Anyone still enjoying this in 2024'?🤔😃😚😊
Just saying this sing or beat was bouncing around my brain for a few days and bam i figured it out and here it is going on repeat again and again
I'm here.. brilliant song ❤
Me!!!
Yes very much so. Really great song . Her voice.
Absolutely ❤
Born in 1988. Listening in 2024. One of my favorites. She crushed this
This is definitely one of my favorites as well I was born in 1980
This song is an underrated masterpiece. The drum beat, the voice, everything just works. We do not get music like this anymore.
You might like Sina Drums cover of this song with Victoria on vocals. Then check out the cover of Barracuda.
Too afraid to take risks. Thats why every song sounds the same...cause the algorithm says thats what works.
How, exactly, is it "underrated"? Two weeks as Billboard's #1 hit, a Grammy for Myles, a Juno Award for single of the year, a Millionaire Award for extensive airtime. . . It's a great song and was recognized as such. That's NOT "underrated."
It's not underrated! I was a freshman in high school when this was released. It was on the radio at least 10 times a day. Plus it won a Grammy. It was in no way shape or form underrated!
@@pricklypear7516I think he means nobody listens to it anymore
It is rare for a song to be around for over 30 years and still sound fresh. Amazing voice and lyrics 10/10 .
😩
It doesn't sound fresh but still good
A sound that will live forever. As it should! Great West Coast Swing music.
Good music doesn't fade it gets shared.
Especially when you learn through the words that it's about the life of Elvis Presley (1935-1977).
This gal was criminally underrated. What a voice!
@@Marco-vw3mv I have. She's excellent.
I can't imagine who would have "underrated" her? Radio stations played the sh-t out of this song every day.

Why can’t music be this good again
cause music is a corporation now
Yep. Produced cheaply, and like 3 companies own all the radio stations now.

This song is even super good and classic for it's time. An all time classic.
I only wish Elvis could have been alive to hear this song. The performance by Alannah Myles is both heartwarming, and heartbreaking. And, the lyrics certainly tell his story. How can you not love it?
It would be pretty cool but I don’t think this song would even exist if he was alive lol. Or at the very least this song wouldn’t have the somber tone and a couple lines.
I wish his mama could’ve lived to hear it. He truly was a mamas boy and her death led to his addictions unfortunately.
One of my aunts was an escort in Vegas, she met Elvis and he really liked her so her took (and other women) with him on a tour abt 6-8 months. Now she’s in a nursing home. I want to visit her and just hear all her stories. She fkd everyone lol of course some would be embarrassed by that but I’m fascinated!! She never had kids and eventually contracted HIV in the 80’s she’s honestly one of the nicest ppl I’ve ever met in my life- so funny too. It’s crazy to me bc she wasn’t even that pretty. She is my moms half sister. Her mom was the daughter of a chief on the hoopa reservation and her dad (my grandpa) was a Russian Jew, she had this hook nose, weird body etc but she was I guess good at her trade 🤷♀️ Lol
He heard it he just wasn't physically here but he knows its about him and still hears great music when it's made
@@Audrey_650 How do you know she's telling the truth? She doesn't sound like Elvis' type, since he liked classy women.

Fun fact this was the #1 song in the day I was born on March 27th 1990 I love it ❤ ❤

Yes ma'am, it's done that to me the past 30 years or so...
For the longest time, I didn't realize what this song was actually about. What a wonderful tribute to The King of Rock n' Roll.
Well Damn! I thought it was about Whiskey, Thanks for clearing that up!
@@brianrichter1382 you could probably still argue it's a double entendre.
The song is a paean to Elvis Presley, whose portrait was often painted on black velvet, and who used a hair dye named Black Velvet. Co-writer Christopher Ward, who was Myles' then-boyfriend, was inspired on a bus full of Elvis fans riding to Memphis attending the 10th anniversary vigil at Graceland, in 1987.
The name of the hair dye back in those days was called Black Velvet rock or black is now the term
Wow, knowing that then listening again, it's pretty clear, it's all about elvis. Thanks !
I remember my mom singing this while she'd be spring cleaning. Her voice was so beautiful.
Wow! Black Velvet my drink; Black Velvet, my song. That whiskey voice, that slow, southern style.
This song is a tribute to Elvis (the black velvet painting) not the drink.
"The sun is setting like molasses in the sky" That has got to be one of the best lines in any song I've ever heard.

I concur this is a fantastic cover of this song. Everyone has an opinion and mine is, this aint blues or the style I think of as blues.
If this isn't the blues, there ain't no such thing!
For my money, to this day Alannah Myles remains the hottest, most earthy, sensual, preeminent rock goddess to ever come out of Canada. Other singers have come and gone but I've NEVER gotten tired of hearing her voice.
