I am brand new to suppressors, but thanks to Silencer Shop, I've purchases three suppressors this year. Thanks to the ATF, I have no idea when I'm going to take them home.
I bought 2 last December and picked them up a month ago.
Same here I bought one in June and one in July and my third earlier this month hoping for good results with the new eform 4. But alas here I wait patently, most days I forget I even bought them. Curious to see what the timeline is on my stamps.
@@brandonparrett2436 I think that’s just a now problem because of the new eForms. Everybody made a run on the silencers cause they are hoping to be approved in 30-90 days. I would get on an email list and make sure you buy one the second they come available. I had no problem ordering mine first week of December. I know Deadair pumps them out like crazy so they should have some of those in stock rather quickly just be sure to act fast.
Mine took one year exactly.
Ditto. Bought my first in April of last year(2021), but it's still pending. Was actually considering getting two, or even three(a .22, an OSS helix 5.56k, and an OSS helix in 7.62), but I ended up just getting the 5.56 can. Kind of regret that now. I also really want a 9mm or .45 van, but due to the ridiculous gun laws here in CT, pistols can't have threaded barrels(unless they're .22's), so I'm kinda screwed there.
Would love a quick 10 minute talk on the new e-forms that are supposed to be launched this month
That would be a fun one!
E forms going on 10 days. Lol damn near.
Big thanks to Dave for taking on this this quest and making the process as easy as allowable .
Not only should suppressors be removed from the federal register, they sould be freely available over the counter with no paperwork like a rifle stock or a pair of shooter's earmuffs. Write to your Congressman people. The law needs to change.
I literally moved out of Illinois to Wisconsin primarily to be able to own a suppressor. I now have 3 of them. Couldn't be happier.
Get out of Looooser Dem. run states!
Here in Canada we are labelled criminals if we want hearing safe devices for our firearms. Ridiculous
It reflects on the people that elect idiots...a lot of that in U.S. NOW!
Or if we HAVE firearms.
This was an EXCELLENT interview! You guys are so good at letting your guests speak and not interrupting.
I’ve never been on a range with anybody using a silencer. But I recently got to go the other way. I’ve been shooting my 300 win mag with a break since I got it. Last time I was at the range the guy next to me was shooting a 300 win mag with a break. So I finally got to experience the concussion from his rifle. After he left I had to apologize to the couple that had been shooting beside me. I had never realized just how much blast my rifle was throwing at everyone else around me.
As a guy who been in gunfights in Afghanistan, never wearing hearing protection at all...yea the adrenaline does kinda mask it alot. I've shot .50 cal. Machine guns with no ear pro, my m4, my saw and none of it really affected me. I did notice after a good firefight that my hearing was damp thou but some of it came back after a while. Luckily I don't have tinnitus (IDK HOW)...but the day I went " yea...I need to do something about this" and had Peltors mailed out to me was during a firefight an SF guy decided to let off 5 Carl Gustav rounds right next to me. First round....fuck. that hurt. Second round...wow ok this isn't fun. Third round...I need to bound to another point of cover away from this guy. Fourth round......yup. I'm deaf now. I fell to the ground. Everyone thought I got shot. I got dizzy, disoriented, got up and threw up. He picks me up and goes "yup, thats why we wear ear pro" and after that day I never even shot a .22 without hearing protection. Once I became a civilian again and got into guns...a suppressor was an absolute must for every single gun I own. ,
Thank you for your service - we really appreciate it! that is super interesting to hear that it really didn't dampen your hearing more at that time.
Is hearing protection not standard gear in US army/navy? Atleast in Sweden every conscript gets earpro wich they use all the time (swedish made Sordin, i belive). As you write, one shot with no earpro is all that is needed to ruin your life.
@@jmkhenka youre given "standard" ear pro but its just little earbuds. No electronic ear pro. Id rather have my ears get muffled a bit from some gun fire and be able to communicate with my team, then have ear plugs in and not hear a damn thing thats going on. Also made it difficult to hear where receiving fire was coming from. I bought electronic ear pro with my own money. The army should probably look into issuing such stuff as the new standard ear pro
@@Kaotix_music yeah active headsets are great. Use them when hunting and on the range (when I'm alone i also use plugs+earpro if I'm not shooting suppressed wich single set is enough). Great that you can still talk and hear everything and with good earpro they can even increase certain noises giving you better hearing. But some earpro is not that great at directional awareness, but basic at least tell u left from right.
