    • It's the same argument that you can see in any bar in any corner of the world. Two guys, over invested in their own point of view to truly hear what the other person has to say. Of the two of them, Eric was more likely to surrender points to Chad but talking over him in the process.... Personally, having watched this through twice now I am more convinced with Eric's arguments tbh. All you need is these 2 rounds... Job done.. Chad is going to be test firing dozens of different hand loading combinations before he is happy..

Still not 5.56 cheap, though worlds ahead of the early $1/round days and an option to consider before cutting down brass and investing in reloading gear. I started reloading specifically for suppressed blackout, and while time consuming it does open up an entirely new world of ammo selection.

  • Even with current administration-induced 7.62×39 supply issues and limited availability of prime 7.62×39 hunting cartridges (S&B 124gr SP are my favorite), I would STILL take the 7.62×39 over 300blk because it is still cheaper to purchase, easier to stock up on, and also fills the "life and liberty" niche. • Yup, 7.62x39 is awesome. I’m pretty sure 300 Blk is better in almost every way except overall capacity, but I like to shoot. I’ve got a decent amount of spare cash but 300 is just too pricey. I am at the point in life where 5.56 and 9mm cost is basically the same to me, (yes 9mm is definitely cheaper but fun for bang is 5.56) but not at the 300 Blk bank account yet.

      @john-paulsilke893@john-paulsilke8935 жыл бұрын
    • There are many safe loadings from sub-sonic to high velocity. 7.62x39mm can’t do this. Both do work well in short barrels but 300 Blk can work in extremely short barrel. Still I see your point and for my money 7.62x39mm is my goto all day long. I don’t own a 20ga shotgun because I own 12ga shotguns and so there’s a possibility for accidents or oversights. I also shoot .40 S&W instead of 9mm and 9mm major in the same guns with spring changes for the same reason even though for competition I need four guns instead of two for my events. 300Blk can be loaded and shot in my 5.56’s once. Not worth it to me even though there are distinct advantages in this caliber.

    • Agreed, I see .300 blackout as something for AR people if they want a larger bore bullet using the same equipment. You can use the same mags, all you need to do is replace the barrel, and the bolt carrier. If someone wants a larger bore bullet as a new purchase then 7.62x39mm all the way. I also can see 300ba being used by special forces from a short barrel with a suppressor, and it maybe replacing PDW weapons in 9mm or 5.56mm as it does function so well from a short barrel.

      @mymic208@mymic2086 жыл бұрын
    • alan wilson since when does the bolt carrier need to be changed when converting from 5.56 to 300BLK? The only parts different from a 5.56/.223 AR to 300BLK is the barrel, muzzle device, and gas system (300BLK using a shorter system). Everything else is interchangeable.

    • I could see 300 blackout being used as a replacement for an hk mp5sd setup. Compact, quiet and easy to put follow up shots down range (or more realistically down the hall). I dont see much of an advantage otherwise. Like if i had to clear land of pigs and had a budget, I would reach for 7.62x39mm almost everytime just on the merit of cost alone. If I knew that people were planning on breaking in my house and I wanted to protect my families hearing, I'm gonna swallow the cost and go for 300 blackout.

Each has it's upside/downside. All I can say is I LOVE 300 BLK. I reload 147 gr and 220 gr for mine and they work great.

    @Stonehombre1@Stonehombre16 жыл бұрын
    • Stonehombre1 Do the same myself. Apart from being into guns, I'm also a big recycling fanatic lol. 300 black gives me a fun/affordable subsonic option, while also giving me a new way to reuse brass that would otherwise go to waste. Let's be honest, apart from accuracy loading and unless you have a nice progressive setup, there's no reason to reload 5.56 300 AAC got me into the reloading game, saves me TONS of money, and opened up a new world of firearms for me. Endless ammo selection, and I can now own more rare and obscure calibers and actually afford to shoot them.

Otherwise, I would've went 556 since I wanted to stay with an ar-15 platform since it was my first rifle. I can see however the viability of the ak-47 round for other reasons.

When steel cased Wolf 300 BLK (not avail in US yet) or from Hornady is available perhaps that will finally end the price "point".

