Anchor chain tangled during heave up. Replace shackle. Disconnect Kenter Shackle.
Whoever pulled that prank should either get an award or be written up.

Glad no one was injured. Tough job! Well done eventually.
Safety first always ☝️

I am amazed by the lack of safety I watched quite a few guys stepping over cable and within bights of rope . To anyone used to working cable this is a no no. In addition they didn't even know how to break a Lugg-less joining shackle. This is basic seamanship. Other than than it was an interesting video.
Answer is simple. Russians don't give a shit about safety... Redards
Captain is a very hands on guy!
Captain the best 👍
Lead by example
This was excellent! Never saw a masterlink on such a chain!
Great job, well done all for completing it safely and without causing more damage. Captain was great, leading and making sure his guys were safe during a hazardous job.
That is what a captain's job actually is.
@@tom5051666agreed. Someone needs to tell that to the 'captains of industry' here in the UK.
@@tom5051666Actually not, but I understand you are guessing, but never spent a day on a merchant vessel. A Captain is overall in charge and responsible. However, it is the Chief Officer who is the big boss on deck followed by the bosun. Captains mostly communicate with company, do office stuff and never ever get dirty. Ever.
@@tom5051666 organise all crews
That was making me very nervous , praying the entire time that none of the ropes broke again and the men were caught in the chain running out . Extremely great work . I never knew there was master links in the anchor chains . Great video .
Wow!! That was painfully impressive. Its hard to keep in perspective that each link weighs what, 150lbs? great job!
No ... Close to 100 lbs only 😀
Probably a little less than that. This wasn't an aircraft carrier. It was a cable ship 360 feet long.@@alexappa3045
There seemed to be a lack of knowledge of how to split a chain. It is basic seamanship, but dangerous because of size and weight. There is also too many willing, but lacking expertise, crew with hammers. The pin is tapered and only goes in one way. However, fortitude prevailed. I just hope they cleaned out all the old lead plug before putting in the new one. If not, then they are likely to lose the pin and consequently the anchor. Ex RN Able seaman.
Major mistake, they should have marked the shackle before pulling it apart.
I saw a well oiled crew,a true group of able seaman
Where can I get a pair of those safety sandals?
India.
Good job to our Filipino seaman's take care ALL of you stay strong and healthy 💪💪💪
The one WITHOUT a helmet while all the others are. Massive SAFTEY infraction.
WOW !! GREAT work by ALL .😊 Had me on the edge of my seat.😢 ❤
😅 OMG so many professionel, experienced and skillful seamen and not one has ever seen a kenter link .......
Every body seen.... But no body do in this situation
They looked like a chimpanzee trying to solve a rubiks cube
Let's play put the square in the round hole
You guys made that job look so hard 😂
When plugging the pin, the lead plug fit the hole, once in just hammer it in brake off excess lead by keep on hitting the lead is expanding to plug the hole
Happy End..., congratulation...!!! Unreal story...
Hard and great job - only teamworkbrings the succsess - hats off.👍✊
GREAT JOB GUYS !
Returning to Norfolk from England we hit rough weather and our anchor chain tied itself in a knot in the chain locker. Took a couple of days but we finally got it untangled.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

Good job. Repair chains timely can avoid many dangerous🎉
You have to appreciate the men working on this Job as they have no clue in what they are doing and will [fina;;y screw up to the point of them showing how smart they truly are, I give them a #1 in a 1 to 10 as being the best they could be because they could not even cpme to a 1 track mined in doing the proper thing
Filipinos are aboard this ship..i heard them talking in tagalog..nice job mga kabayan..ingat lagi..god bless..
Did you get the twist out the kenter shackle must ride horizontal over the roller. 19 minute.
Perlu kerjasama, kesabaran dan pola pikir ternyata👍
That’s scary shit that sucker could untangle at any time, especially dangerous having a lever in there if it goes
A lot of pressure and weight on those hand rails
It was a handful 😊
Very well ❤
Always prioritize safety in your activities, bro
Thank all the weather Deities that you weren't in a Force 3 !!!!!!
Never experienced an anchor cable like that in my 42 years of sea time
Really i am not believe that is possible at all.
That e a hell of a tangled you guys had there 😂.
God, thank you for guy's like this that do what they do so I don't have to. Can you imagine doing this on a rain y day? No thank you! This must have been a training excersize. There's way to many cheifs, and no one has read the training manuals. So after all of that the chain untangled itself.
Wow, what a cluster FK that was , great job guys .. SE Texas, See Ya
The guy on the Bulwark should be aware of the snap back zone of the nylon rope where the rope goes around the roller.
In the nomenclator, "Good F'n Job! LOL Would have been safer to just pull into a dock with a crane. Lift the anchor on deck - then add the link and set the anchor over board. Probably cost a fortune - but safer. Good job anyway.
Awesome! Thank you!
Great job
THIS IS WHY SHIP WORKERS NEEDS TO BE TRAIN ED AS SHIP YARD WORKERS.... SO THEY KNOW HOW TO FIX THESE BIG PROBLEMS....
Might want to wrap a little duct tape around the master link. You know…just to be safe. BTW- good to see that owner’s manual (23:47) came in handy.
I don't understand how they cleared it. I saw them: 1. Pull a length of chain before the tangle onto the deck, to get to the shackle. 2. Disconnected the shackle, and pulled the end back toward the winch. 3. Pulled the end out again, and reconnected the shackle to the original chain lying on the deck. (Tangle not touched.) 4. Wound all the chain back onto the winch again, and the tangle magically cleared?
The twist would have straightened out as the chain was made taut.
I watched this again. This clip should be distributed to maritime training schools-it's a perfect example of persistence and teamwork. :-) I hope you all had a party and drinks? :-)
Thank you. In first day it look like impossible without assist from ashore.....
@@alexappa3045 It looked cold as well. I hope you never have a problem like that again. Safe sailing. :-)

