I've no idea how expensive the switch modules are, but I'd be tempted to leave a couple spare inside the enclosure, as knowing my luck they'd be discontinued the following week and start failing 11 months later!
Ha ha ha ha ye maybe
Great video Nick. I used some Quinetic switches last year for a garden lighting project. So easy.
Great videos Nick! The quinetic switching is brilliant too, I’ve used it a couple of times and customers are really pleased with it. Keep up the good work dude!
Was that Robin flipping the bird? They're amazing!! And the level of workmanship by the dark knight is ocd level 💯
Mate that wire up was a thing of beauty. I've been wanting to use these in my extension, and was thinking it would be easier to have all the receivers in one place. Your video has been exactly what I was mulling on doing. Awesome, Thanks!
I like the Earth cpc correction 👍
Great work guys. Very neat and swiftly done. Thanks for the vid.
I've tried various electronic switching devices and in my experience they only seem last for about 5 years before they start to fail (and that includes LED lamps), they also seem susceptible to glitches (a good reason to install SPD's), which causes them to loose memory settings, which leaves you running around trying to find what you did with those instructions five years ago! Compare that with the life of a plain switch (which can be replaced for a couple of quid), and you can see any short term financial gain is fairly quickly lost, even with the unlikely event of the devices lasting 10 years. Cheers, Gordon
You will have to get Adam a Robin hat! The dynamic duo! 🤣👍
Brilliant video as always fella and great idea for my house to use them, and Adam deserves a pay rise lol love it
That's a great find for advice! Really neat job! Cheers for the videos & information
another great video nick , going to use them on my garden lighting refurb , will only need 1x so worth it for the hassle saved cheers gaz
Got to love re wires, i have the same jsp mask, couldnt do without it !!
Great vid - bit of humour thrown in - quality work - impressed!!!
Might use these on next rewire, gd work nick 👍
0:10 Adam is going to go far, love it :-D
Brilliant video ! Well done 👍
When I worked for a contractor I was told not to wear my macdonalds cap so I wore a carling black label one the next day. No sense of humour at all. Excellent videos thanks.
Great job I’m impressed with them, are those switches specifically for that kind of application or can any type of switch pair with the module?
David savery wears a McDonalds hat , and i would trust that man with my life ahaha
im not a leccy sir. but i could watch and learn all day. Your apprentice is a lucky lad, with a diligent teacher. The Quinetics are very clever, for and older person or an infirm person they could have the switch by thier chair -- light, heater, fan etc (my wife has the Hive thermostat on a stand near her so i cant turn it down --still doesnt realise i have access on the phone) best wishes..
Cracking work as usual.👍
Top Quality Work as always
I can't help feeling Expert Electrical are missing a trick here. Nick's given a glowing review about how brilliant Quinetic siwtches are but Expert Electrical don't sell them 🤔🤔🤔 and they can only be purchased from TLC. If I'm getting Quinetic switches for a job from TLC, then the chances are, I'll probably get everything else I need for the job from there too.
I’ve just done one of these, and I already wish I watched your viddy before, yours looks so much tidier 😂😂 only an apprentice, live and learn 🤷♂️
Neat little system, my niggle would be the grid plating look, do they only make grid plate switches only? Also what are your thoughts on the solid gear safety shoes?
I haven't seen the other video yet, but is the feed for those receivers switched locally next to the box? It would make it easier when the next sparky comes to test for the condition report. Even a fused spur with 13a fuse would work.
What brand was that enclosure for the Quintecs Nick . Thanks in advance
This is absolute genius! I am learning at the mo and worked with a spark who re-wired a WHOLE flat ENTIRELY in surface trunking. And I mean ENTIRELY!!!!! This wouldn't obviously totally eliminate the trunking but certainly would have cut it down a hell of a lot!
Ps they has just had it painted, carpeted etc to rent it out only to have an EICR done revealing hardly a CPC in the whole gaff...... hence the trunking: it was their choice.
I was thinking to put everything in one place but will it able to reach all the corner of the house?
Could I ask what type/size of adaptable box you used to house the Quinetic controllers?
Great video mate keep it up doing good job 👍
lovely stuff
Thanks for making this video nick . At 13.30 point it showed 9 controllers in that box in the attic . I believe there is now 6amp dual controllers available .If you fitted dual controllers would that mean there would only be 5 controllers in that box ? And every thing else would work exactly as you had shown in the rest of the video ? I am just trying to understand the advantages /disadvantages (if any) of dual controllers . Thanks
Great Job Guys. Well Done 👏👍👏🙌
Proper job dude. Very neat and tidy. Forgive my ignorance as I have not installed this gear before. Does it create an ache in the balls for dead/live testing? Hatman and Bobbin? The dynamic duo...... Thanks for the upload as usual Mr Bundy.
awesome content
Well done Dude! it's the future great videos! Maybe you should start wearing Star Wars hat as all the Jedi force click on and off light switches 👊
Quality work!