@@jmkhenka the US military doesn't invest in things that protect the troops. That would cut into profits for their private partners
This was a great time. Dave is a cool guy.
This has helped make up my decision to buy a suppressor. Very helpful and informative… thanks
God bless this man
This is literally my favorite podcast on this platform! Always super informative, and I only wish for more 10min talks on cartridges with Ryan. He's an unbelievable resource for cartridge knowledge. Keep it up guys!!
One of my favorite episodes! Have been through the process three times. Working with a knowledgeable and helpful dealer makes the process super easy!
Thank you for starting this company.
Thanks for this. I will be sending this to people to explain how the process works.
Thank you so much for this video!
Will forever love and respect SilencerShop!💯🇺🇸🤙
That really is an awesome story about how this company came to be... They really are the best way to go about buying a suppressor I've used them for 5 and I'm trying out their E-form 4 now for my 6th can and hopefully I'll have a suppressor ready to pick up in a couple few months.
My first suppressor wait time was about 11 months. My second took right at 5 months. My third was right at 7 months. I submitted my fourth at the beginning of October so hopefully it’ll be back by early spring. I probably shouldn’t have watched this video cause it makes me think about my wait time but I’m enjoying your podcasts and will need to find a new dealer as my dealer is going to drop his suppressor SOT. I really appreciate what Silencer Shop has created so I’ll probably use them for future purchases. Great job guys, keep it up.
Y'all need to revisit suppressors with the recent drop in NFA approval wait times
All I can say is being from Canada keep fighting to remove these processes and laws or you will be suppressed like us up here. Thank the lord for people like Dave and Silencer Shop!
Think of them as hearing protection for everyone, not just a set of ear plugs for you. I got my first in July of 1996, it took over nine months and I worked at the shop at the time. I was an FFL and doing gun shows when Blue Grass Armory asked to do some trading. They built a bolt action rifle for me with a full length intrical suppressor, in exchange for several H&K MP5 accessories. Even today it's cool as hell.
Thanks for covering this. Very informative. I suffered a viral hearing loss in one of my ears. I need to protect what hearing I have left. It’s funny that I make it 23 years in the field artillery, 40 years around racecars, snowmobiles and concerts and a virus kills my hearing. As you can tell, I took good care of my hearing up to the virus.
Thank you for answering all of my questions. I am mid stream with SS
New segment! Coffee and Suppressors!!! I like it. Thank you, gentlemen. Great conversation.
Thanks for tuning in, Russ!
Great interview! They just went digital about 2 months ago. It’s now taking about 100 days on average after the shop gets your suppressor. That’s what my Kiosk said. I’m going to do a One Shot. My kiosk didn’t tell me about that. Really appreciate all the info.
Just filed for my second can this morning. Last one only took 6 months so the new eFile *should* top that.
In Denmark we don’t need a permission to buy suppressors, as long as you have a permission for a rifle. It’s like buying ammunition. In Denmark we have more restrictive gun laws than the US, but our politicians have finally seen the light with suppressors. Suppressors are just a part of a system it’s kind a like buying a scope.
Sweden is also considering removing licensing for supressors this summer. We also have limitations on what guns we can use them on - 22LR is almost impossible to get supressor-license on as for now, but 222 and up is ok. But laws are weird, my 22 Hornet has almost identical loudness with and without a supressor as a 222R but I need separate license (wich is hard to get, relatively) for the 22H.. And where i use the 22H, its better suited then my 6.5 grendel or 308 but I dont want to irritate people around me uneccecary.
@@jmkhenka interresting to hear from the new laws from our neighbours 😁👍 Funny with the 22lr and hornet It’s some of the most useful to suppress😂🤣 Have a nice day.
Great info, you need to have him back on to discuss Eforms
I agree, great interview and podcast. I was responsible for processing Pell Grant Loan applications and forms, daily and we didn't have months of waiting. Establish a criteria, vet it up front, and move things along. I took processing govt. payments from 6mo to 15-30 days, just by introducing Electronic payments as an example, More can be done to expedite the approval process.