What a complete bunch of numpties
I wonder how many twists and turns are in that anchor chain, and to allow the twists to untangle most likely requires time. Lift the anchor and give it time to untwist, it's very heavy and moves slowly. Would it be a better idea to have 2 anchors to keep the ship from spinning around 1 anchor? And, or, raise the anchor once every couple of days to allow the chain to untwist. Is there more than 1 anchor on this ship to prevent it from spinning, or to hold the ship still with anchor #2, whilst anchor #1 chain can be untwisted?
How many practice drills and hands on class room do you do , to learn how to repair the anchor chain ... Seems that this is one of he least jobs that we practice..
Need to bang opposite sides of the kenter shackle to brake apart, Before putting back together oil the parts not grease. Oiling will enable to come apart easily' Чтобы разъединить скобу, необходимо ударить по противоположным сторонам центральной скобы.
if you had dropped it down in the water first time you make have released the kink out by the anchor rotating under its own weight.
A "portapower" would be useful 🤟
How did that mess even get up the hawspipe
When they had the chain secured to the railing I thought there would be a disaster but they changed it to the bollards thankfully.
Need to let the tension off from bellow the jam. After it's free, pull in the slack, then release the pulleys. Unless theirs too much chain weight out
What a a problem. Good work! :-)

😊😊😊😊😊m çok güzel olmuş eline sağlık
I have a small boat and this happen to my anchor everytime i free drop the anchor to fast to the bottom..maybe there a loop in the slack chain and fall right onto the anchor and when pulling the anchor tight a knot is forming..or theres a mermaid or sea monster pranking you guy😅
im just wondering how the hell they got an overhand knot in that chain at first i thought there was a repair link in the knot but there isn't
Yes this was surprise for all
With Light Saber you could use solution used by Alexander the great to untangle Gordion Knot in ancient times.
The weakest point in a rope is the knot.. The best knot to use to fasten the broken rope together would be a square knot, but even better is a hitch knot. When attaching old line to new line on a fishing rod, a hitch is most often used because it is strongest. Very interesting video. I bet they won't let that happen again. What a pain in the booty!!!!
A sheet bend
Mantap
typical ...the guys with fresh hard hats and plain cloths seem to think they know more then the workers.... no wonder it took so long to fix
Looks like a piece of cake to untangle,,, Rite? How did the chain ever get slack enough for that to happen? Good work men.
I think I heard a guy mention the Tide, which I think would turn the anchor on the way up and the twist will always finish at the end of the anchors point of attachment. if it hasn't got a swivel ..
There has to be some slack as it is necessary for the anchor to dig in, get a bite of the bottom otherwise it'll just drag along.
Good question how does that happen?
In another video, they rested the anchor on a tugboat while making repairs. The tugboat was never the same, but the job got done.
First you recreate the tangle with a rope. You haver no idea what your problem is till you do. The friction, the loop, the track, the chain tension at each end is it fixed/loose?
There’s a lot of Filipino seafarers! 😅
I'm really very surprised the Main Man has not cut out a link of stuck chain and installed a new Link .. DONE .. end of story ..
Interesting chain connection . I was wondering how you were holding the anchor in place and how much did the anchor Weigh....Thanks.
Panamax anchor usually about 7 Mt.
😎🙏
Also chain needs more master links in it spread out threw it
NK Lloyd approved. Japan project
You must melt lead on safety pin to secure …! Captain safety clothing…!!!! Calm seas st Nicolas on your bow…!!!
Ranch below the knot and bring the pressure off of that knot so you can untangle it
The only up side of this physical job is the weather it could be a lot worse!
planer boards and emergency crimp fitting to cut a stuck anchor by chain and plug port hole
If that is the First Team, I’d hate to see how the Second Team Operates! It appears as though they have never trained or actually worked on an anchor chain problem such as this incident!
There are 6 of you, at least, is it the Tetris puzzle? Disassembly of the false link I don't see any use of grease to insert the pin into the link...
Sad to see the muzzle wearers
If they only had a couple of Pollocks to help them.🤣