Nice work. My only critique and it’s minor. Is use harness loom cable ties. Smaller Cable tie head. Thinner and looks neater. 👍🏻
Superb job sir.well done.
Sorry mate, only just thought of something with regards to the extractor fan. Was that controlled via the quinetic system and do you still need to fit an isolator for it?. Cracking videos mate, just going through your back catalogue lol.
Great video 👍
Hi, very impressed with your video! I have a quick question, On a job today we have a exciting 4gang switch the customer asked for a additional 2 way switch to be installed but no way in getting cables in now. Was wondering if there was something i could install with out going grid style if there was a quinetic receiver that has IN and OUT connection with a switch connection to go to the exciting light switch like a s1 s2 connection? And the other end wireless? I know this is possible with smart switches
A convenient system but I wonder how long the equipment will last and how available spares will be when you come to replace them
Listen longer videos are ok as you can show better content for younger electricians as for us older dudes good to see innovative products in use keep up the good work
You’ve lucked out with Adam mate. He sure sounds like a solid lad with his head screwed on and works hard.
Good vid Nick ,what was the cost and is there a long term guarantee to this type of installation by the manufacture ?
As always a good vlog
14:38 Imagine showing a 1950s electrician that tech😂😂😂
Djdc 27 WITCH!!
That's magic that witchery
He would probably say, what's wrong with the conduit drops? Cant you get a cable down there?
Nice work fella.....still laughing at you ...Dave Save and Mr Beck in the pub
They make a dual output/2 channel receiver so you can cut the amount you need in half - TLC: QU R323
Can I ask how you have found carrying out testing (eicr) with the Quinetic system in circuit???
if there is a power failure is the pairing between the switch and the power rely lost ?
Did you split the main so it’s covered by 2 or even 3 6 amp breakers ?
You may not be able to see floating dust but I can assure you nick there will be lots of dust in that loft even when your not disturbing stuff.
What type of electrical enclosure did you use to mount the Quinetic receivers in?
Not sure if this was thought about but if your lighting breaker trips you'll loose all your lights if it's done with one feed. Loving the vids, keep up the good work!
That's how it would be if using normal switching. Usually upstairs lights and downstairs lights are on different breakers, but with older wiring all lights could be off of one fuse/breaker.
@@stuartarnold9444 British electrics is a Bodge. In Germany room every room has its own light circuit
So I’ve had a quick read about quinetic lighting and it seams it’s main selling point is the wireless switches ( that don’t need batteries ) I have a smart home myself so I’m far from a technophobe, but I’m always a little uneasy about systems like this that require properly hardwiring into a house system, my thoughts are if the company goes bust or drops support for the product in 5 / 10 years time then the customer is abit screwed, also if they are wifi connected and the company decide that they want customers to pay a subscription, then again the customer is screwed. I’ve gone down the Hue lighting route myself for this reason ( normal lighting circuits, but smart bulbs and wireless switches ) I want smart lights / table side lamps, but if hue doesn’t support the system in X number of years then at least I can remove it all without messing with the wiring in the house.
How do you account for ceiling lights being turned of by the wall switch? Do you cover them with wireless switch or a blanking plate of some sort. My Dad has hue but can't stand it as the wall switches are still there and so you have to give an explanation to anyone that goes to his house about how they work. I have a custom MQTT based setup that uses in line modules to the ceiling rose and no one would know unless told they were smart controllable. I like the idea of the invisible smart home.
You can now get friends of hue switched that use the same enocean tech so it's all battery less too.
All your points are pretty much not valid. Firstly, the company will not go bust, these switches will get more and more popular as time goes on. Even if for whatever reason they did go bust, they'll be another company using the same technology. Also as time goes by different technologies will emerge from this. Secondly, there main selling point is the power of kinetic energy, so your point about charging a subscription is irrelevant and no different to saying Hue could charge people a subscription.
Sad to say I have had my first quinetic receiver fail today, was only running a 3amp extract fan the internal fuse went now unit dead. fan tested ok 😢
@Charles Vane you might need to fit an RC snubber across the live and netural terminals to soften the load.