Hey Dave, please start carrying Witt Machine suppressors. Thanks for streamlining the process. Your company is the reason I started buying them.
In Sweden, they became an "over the counter" object about 6 months ago. You need to show that you have a weapons license thou, same with ammo, propellant and primers.
9 months and counting on my first suppressor. Just bought a second suppressor earlier this month, hopefully it doesn’t take til next summer to approve.
I found out about how to add trustees from this and that its already a one time and done thing for Kiosk. Ordering next one now this week from this video :)
I live in the UK. Here the police, who issue our firearms licenses, encourage us to use sound moderators (silencers). In many places they are mandatory.
That is super interesting! What's the process like in getting a silencer in the UK?
@@VortexNation We have to have a “need” for every firearm, eg. Deer Stalking, pest control etc. Each application usually requires an interview with a Firearms Police Officer. Sound Moderators are treated as separate firearms because they need ‘proofing’, so we apply for the firearm and a moderator at the same time. If we only apply for a firearm, we are usually encouraged to apply for a moderator for it as well. I have six rifles ranging from .22lr up to 300WM. Each rifle has its own moderator. We are not allowed pistols. An important note to anyone new to using moderators: Remove them from your rifle for storage! If they are left on the rifle, they will corrode the crown or even weld to the thread.
Still waiting on my first silencer, an OSS Helix 5.56K that I ordered through silencer shop last April. It's still pending approval. I've never bought one any other way, but between the silencer shop website, their kiosk, my local gun store, and filing electronically, I was actually very surprised at how quick and easy it was. Even the fingerprint process was done electronically on the kiosk, and it even tells you if your finger print scans are good enough or not.
Really Enjoy all your videos on suppressors
Happy to hear it! Thanks for tuning in! :)
The new ATF E-Form 4 is gonna be AWESOME!!!!!! Hopefully the Form 4 will be down to less than 30 days like the E-Form 1 is now.
My first time shooting suppressed was a friend 300 black out subsonic. Convinced me to take out my plugs outdoors.. got to admit I am hooked I am curious if the silencer shop had anything to do with the new e-form submission stuff
So this was great, thanks for doing it. Learned a lot, helpful to get a push to get going on one. And very glad Silencer Shop is doing something (big effort actually) to help make the government mess a bit easier. The trust seems like a great option too. However. That said... there are some things that need to be made more clear than what I got from this podcast. The process works best if you buy from Silencer Shop and pick up from a Silencer Shop designated dealer, and to use the SilencerShop kiosk at the dealer. As seems to be suggested, it's not quite so simple if you buy from another retailer and try to use the kiosk for the just the paperwork, stamp, trust. As I have discovered in a slightly painful way. Since it's hard to find stock of what you want, sometimes you need to go with whatever retailer has what you need. (I wish that was not the case but here we are.) Then the kiosk process only works if the kiosk location/Silencer Shop dealer will do an inbound transfer from your other retailer. Not all do - yes, I'm looking at you unnamed-chain-of-range/stores. Or, they say they do, and then when your paperwork is all done then they deny the transfer request from your retailer. And if you buy from a 3rd party then you HAVE to deliver to a Silencer Shop dealer AND that dealer must agree to take outside sales inbound transfers. So, lesson learned, ask questions of the Silencer Shop dealer first. And Silencer Shop, since you are reading, you might try to tighten up/clarify/standardize the requirements for your dealers who host the kiosks. I went to two, the staff treated those things like the plague, would not answer a single question, two stores in the same chain differ in answers on transfers, etc. But again, THANKS Vortex for shedding a lot of light on this process.
Thanks for the video guys! I already have a modular can that I switch around and even though I bought it with a SingleShot trust, I didn't know I could just add someone to it. Keep up the great work!
I didn’t know I could add others that easily either. Now I kind of wish I had done a one shot on all Of mine.
As to what it's like getting in a fire fight inside a room with no ear pro, at least in my experience, your ears "turn off" pretty quickly. So kinda like a temporary deafness. I noticed that this happens in outdoor fire fights too. Inside a building, you basically just feel the concussion, in your whole body, from your rifles and from the enemies rifles and frags and stuff. Then your ears are ringing for a week and it's like you're wearing ear muffs the whole week because you can't hear crap. Eventually it "returns to normal" but it's painfully obvious that the permanent damage is there.
