This movie is criminally underrated.
When I first saw the trailer I laughed at Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and I want to apologise to them. They were very good in the film.
I still laughed at their characters while watching the movie.

Saw this movie a couple days ago…have to say the duel at the end is on the level of Hector vs Achilles in Troy…it was so good.

Absolutely. It was a really well staged fight.
I kinda disagree, Hector barely makes Achilles squirm at anytime in their duel. While in this movie even though I know the winner, makes my heart pumping at all of its moment. Every blow seems it could kill if any of the fighter is distracted for a moment.

Went to this opening night and was surprised there was only 3 other people in the theater, everyone was seeing the new Halloween but let me tell u i definitely am not ashamed of putting my money towards a ticket for this movie

LET THEM GO! LET THEM GO! ...Super underrated movie. The opening perfectly set the tone and the final duel is one of the best combat scenes u will ever see PERIOD. So gritty, violent, and suspenseful. Shame it didn't get the box office numbers it deserved.

As a french it was a strange experience. The story's set in France and everybody's speaking french in the background, but the main characters speak in english
even King Charles' accent was heavily English accent. So weird they didn't even try to incorporate French accent
They did that in kingdom of heaven with the Frankish crusaders. Just watch the french dub, don’t watch it in english, plenty of ambiance.

I can not wait. Ridley Scott’s Brilliant First 1977 film, 'The Duelists' is a masterpiece. I feel this could be another coming from the master film maker himself.

I tried watching Polish and Russian movies, beautifully photographed but the directing was terrible and on the other hand, badly photographed movies that were saved only because of good direction and editing. Point being it's the director not a cameraman that makes a good movie. Although a good cameraman is a must for a good team.

It isnt really. It is only loosely BASED on true story. There are countless mistakes in the movie that makes it pure fiction, wether they are intented or not.

McLoving being the King of France is an interesting choice
The choice was interesting but true to history, this was the first French king to centralize France more or less but still a puppet of the Nobles (the boss of both duelists) and dependent on Knights and connected financially people like the Squire.
you'll also recognize him from that one Black Mirror episode, the one where he's blackmailed
charles vi was notoriously volatile as he had mental illness that plagued him from his mid 20s til his death. the dates in the movie are pre-onset, but you can tell from the actor's portrayal he's got something going on up there... just a bit too unhinged and disconnected from reality to appear normal

no wonder this captured my attention, its Ridley Scott(Gladiator) Great Talent. Sometimes its not the actors that make a movie but the leadership...never thought much of ben Affleck or Matt Damon I used to get them confused lol and did not see a period flick in their future... but because I like period films, Ridley Scott and Adam driver-its is sure to be a good movie. ben Affleck as a blond lol I think the mullet is Matt Damons best look.

Non sequential telling of the story from different perspectives. By the end of the movie, I saw the movie three times.
The first two chapters were great, then the third was not only bland, but you had already seen the story twice so you knew precisely what would happen.. Its entire purpose was just to tell "the woman good, literally everyone else bad and evil!!"

And they should. They rewrote it because there was no way they dared show that the woman, who was the property of her husband, might have lied at his insistence. The truth was never known, even at the time it happened, how could it possibly be known today?
@@billiey36 Your argument was brought forth at the time. The husband argued they couldn't be lying because the shame to his family and the risk of both of them being killed was too great. Besides, the movie wouldn't be showing different perspectives if they only wanted to present one final truth.
@@maya-parisan They left out the perspective that the husband put her up to it because that would've implied she was lying. They can't show that in today's climate. They also invented LeGris's perspective that there was a consensual encounter. He always maintained he never touched Marguerite. And the husband, a trained and experienced fighter, which LeGris was not, would never have challenged LeGris to a duel if he was afraid of losing.
@@billiey36 And yet de Carrouges almost lost a few times during the duel, so obviously it wasn't a walk in the park for him. Le Gris might not have been as experienced, but he was definitely trained, and possessed greater physical strength.

The period setting was the selling point for me, Paris being a shithole of a city back then, and becoming one now again almost 1,000 years later is just poetic justice. Old Europe never changes, right, we can agree on that.
Halloween Kills got most of the audience, but I watched this after that movie (the people are just so stupid and I didn't feel sorry for them when they got killed). The Last Duel is a much better movie and hopefully will do better at the box office.

Matt Damon then becomes the kings bodyguard in real life and becomes very wealthy. There's no historical account of his death but it is believed he was killed in combat at age 60 or so. Mainly I want to know if he cuts his head off. Those illustrations with the head could be fake or just artists of the time taking creative liberties.

See / read , also, the adaptation of Conrad's novel : the duellist (performed by Harvey Keitel) ... a duel before, during and after napoelonic war. I love my country.