Good work what’s it work out for them price wise
Just looked at the price of these things. Can they really be cheaper than a conventional lighting install? On a house rewire, would the saving on labour and materials outweigh the price of the switch and receiver?
What's the name of them red connection units on the downlights ? Are they replaceable gu10 bulbs ?
Can you use a 4core cable to switch separate lights on the same circuit?
This guy knows what he's do,in!
We use the dimmer version all the time
what gloves are they mate? the black mamba ones?
Great video. Sorry if I have missed something but do quinetic not do a grid system. Seems odd using MK with another manufacturers switches.
They do now!
some years down the line and you havnt clarified exactly what the adaptable box is that you used, any links please or finer details??? thanks
On the whole, seems a good job, nicely done. I try to use quinetics wherever I can, typically governed though by the price and what people are willing to pay. I wonder about the bathroom fan though, typically installation instructions require DP switching and/or 3 amp fusing, so how was that catered for? And that downlight hole was a bit close to the woodwork, so did the downlight manufacturer have a minimum distance to adhere to?
Impressive
Any similar products for the US market?
Thought the TV was on the way out, thankfully released it was just the video losing video every few seconds flickering :)
Where can I order the 8 receiver box?
Neat job ..... can see the benefit it you can't get at wiring, or don't want to chase tons of walling. Would not see any benefit to swapping out any correctly working lighting ccts. Jury is out on long-term reliability - guess we will find out
My client use same as "ding dong" at the door at the rual holiday house since some years. The normal wifi system produce only empty batteries. That is a wonderful product idea.
Nick, ive seen you use these "Adaptable boxes" a few times now and I want to start using them. Which brand are they? I cant seem to find one that i can secure components inside.
I believe these are - Gewiss GW44207 Plastic Enclosure
@@glopena3986 More likely Gewiss GW44209, the GW44207 is smaller
one question, if their is no power in the switch, could these switches be used inside the bathroom, or is the potential high humidity of a bathroom a problem for these switches?
There are switches at ip67
Do you know what that insulation in the orange wrapping is called? Want to get some to replace the rather squashed insulation in my new house (and make it less of a pain to mess around putting downlights in etc).
It's just loft insulation it's all made from fibreglass so dont worry about the brand. The last stuff I used was made by knauff.
@@paulf2529 cosy wrap i think off the shelf BandQ
When is adam getting his hat? Both you and davo savo have hats.
Awesome video as always but i think the joker has put to many ads in batmans video 😂😂😂
Q. How did you secure the receivers to the inside of the case? Small self tapping screws? Great vid! About to plagiarise your layout on a rewire.👍🏻
They have adhesive on the back of them
Good work. The switch must obviously need a battery and although saving a lot of work it would mean forever changing batteries I would imagine
Thought it worked on kinetic energy, so battery needed, unless i totally misunderstood, hence the brand name Quinetic
No battery at all
Nice
You Know you’re doing a good job when all they can hate on is your fucking hat 👍
What enclosure is that?
I don’t understand, why would you fit these? How was it before?
Nice one, can you put 1 switch on two receivers?
Yes, a switch can be paired with as many receivers as you like.... A receiver can be paired with up to 10 switches. Imagine the cabling to achieve 10 way switching by conventional means?
What boxes are you using for the receivers please :).
I believe these are - Gewiss GW44207 Plastic Enclosure
It is fun! ;)
Where you get them slime line fatal boxes from pal ?
Fatmax
I can't find part 1
Presumably it was an electrician who wired up Batman's searchlight! 🤔🤣
You wont be needing the metabo chaser now haha
Except for rings and all other cabling that requires chasing in😉
Not sure if this has already been covered . if you lose power, will all the switches need synching again
Steve Berry they won’t
@@SamButlerUK Thanks for clearing that up for me
If do you put out power for longer time e.g. 10 years. Then it is possible that the build-in memory stop work. But then need "click 3 sec. click switch" - easy.
How well known are these products to electricians? I mean there’s only you and Dan (DSS) that’ve mentioned these on KZhead so far. Maybe early days, but that’s what concerns me, will some electricians struggle learning new technology?
Why would you be worried will still work either way its done?
How you goin about testin that lot nick, no 500 v IR
RK 180 L and N linked I expect . If he was to IR test it .
Test at 250 my certs have a column for it
Gn3 LN COMBINED TO EARTH.
What would the cost be on these switches?? Seems like a very good idea, just wanna know if it’s cost effective?
Need to get Adam a batman hat 😂
LOL the wire goes in out shake it all about