I would have liked to hear more about the new eform and how that will change the process.
Silencer Shop is doing the Lord's work. Sure they aren't the only company around and I often support my local shops but IMHO they have made suppressors close to mainstream(in the firearms). Also pay close attention to what he said when he was talking about the Single Shot and adding people.
One of the best ads I’ve seen for suppressors is a hunter with a dog. E.g., shouldn’t we be protecting man’s best friend’s ears too? You’d think PETA would be all for suppressors, but a good proportion of those people also probably want to take away your guns. However, I think pushing the animal protection side of things is the way to approach congress, because I think most people would stop for a hurt animal on the side of the road, but not want to get involved if it’s a person. Pessimistic, I know, but it’s the direction our society is headed in. I’m waiting on 2 suppressors, but at 8 months nothing yet. Thanks ATF!
Great content - answered many questions I had as I begin to figure out the process. Suggestion: change the name of the video - I thought this would help me select a suppressor from the many, many that are available. But, as I said, the info in this video was helpful, and also on my list of questions. Many questions were answered!!
I got two cans through silencer shop last year. Just wish I would’ve done it sooner.
A guy from Europe once said that if you don’t have a suppressor you’re considered rude over there. I can’t remember which country
Scotland. It is a legal requirement for them to use a suppressor during all hunts.
In ireland its 1 of the first things you will be asked when asking for permission to hunt land
Much of eastern Europe, like Poland, for example...or so I have heard.
I just bought another suppressor. Had one for the rimfires, now I got one for the big 30's.
Norway, Sweden and Danmark over 90% of all rifles are sold with it!
Informative
Getting a can for every rifle is my goal. Hoping the wait time comes down with the Eforms launching. 12 months and 11 months for the first two approvals and and still have two in jail at 10 and 8 months.
I have just moved from california and the first thing I did was go to defender and accomplish the handprints and paperwork and purchased my first suppressor and short barreled rifle (pistol) in 300 blackout
Forgot to say when I did it, but this episode finally peer-pressured me into getting a can. On day 70 of my wait, and fingers crossed I’ll get it before next summer. Thank y’all so much!
Have ya got it yet?
When the E-Form 4 goes live later this month will you be able to use existing fingerprints from a SilencerShop kiosk that are already stored in your system for the new electronic ATF/FBI fingerprint submission or will you need to go back to the kiosk and have them re-scanned to use them for the the new EFT File system that the ATF/FBI is creating for electronic fingerprint submission?
In the UK, One of the hardest places to get a firearm other than Australia or maybe the Philippines. They encourage all shooting clubs and hunting clubs to use suppressors because of noise pollution. Just like you guys stated in a previous video, you can basically go down to the local hardware store, but really you have to walk into your local gun shop. Throw down $50 or a $100 get a suppressor. To get ammunition you have to have a license that they track so that they know how much ammunition you have. To get a firearm you have a 6 month to one year waiting period with a with a full background check and Psyche evaluation before you're deemed eligible to have a firearm. You're taxed on each firearm just like the NFA.
What also blows my mind is why the same wait times on successive can purchases. The ATF should be able to place a clearance designator on your profile and speed up second and third round purchases.
There is also an unlimited trust. One shot is $25. Unlimited is $125. So after you get 5 (SBRs included) they auto add a trust to everything you buy.
This is a great video as someone finally in a free state that can buy a suppressor especially with these quick turn around times…but what if due to family they had to return to Californistan where NFA is a no no. Can they be stored at an FFL in your current free state or can they be stored in a literal storage unit under lock and key in the free state?
This is awesome I am sitting in queue waiting on ATF. You need to do follow up with Dave to discuss efile.
That would be a cool topic to dive into! Keep us posted with how long you are in queue for.
@@VortexNation it would be great if you guys did a updated interview since the whole process went digital. My Kiosk says it’s now taking 100 days now to the final and pick up.
Greetings, I believe Dave misspoke at ~24:00 regarding the Appointment of Supporting Trustee. He is correct in that there are no fingerprints or photographs needed; however, the Single Shot Trust Documents #2 and #3 do require a Notary. I may be wrong, and please correct me if I am. Dave is the expert. I've purchased six through Silencer Shop, all with Single Shot Trusts. I will follow up with Silencer Shop for exact clarification. Thanks for the episode. Dave is a great guy and thanks for all that he's done and continues to do to educate and ensure our rights are protected to own silencers!
