 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Your Farm is so beautiful already!
Looking good guys! Love the new concrete walls and steps! …and of course the porch covering! Joao is such a blessing to you guys. He is great with the boys too!❤️🙏🏼😎👋🏻🇨🇦🦫🫎🫶🏼
The porch is looking very good 👍 topman John!
I really love the tiles you guys are putting around the farm
I love the way you both let your kiddos do risky things carefully and let them learn to use tools. It’s the one thing that really brings about brain development in children ( child development specialist here). Doing chores around the home and the farm from an early age is also really beneficial for children.. it’s the single most important factor in raising successful adults. So don’t listen to anyone who says differently.. it’s scientifically proven by long term research.
Thanks so much Philippa ❤️❤️
What a life, absolutely beautiful! Amazing talents and hearts, does my soul good. Have a beautiful week!
Thanks Lori!
Sawyer is getting so big 👦🫂👋
My guess about Sawyer is that he isn’t a co-sleeper…would probably like more room of his own. Not everyone likes the confinement?? Just a guess. Everything is looking great and I love the use of those beautiful tiles. Such a quaint, artistic touch.💖👍👍👏🏻👏🏻
Maybe if you individually wrap the tiles in tissue or bubble wrap it would stop them chipping, they're banging up against each other in the bag probably. They're so pretty.
Everything is looking marvelous on the farm. Wonderful to have a partner who is as enthusiastic, capable and visionary as John and Tara and knowledgeable gifted neighbors who become framily. Finding someone to hire who has an artistic eye as you both have in spades is difficult when I have the vision and they seem to 'know better'., often discounting a women's point of view and knowledge🤨😂🤷♀ I hope the quince loves it's new home. The tiles are lovely and thank you for always inspiring me. And Crusoe and Sawyer will have so many skills as second nature. Bravo to their parents👏👏👏👏💖
We are so thankful for everything we have been able to achieve and all the help we have received too friend, it has been nothing short of incredible. Thanks for all the support and this lovely comment 🌾🪵🔨❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Tarah, you need John painting on that project❤
I like the tiles , they are great features all over your property
It's looking so lovely already and you've only just started! 🏡 I love that the little tiles are becoming such a signature around The Farm - I hope that the *crumbs * from the chipped tiles are still in that bag so you can hopefully repair them, if not, there's a product called Milliput which is an amazing thing for repairing items that have lost their chips etc. it's really easy to use and as easy to decorate to blend it in after it hardens. I'm keeping everything crossed for your Quince and it's migration to another area - I would think if you can take as big an area of soil with it to disturb the rootstock as little as possible it wil hopefully hardly notice what you did. 🌸🍀 With the patty pan seeds - As they look like pumpkin seeds and these can be opened to reveal the inner seed, I would try opening one of two randomly and see if they look OK. It's quite possible that the mould is only on the outer casing in which case a quick wash to remove it before planting and all should be well 🌱 If it's got inside though it might be worth chucking them and starting from scratch. Try to keep the harvested seeds next time in paper bags or envelopes so they don't sweat in storage, and then keep those bags etc. indoors safe from any damp. *Hugs * to you all! xx
We are so excited to have it all finished Kimberley! Thanks for the tip on Milliput, will see if we can find some here. I will definitely have a look inside one of the seeds to see if they are okay, thanks for that suggestion! Sending you lots of love and hugs 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Hello Newbie’s! THIS FORMAT ROCKS!!! You nailed it, the music, the scene to scene differences, time lapse, all of it! Nicely done!
What a beautiful time on the Farm! Everyone helping to make dreams come true. Thank you for always inviting us on your journey. And, honestly, I have great hopes for the pizza oven!
Beautiful porch and the tiles are so pretty...I don´t know any store that sells terracotta tiles near you, but you could ask Joel or Mário. Maybe they can tell you or search on the internet. I know Porto has it. The parody you made with John sitting on a chair doing nothing, made me laugh a lot. It was so much fun. Ahahahahahaha! Crusoe and Sawyer always help their parents. It's so adorable to see. Thank you for the video!
