  • I remember reading Moon You in college years ago and I'm so glad it got a movie adaptation. Even though the ending is slightly different from the comic, it still catches the bitter sweetness of both Yuu's sacrifice and his "return" to Earth.

    • What happens in the original?

      @mattcoyle1620@mattcoyle162011 ай бұрын
    • @@mattcoyle1620 *Spoilers ahead if you dare:* It follows along with him getting ready to return until everyone learns a second meteorite is approaching. At this point in the comics Yuu decides to launch the return rocket directly at the meteor, trapping him on the moon with little supplies and growing exposure to solar radiation. It's heavily mentioned that Earth will not be able to retrieve him before he dies from the elements but they decide to try to get to the moon as fast as they can even though it's expected be a retrieval mission due to his sacrifice. Yuu meanwhile is celebrated as a legendary hero while Earth and the kangaroo have a happy ending. The epilog has the main lady land on the moon and find Yuu relaxing in a habitat before she says "It's time to go home" and Yuu walks with her outside without a suit. It then shows her walking alone revealing he did in fact die of malnutrition and solar radiation and she was just imagining him. I would definitely suggest reading Moon You because it's very heavy in comedy and focuses a lot on Earth treating his daily antics as a reality show before dosing you with emotions at the end.

For more intelligent/social creatures it includes protecting the young and the nest/hive. In humans it has extended from the family unit, to tribes, to cities, to countries, to the planet, and if we are lucky, beyond. If he didn't sacrifice himself... at best he would stay on the moon for the rest of his life with no other human contact. Not exactly a life even worth living, he was going to kill himself when he realized this himself. The entire reason you and I exist, is because other humans across at least 200000 years have been sacrificing themselves. Its interesting to find someone that where this even needs explaining.

  • This movie and the Wandering Earth does a very good job at depicting human emotion, collectivism, and an ideal world where people share empathy. Some might hate it for the subtle tones of Chinese propaganda, but we need more movies of substance than what Hollywood is churning out on the daily.