All the documents I have in my single shot trusts show the same requiring a notary.
I have been waiting for over 10 months now and would love to get my 2 just for hunting this year and I am going up to my hunting land on the the 28th of this month and it would be so great so I can get more than just 1 deer this year .......
I’m currently at 12 months waiting on the atf for my can, I hope this efile is faster for my next can
Here I am complaining at 9 months…sorry hope yours comes through.
Man, the "worlds best gun law" never stops to amaze me. Here in Norway, I can buy wichever supressor I want , no registration. Just as other hearing protection. Allso , we use light 10-15oz 150-350$ 30db (.30) supressors because if you damage it you just buy a new one. My impression is that you yanks buy heavy overbuilt supressors, as if you break it, you have to wait up to a year to get a new one. Ofcourse, I can't buy a AR15 for hunting, but I can buy semi-autos with fixed stock and max 10rnd mag, like a browning BAR. I CAN buy AR15's, but have to register and train with a aproved shooting club. Same with handguns and PPC's.
Sounds like us Yanks win this showdown. We can own not only AR-15s, but all the others like FALs, Galil's, AUGs, and all the H&K's you can afford. Just walk in, pay for it, call in a background check and your out the door and gone within an hour. I live out in the country on a mostly unused road. Every one of my neighbors have AR-15s along with other rifles, handguns and shotguns, it's the norm.
@@BulletSpoung Huh? I can have AR's galil's AK's and so on. Just not SBR's and we have a silly law against folding stocks who make the rifle shorter than 33" in a fireable configuration. There ARE other countries than the US where people can have guns you know..
I just did the kiosk today, it took a whole 10 minutes.
The one shot has changed. Each person needs to have stuff notarized and returned to you. Then you give them copies they need and they are good. Then when you loan Bob your suppressor and has had his stuff notarized. Then he needs a copy of the stamp, the trust and his addendum Not really a huge deal but more than what was said here. Bobs only hold up is Bob. If he doesn’t go get the stuff notarized he hasn’t use your stuff. I ordered 2. I will give my son 2 addendums to go get motorized and give back to me. Then he can use ether one.
Sitting at almost 8 months right now. Impatiently waiting
Hopefully you're getting close!
I shot a mule deer this year and remembered to wear my ear plugs. After the first shot he went down and I took my plugs out. When I unexpectedly needed to take a follow up shot so the deer wouldn’t suffer I didn’t have my plugs in. Now I’m looking at suppressors , because even when I remember my plugs there are too many complications that end up with hearing loss.
based solely on the video title, I was hoping for information on how to narrow down the choice of suppressor from all the ones available available to the general public - a lot of *_REALLY_* good, valuable information was provided on the application process, the different types of trusts/their pros and cons, what actually owning, using, traveling with a suppressor involves, etc. but what *_WASN'T_* covered or discussed from the standpoint of the suppressor *_purchaser_* were *_criteria_* for the buyer to use in determining the suppressor's *_best_* intended purpose, the types of firearms to be suppressed, the calibers of the firearms being suppressed, the type of ammo for suppressed firearms, routine suppressor maintenance , changes in routine firearms maintenance, construction material, design, price or dollar value and how these subjects potentially affect your *_SELECTION_* of which suppressor to lay down your hard earned cash for - don't get me wrong, I actually watched the video *_twice_* and learned something new both times . . . maybe just be a little more discerning about how your videos are titled 😋 forget what I said . . . just came across Ep. 183 and got all questions answered 👍🏽
Here in Australia I WISH we only had to pay 200 bucks and wait 8 months. Suppressors are outlawed Here unless you are a gunsmith ( and that's only to work on them ) or a contract pest controller ( a VERY difficult job to get )
Two of my friends bought suppressors for their custom 7 mags and lost accuracy. They no longer use them. They tried reloading for suppressor use and couldn't find an accurate load.
