WIRELESS SWITCHES with STANDARDS - ENOCEAN kinetic switches by Retrotouch

Wireless switching is becoming popular in rewire and upgraded electrical installations, especially where it is difficult to run new cabling. They are also simplify the wiring of 2 way switching or 2 way and intermediate switching.
Many of the wireless switching technologies on the market feature proprietary protocols. This means if a manufacture no longer produces the sender or receiver unit the system could become useable if spare parts are no longer available.
The wireless light switches in this video use Enocean battery free technology. This means light switches can be paired with receiver modules from many different manufacturers.
In this video we feature a dimming module from Eltako, a switch from Nodon and a new two way switch with Bluetooth by Kozee.

  • Have fitted plenty of Quinetic and the thought always crosses my mind about the next guy that comes along to repair / replace where is he going to look for the receiver. I always place a label behind the switch buttons as to where the receiver is located but I’m sure a lot of installers won’t be so diligent. It’s a future problem in the making I’m sure.

  • Great stuff, they have their uses, I have been fitting Kinetic based switches for a few years, they are great for as you say, getting out of chasing walls for 2 or intermediate switching, saves a ton of work, and the customer always prefers that lol. I do worry about longevity, support, reliance on bluetooth standards, frequency changes in future etc.. it would be a good thing if all manufacturers standardised the protocol. Cool video.

  • Great video men! Question: Are the receivers always drawing a little power [e.g., the way [as is my understanding but I’m open to correction] a Hue product [e.g., a bulb in off / standby mode] is always drawing a small amount of power? Not really an issue before the energy price rises but arguably now very much a consideration! Many thanks in advance, Richard

  • I notice that he app displayed PIRs. I am interested in using a pair of PIRs at either end of my drive (50m) to turn on several lights along the length and the wireless looks ideal. Can you cover this in a video please?

  • So the Bluetooth mode paired to the kinetic switch will only work if the phone is in range of the receiver and also switch in range of the phone? Or does it bypass the phone and then stores the switch signal at the receiver after pairing through Bluetooth? This is not clear? 🤔

    @001Neal100@001Neal1002 жыл бұрын
    • The receiver / relay stores the signal so either the app connected via Bluetooth or the switch can trigger the relay. The relay is paired to the app and the switch separately.

  • My approach is to take all the dimmer/switching controllers back to a hub point and properly document it. Then switch freedom for the occupants to make changes (especially bedrooms as kids grow up). Minimises the oh heck if one of the vendors goes splat too.
