  • Those large double din rail boards are my preference hands down. Wish most UK domestic installations would go to this arrangement since it leaves plenty of room to expand without changing the board later. When I did domestic, I always hated going in to add a feed only to find an old wylex stuffed full and three or four add-on boards already hanging off the installation. Never know when you might want to add an EV charging point, home workshop, garage, shed, garden lights, etc. Lots of people getting solar as well. Don't regret that chonky tails gland for a minute! It looks sharp, and gives good gripping to prevent them getting yanked out. Nice one!

    @olivertaylor3410@olivertaylor34104 жыл бұрын
    • I think that do you in nz use direct power lines from board to device? But in the UK they use ring power lines and extra fuse into power connectors.

      @AE-mu1jc@AE-mu1jc4 жыл бұрын
    • Oliver Taylor Most average houses need only two or three circuits for sockets in the U.K, because of the ring design several rooms / multiple sockets are typically served by one circuit. Things are slowly changing as radial circuits serving individual rooms become more common.

  • Going against the flow here, but I’m doubtful on the quality of these cheap Chinese import CU’s. Used a couple myself and been burnt. Couldn’t get spare mcbs just 2 years down the line and trying to get technical info out of this particular company was a joke. I’ll stick with Wylex cheers. Nick why don’t you do a Wylex CU install and show everyone their miniature & switch neutral RCBO’s? Absolutely cracking product the best / safest I’ve personally used.

    @Robspark@Robspark4 жыл бұрын
    • All manufacturers do it with spare parts, look at square D, qoe rcbos, wylex do it as well somee of their older stuff is hard to get hold of and they clack you for it. Wylex were one of the firm's saying their insulated boards complied with the hot wire test, turned out they were just putting the BS number on, so buying British is no guarantee unfortunately.

      @acelectricalsecurity@acelectricalsecurity4 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Anthony - the lack of spares these days is shocking, but I think you’re more likely to get Wylex (even if it’s EBay) then whatever cheap Chinese import stuff Nick keeps banging on about. I like his work but let’s face it he’s pedalling this stuff as he’s getting paid for it - good on him although I take it all with a pinch of salt. At least Wylex have a technical helpline, factories in the U.K. (I went on a tour of the Wythenshaw site a few years ago as we did a big project with them). Wylex ain’t perfect but they’re definitely the best (in my opinion) in the domestic market. Probably the only one I’d put in to my own house (actually I have lol).

Not only are you putting peoples lives at risk, the real electricians out there are going to struggle to get work, because there is so much information available on Utube. Why bother hiring an electrician? Stop this nonsense NOW before things get out of hand. Just for the sake of a few more subs? People like you are going to make it really tough for electricians to get work and make a decent living

    @riazahmed913@riazahmed9134 жыл бұрын
    • 😂😂😂 If some Wally wants to rewire or install their CU, that's upto them. I definitely have no lack of work. You sounded a little sour there. It's highly illegal for a Diyer to change a consumer unit without notifying building control. Any Napit electrician testing and signing the installation is put liable to it. This is exactly why I don't do 3rd party. It actually works out more expensive then getting a registered electrician. The amount of evidence NAPIT require for me to sign off 3rd party. Is almost like an inspector telling me exactly how the installation design should be.