Is oddly enough James Moses Browning was the one who invented the gun muffler or as we call them now suppressor and he also created the muffler for vehicles anichols and he created the 2 companies separately separately off of the same principles 1 tone took off the other 1 was banned
I own 2 suppressors. One for home defense the other for pest control on a 22. I do not hunt with a suppressor and never will. I have a pair of Razor earbuds that magnify ordinary sounds and block the noise that are dangerous. I put them in and often forget about them. They’re fantastic! Putting a suppressor on a rifle with a barrel longer than 16” is a cumbersome task at best in the field.
Not if you already have a 26 inch barrel.
Cool
Yer to see what suppresor is better than brake?
I want the best 5.56 flash suppressor for night vision what y’all got?
Try buying one in california
Bolt actions suppress more as they don’t have gas coming out at the ejection port.
Time for Mark to go full God mode and suppress that wsm
Now that would be something!
I'm still baffled at how much these cost for such a small amount of material used to construct them. You can buy a very nice firearm for the cost of most of these.
How many people could you put on the trust?
What is the price?
Do u have to buy a suppressor in the state u live in I live right next to the state line
It's federally regulated, state lines don't matter (as long as they are legal in your state)
Where does all the money from the tax stamps go? What is it used for?
The original pew pew sound
In all honesty I really dislike trying to buy a suppressor. In part because of the red tape, but darnit it always feels like whoever is working doesn't want to deal with it either and makes the whole experience a pain haha.
11:41 “Massive recoil reduction - on most calibers they’re more effective than a muzzle brake.” More recoil reduction than a brake? That’s the first time I’ve heard that claim…
Should have asked him why they got rid of their form 1 service
Loved the interview, but the damn lighting adjustments were starting to hurt my eyes
Currently 1-23 it’s 14 month wait.
Guns get a bit more dirty because of the back pressure. It is worth it though. Cleaning and inspecting are good practices.
Want to share my experience with into new female shooters with and without a suppressor. My x- wife, was a city person. Once I exposed her she loved to hunt. I did not have a suppressor when I took her to a range 1st time. She shoot 10 rounds of 22lr and 5 of 9mm. Hated it. Her words, I'm being kicked at the same time a firecracker goes off near my head. My oldest daughter no suppressor, she believes in owning a gun for protection but hates shooting bc of the noise. My youngest daughter and my wife now, I waited until I got my 1st can. My baby girl asks if we can go out and shoot every week.y wife enjoys it but not big into it. Had my now wife first shot unsuppressed she would never shoot a gun again. The perceived recoil of an unsuppressed gun scares away women. They seem to be far more sensitive to it. Even tho every female I have shown their 1st time shooting I always start with 22lr. Anyone who wants to get girls, women, or little boys involved do it suppressed. Far greater results and more positive experience for any new shooters. Just the positive experience for my daughter and the great experience I had that day is worth the cost and wait.
NFA stamps give the government $84 million a year. Do you think the cartel, sorry I meant the ATF, would give up that money train?
They don't make the laws. Senate and house do. Gun rights aren't a priority for either party.
@@nk-dw2hm Really??? Because atf "interpets" law all the time. Pistol brace, bump stocks, 80% lowers, frt's, shoe strings, rubber bands, gloves, auto key card drawing. All of those things atf prosecutes with full force without laws being made or changed
@@BcFuTw9jt how stupid are you? 80% lowers aren't prosecuted at all, they just had to stop selling the very specific build kits that came with everything in one box. Instead you just get multiple boxes with everything you need... pistol braces are also still legal despite all the fear mongering by your favorite fake news spreaders. Ps the bump stock change was a directive from the president, but you don't hear the gop complaining about that for some reason. Weird how selective the outrage is...
I have a Remington 700 223 with a 161/2 inch barrel and it simply shoots better with a suppressor.
Where you find ourselves in a geographical Oddity two weeks from everywhere only 30 miles
Being from the UK where shooting without a moderator is taboo I found this podcast very strange. All my rifles are moderated.
So long as people understand that the cost of a suppressor and tax stamp can cost more than your rifle, I suppose that this is a reasonable video. Also that the price of suppressors is an elaborate con, because the value of the materials and labour are negligible
It’s funny how an optic is actually more deadly on a rifle than a suppressor.
Save money buy a lathe good quality carbon steel and a blueprint... Then enjoy. So easy.
I would disagree suppressors reduce just as much recoil as a brake...
It’s definitely no accident they are regulated the way they are lol It’s called centralized government control my friend