This is not counting the 300bo reloads and the 762x39 surplus brass. Until wolf or Sgammo order “cheap” 300bo, 762x39 will be more popular.

  • And for reloading…the .300 AAC blackout uses .308 bullets vs. .311 and thanks to the “Squirrel Daddy” case trim jig you can easily cut down .223/5.56 brass to be used in forming the .300 AAC brass (if you spend the $30 for the cheap assed Harbor Freight chop saw) and the .300 AAC really performs well with home-cast powder coated bullets…plus military surplus reloadable brass ammunition from Australian Defense Industries (ADI) loaded with 125 gr. Sierra MatchKing bullets for under .55 cents per round when they are on sale from Global Ordinance (it will be hard to find the bullets alone for that price after tax and shipping)…all in all…the .300 AAC blackout rocks in so many applications 👍👍👍

So yeah a bit more expensive, but they are capable of 1-2 moa groups out of my ruger ranch. They are also boat tail projectiles. The extra weight plus the boat tail gives these some of the best ballistic coefficient out there for 7.62x39. By just 100 yards out its got every other 7.62x39 beat.

  • I think one of the biggest pro's for the .300 sub rounds is home defense. Even non suppressed they are quiet enough to be relatively discreet and minimize hearing damage when fired inside a home. The lack of a visual signature is also beneficial as I would assume most home invader situations would take place at night and having a big fireball coming out the end of the barrel in the dark is almost certain to temporarily disorient your vision , complicating engagement and also would alert an armed invader as to position. Use in a home also begs the consideration of over penetration. Almost any supersonic rifle cartridge be it 5.56/.223, 7.62X39, .300 blackout are perfectly capable of going through the bad guy, my wall, across the street and thought my neighbors wall with still lethal amounts of energy, a sub is going to hit the bad guy and stop, even if I do miss and even if it manages to get out of the house it isn't going anywhere with enough energy to do anything. Every bullet has a lawyer attached to it. My last point is that the shorter barrels and configurations on a lot of .300 guns, especially sub guns lend them to be a little more user friendly in the close quarters home situations, you aren't trying to fumble around in a high stress situation with a 3-1/2 foot long gun through hallways and doors. Just my 2 cents.

I have good luck with cast "boolits" and never intend to hunt much past 200 yards here in Florida. Accuracy is acceptable and standard deviation of velocity causes most of my rounds to be subsonic with occasional sonic crack with a temp, or humidity change. • But why? Where is the advantage of 9x39??? What does it do so much better than the ammunition that's already offered here?

  • This is a great discussion. Especially when you start talking case capacity and powder burn rate. I think when the rubber is gonna hit the road is the use of 7.62x39 ammo in the AR-15 platform. That's when you can start experimenting with different powder burn rates that can't be supported by the AK-47 platform. I have yet to see anyone trying to adopt all the varying calibers, using an AK-47 platform.

  • .300 blackout is the ideal 9.5 in barrel SBR or pistol caliber. A .300 blackout ar pistol with a folding stock fits nicely into discreet containers for life and liberty truck purposes, as opposed to something like the kel tec p2000 or anything in a pistol caliber.

  • Thought the advantage of 300 black is for SBR/braced pistol and supressed.

    • I have 300blk Suppressed 10.5-inch pistol. The ammo is right at $1.10 per round. I love it. Due to the cost, I don't go to the range with it much.

      @lastzombiehunter@lastzombiehunter5 жыл бұрын
    • Yes. Because 300blk burns powder faster so you get full powder burn in short barrels. I could be wrong but I believe it was made specifically for special forces to have a round that they could go from near silent subsonic suppressed in tactical situations to supersonic when needed if the fight goes hot.

  • Cool video. I like 300 for short barrels and the feed ramps in the AR platform. 7.62 does great out of a short barrel too even with the flame BUT I like the AK platform too much to use it in an AR. With that said the only thing I don’t like about x39 in an AK is you have to be careful with bullet selection, some AKs deform the soft points.

  • I have both now in an AR platform. Just finished the 7.62X39 opted for the 10 round mags to avoid the whole mag issue, I hope. Weather has been bad so I haven’t got to shot it yet but am excited to run it soon.
