Today I'll be showing you my all time favourite sweep and 4 ways to set it up. It's definitely tricky to land, but if you do, you'll send your opponent flying. It is also SUPER fun to try in sparring and very satisfying when you land it! 😂

I hit this sweep today!! Dude kept raising his leg to check anything, and I just went for it, dude flew!!! I literally felt like the coolest dude in the gym, gah that was awesome!!
thats awesome man keep it up bro!!
@@MMAShredded Thanks! I just realized I said dude a lot, but I was super excited haha
Love the term, "We all need to fail, to learn." ... That's why it's called "PRACTICE" despite what Allen Iverson says... Lol..
yes sir!!
Came here after seeing Petr Yan use this successfully on O’Malley last week. Just shows how effective this sweep is. My dad said it was his favorite sweep in karate and it sent people flying. Definitely gonna work this
sweet!
Its my favorite too haha. It's so beaultiful, and so satisfying to land it.
thanks for watching Vitor !
TRTitor?!?!
Here's two things I love about this video besides the brilliant technique & tips. - the fact that you share failed attempts - the hint of a smile on your face when you hit the technique. Stuff like that is so satisfying 😁
ahah thanks man :)
The switch kick set up is what buakaw does that’s where I first saw it used in matches apart from you !
sweet! everyone is reminding me I learned it from watching Buakaw, I forgot myself haha!
Sweeps are one of my favourite thing about muay thai. Such a well rounded art. No other stand up art can fuck with it.
haha yeah!!
Except sanshou, which is unfortunately so unpopular that the fighters won't be as great by pure population disadvantage, but I've just recently learned their sweeps from kick catches are way more diversified because unlike muay thai they don't forbid any sort of trips or throws. Actually sanshou is basically MMA without ground fighting
@@MaxLohMusic what about combat Sambo? I have practiced Judo and when i sparred with a Sambo guy (we were basically using catch wrestling rules) he gave me a very hard time
What are the arts that count as "Stand up"?
Thanks so much for the video! I requested this a few weeks back and I really appreciate you taking the time. As always, great detail. I will practice and hopefully hit it in sparring one day. Keep up the great work!🙏🏼
no problem Justin!!
Took a break from martial arts, and you're at 200K subscribers now? Great work man you deserve it.
haha thank you!!
Thank you so much for this channel, I’m rooting for you!

Insane bro... thanks for the tips again! I really felt the difference in my round kick to the body by snapping when my shin hits the bag! Almost instantly I felt wayyyy more power! Thanks bro!
thanks for watching Mitchell!

Thank you! I've been doing thai boxing for 13 years, mostly a coach now, and I still haven't to this day met a single person who could walk me through this sweep. I "kinda" learned it, but not well enough too teach my fighters, I feel like I can now. Thanks! =) PS. Really impressed by your last fight, your boxing has reeeally improved. =)

awesome! thank you!
Also one of my fav,tq for it jeff
thanks bro!!
I love your content so much !
thank you Alex!
My bro always being a beast!!!
thanks my brother!
I first learned this from watching you do this a couple years ago and it quickly became my fave sweep!! I love the lowkick game, that’s my shit. I eat people’s legs UP with my lowkicks, get them to fear the lowkicks and when they start checking them, I throw them a curveball and rush in and hit EM wit this sweep while they’re standing on one leg thinking they’re checking the lowkick!!! 😁👌🏼🤙🏼😜🙏🏼💙 It also works great 👍🏼 when I lowkick high, above the knee, when I’m closer to my opponent and then I can feint the rear lowkick and when they go to check it I just set my rear leg down behind them instead of continuing with the kick. After I have my foot behind them and they’re on one ☝🏼 leg checking, it’s easy to complete this sweep! Thank you 🙏🏼 so much Jeff, because idk if I would’ve ever learned this sweep if it wasn’t for you, your teaching of the technique and your channel. YOU ARE THE MAN JEFF CHAN!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I Hope one ☝🏼 day I get the opportunity to train with you in person. I’d love to go on one of your training vacays, but I’m just a poor single father, struggling martial artist. One ☝🏼 day I believe I’ll be on another level though and I’ll meet you at the top brother!! OSS!!! 🙏🏼🤙🏼💙💯
thanks for the nice comment brother!! I appreciate the long time support. I would love to train with you one day in person as well. I believe you'll be on another level one day too!
You are my inspiration Jeff, I wanna learn to fight just like you!
thank you Joshua!
Lyoto Machida has the same sweep on his training video from around 2009.
thanks! I need to rewatch his fights!
Jon Jones begs to differ.
@@juliandickerson6635 Julian, watch that fight again and tell me that Lyoto didn't win the first round of that fight.
The double switch kick set up is my favourite, nice Jeff . Good luck and keep strong in ONE Championship

thanks for watching!
It's called do gaeshi in my background style, I love it (both the standing and the sacrifice one). As always your set ups are really effective, dominating timing and distance, Bravo Warrior 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💪💪💪💪💪💪🤗
cheers!!
Here for insights to my judo! Love it

awesome! awesome Jeff, cause when the opponent remains stationary on the same spot for too long this is the best way! 😃👍🏼💣💥

Wow cool, it really works bro💪
sweet!
This is awesome!