Thanks Mary, I think we will ask them and see what they say ❤️🙏🏼😃🏡🇵🇹
When my son was around 12-15 months, he didn't sleep well at night. I told his babysitter to not let him nap during the day, and he soon started sleeping through the whole night. Just a share.
That plant looks exactly like my Flowering Quince .,,,,,, after it blooms, it puts on waxy leaves.
Wow - so much progress! Well done all of you😊
Every child is so different aren’t they? I think Sawyer will be likely to sleep better once he transitions to his own bed. One of my own woke up five times a night until he was two. It was so hard to get anything done. I’m glad you can be real about the frustrating aspects of parenting. You certainly have two very happy children so you are doing it right. Sending much love to you tired mama. This too shall pass !!!
Thanks for sharing your experience with me Val ❤️❤️
Such an uplifting video with so much family interaction and excitement. Just love seeing the progress on so many levels! 🥰🤩🤗
Thanks so much friend 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Tara, maybe put more rocks into the cracks to soften the edges. You're doing an awesome.
Your little men are awesome . Thanks for sharing them with this old grandma . Lovely children . And lovely parents . ❤
LOL "...cheeky so-and-so!" That was so cute. The boys are so amazing; Crusoe, so serious, watching and learning everything, and Sawyer is just a big bundle of cuteness on two legs! Love how they both want to help and do! Tara, you will figure out the oven...sometimes even great writers have to tear out a page and start over! See you next week Love to all
Thank you for the lovely compliments about our boys Louise. We are so proud of them. Thanks for the support, we will see you again on Sunday 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Så vackert det är nu på gården när våren har kommit och det är grönt överallt. Det blir jättefint med entrén och muren där ni ska plantera, ni är så duktiga att jobba.❤
Great job on the little portico, looks awesome.
NEVER DISHEVELED!! U R THE BEST!!!
just plant out the patty pans, they should still grow been loving these last few episodes, so much happening! thanx for sharing
Cute! A bigger tile in the apex of the roof structure might be lovely.
With the quince you can prune it way back so it becomes lower to ground and more bushy looking! It will be beautiful then!
Crusoe is always ready to help 🫂👋👋🧒so beautiful giving John the flowers ♥️🫂
Store your seeds in envelopes or small paper bags to help keep the moisture away
Well done, John! The porch is beautiful and I love the tiles. You always have great ideas ❤
Thanks Magu, we absolutely love our little tiles scattered all over the farm. Thanks for all the support friend 🌾🪵🔨❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
MY gosh. Sawyer is growing in leaps and bounds! Great progress Newbys!!
So lovely to see how everyone puts their own stamp upon these ongoing organic projects. It's so nice to see you recycle and reuse source material found on the farm. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much friend!
To determine if seeds are viable, put them in a clear plastic food storage bag inside a damp paper towel and check it everyday for signs of sprouting. They should germinate in 7-10 days for patty pan squash at 85 F or 29 C.
Amazing, thanks so much Jean! ❤️🙏🏼😃🏡🇵🇹
Tara: To test your squash seeds, select 10, place them between two damp paper towels or cloth, place them in a warm, dark place, and keep the cloth damp for a few days. Within five or six days you should see viable seeds begin to sprout. You can calculate your percentage of germination from the number of sprouting seeds. This saves space and time. You can plant the sprouted seeds, and then decide how many of the moldy seeds you should plant to get the number of squash plants you want for the season. I love watching your videos, and just realized I had, not yet, subscribed. Fixed that today.
Hello Newbys It was lovely to see your green house and vegetable garden starting to come to life. I enjoy watching plants sprout and grow. Can we please have regular updates. Cheers.
It’s great fun watching everyone - especially Sawyer and Crusoe - bustling about the farm! Keep Sawyer dry!!
🌾🪵🔨❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Haha. I thought Sawyer was going to step into the water filled hole when helping mum plant the shrub. 😂
Sawyer is just like Crusoe adorable 😊
Thank you Janet 🤗❤️🙏🏼
Great job on the porch John. It looks brilliant x
Can’t wait to go on a tile shopping trip in Portugal! The porch looks great! Love your tile collection!