I been doing this sweep for awhile now while sparring, its a real pisser. I usually just throw high volume high get them upright than sweep. I like your set ups thanks for sharing, good job...
Haha awesome !!
So happy I found this Channel

thanks for watching!!
Thank you so much for you’re tutorials they help so much and can you make a video on what gloves you use please!
I personally like Leone and Engage!!
MMAShredded thank you !
I learned this technique from you a while back and generally it always works because most of the fighters that I have sparred with don't necessarily study additional techniques and movement so its pretty easy to fake and execute the move. One of the first things I learned when I started fighting was that it was more so about techniques that you could study like this before you even throw a punch. I still spend countless hours just studying video because I'm more of a visual learner when it comes to fighting. Even when I watch UFC fights a lot of fighters are not as versatile as they should be so I imagine this attack would get a lot of people there too then follow up with a BJJ attack.
true! thanks for watching. I also am a big visual learner so it helps a lot by watching fights!
I adore this sweep. I learned it in Kung Fu intially in one of the silly sequence drills and thought it was useless. Then th light bulb went off when I saw you do it and learned how to apply it.
sweet man thanks for watching!
Brotha I've been watching 👀 your patent Sweep so long I use it in my sparring all the time just like your patent jumping right hand to leg kick...👍
sweet man thank you!!
the BEST mma KZhead channel
thank you bro!
A master of the craft.
thanks for watching!
I’ve been using the same two sweeps for a year in a row I need this
sweet!!
Hey Jeff, we are often taught to breathe out when throwing punches or kicks, but how would you breathe when wrestling or landing sweeps/takedowns? Thanks for your tips!
Same way.
In my opinion, probably breathe out when doing those moves too since the general rule is to breathe out when exerting force. I would say not to think too much about breathing in or out though, just let it happen naturally.
hey bro, you should breathe out when you shoot for the takedown or when you are kicking out the standing leg when sweeping!
I feel like i want to run away as fast as i can seeing this..
hahaha!
Nice bro👌 Your my teacher for now on
thank you!
Beatiful video as always! I have this question, as I know nothing about mma and very few from grappling. I see that in many cases, when you use this sweep the adversary can grapple you somewhat around the neck, leaving you (I suppouse) expose to a rear choke in mma. But in other cases in looks like something like a one handed suplex over your knee. Is it possible to land something like that? Just curious! Thanks again for the video!
it is quite difficult for an opponent to get the rear naked choke because im behind them and have their back!
Thanks a lot for your vids Jeff, here in France it's still not allowed to practice martial arts... Can't wait to be able to train again, cheers brother :)
hey bro thank you! We are actually in lockdown right now as well, but I've been looking through old footage to make this video!
Cool sweeps
thank you!
I first saw this in your Buakaw video!
ahhh that's where I got it from haha! thanks!
I like setting it up with right punches. I'll throw a straight, but more often a hook with the right to start getting my oppenent to shell up. Might even threaton to go in for clinch. Once i can predict the response to it and they shell up nice i shimmy and and lower down a little under the guard and bring my right hip and thigh around and through to go for the sweep.
sweet!!
These sweeps bro!!!! Yikes!!!! Love em!!!!
thanks brotha!!!
Imma keep trying this in the gym. Cant wait to pull it off 😂 ive tried a few times and it never worked. I think my feet weren't positioned correctly and my sparring partner never lifted their front leg which would help! Lol
Ahha keep it up!
Ahha keep it up!
this is beautiful
thanks!
i really like that one too :)
cheers!
Great video my friend.
thanks Tony!
its also called aiki otoshi in Aikido, except that aikidoka doesnt waste energy with pseudo attacks
Gonna try this on Friday
nice!
@@MMAShredded yeah I wasn't able to pull it off haha
Very good.
thanks bro!
You are a great fighter, i follow you lot of years ago, and you eeach time surprise me
thanks bro! :)
fcking beautiful. You are a beast 💪
Hey Jeff, thank you for the content! I know it may be situational, but how important or helpful is it to have that arm across the body?
pretty important!!
Thanks for the sweep tips! One question, do you only focus on MMA right now or do you still attend bjj classes to get your black belt?
right now I havnt been doing any classes at all because of lockdown haha but yes I do train BJJ classes, it is very important even if you are in MMA
I use a very similar hip sweep to catch opponents coming in. I am southpaw and I find it works best on orthodox opponents, so orthodox fighters can use it against southpaws. When they come in with momentum attempting a high kick, I step forward to meet them halfway and plant my lead foot right behind their lead foot and take their body’s impact with my hip before they fully throw the kick. You might get a bruised hip, but they take the same damage and bounce off too the ground
cheers!
Mmashredded watching time!
:)
In essence, is it like a strongly committed leg kick but with the thigh and hips? I really like your double leg comparison you've drawn with this throw. I've seen a writer call this the Wedge Throw but I like Hip Bump. Semantics. When you walk laterally to turn your guy into your throw, that is beat for beat exactly what Jorge Masvidal did to end Ben Askren's career.
haha yeah I just made it up im not sure what it is actually called!
Wow wow wow molto bravo 💯
thank you Mohamed!
Why are u so good hahaha
haha thanks!!
I copied that technique watching your videos. I love it !
awesome bro! cheers!
I hit this the other day! It is similar to a judo technique.
awesome!!
Thanks
cheers!
My friend continued
huh
Ive been watching alot of videos on yt about mma and im just so fascinated by its capabilities , strikings and technique. Im 14 but I will already start training hard to become an mma fighter one day! Thanks jeff your one of my greatest role model’s when it comes to mma
thanks Nikko, keep it up your gonna be a champ when you grow up. Starting very young, I like it!
Very well explained. The technique is a little bit nasty, BUT brings you a good feeling ^^
:)
