It’s a motherfriggin CRIME that a vocalist this talented didn’t achieve more fame. Just listen to that raspiness, that sultriness, the way she holds a note so softly and switches from one note to the other so effortlessly...so, so skillful.

Criminally Underrated. Astounding. Best song about Elvis by a country mile.
@no-oneman.4140 Жыл бұрын
She has a GRAMMY, two JUNOS, nominations for 17 other major music awards, and this song was #1 on Billboard. The album went platinum in almost every market around the world, triple platinum in Australia, and diamond in Canada... Now, tell me, how exactly is that "underrated"? Cheers!
@SandcastleTheory2 ай бұрын
I was referring to the song itself not the artist or the album. How many people would name this song in their top favourites. That is the point I was making. But having condescending replies like yours makes reading comments such a joy. Please don't reply . Cheers !!!!!
@no-oneman.41402 ай бұрын
@@no-oneman.4140 Apologies, if I upset you. That was not my intention. Much in the way of tone gets lost in text. My point (if only for posterity) was simply that, evidently, it was a favourite song for millions of people; and, presumably, still is. No higher standards could it have possibly met. I'm not trying to take away your love for the song, or patronize you. Not at all. I'm just saying, underrated it is not, and never was. The use of that word in general, these days, is rampant and frustrating. Whatever might be trending on modern social media, at any given moment, does not reflect the greater state of music, artists, or their fans. Cheers!

LYRICS Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell Jimmy Rogers on the Victrola up high Mama's dancin' with a baby on her shoulder The sun is settin' like molasses in the sky The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for Black velvet and that little boy's smile Black velvet with that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please Up in Memphis the music's like a heatwave White lightning, bound to drive you wild Mama's baby's in the heart of every school girl "Love me tender" leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for Black velvet and that little boy's smile Black velvet with that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please Every word of every song that he sang was for you In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon What could you do? Black velvet and that little boy's smile Black velvet with that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please Black velvet and that little boy's smile Black velvet with that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please If you please If you please If you please

Great bass line but it wasn't a bass guitar. It was recorded on a synth.
@nickriffed97752 жыл бұрын
@@nickriffed9775 I have my doubts about it. It's not impossible, but what makes you think so? It does sound like a bass, you can even hear the noise of strings being stopped on the 2 & 4.
@TobiaTesan2 жыл бұрын
@@TobiaTesan you can have as many doubts as you like, my friend, but it doesn't alter the facts. One aspect of the song listeners have frequently noted is the tune's distinctive fretless bassline. While a common belief holds that the melody was played using an actual fretless bass guitar, Myles' bassist for the rest of her self-titled album, Steve Webster, acknowledged in an online discussion forum that he did not perform the bassline on "Black Velvet" himself; rather, it was Tyson who played the riff on a synthesizer, using a fretless bass sample.[7]

Criminally Underrated. Astounding. Best song about Elvis by a country mile.
She has a GRAMMY, two JUNOS, nominations for 17 other major music awards, and this song was #1 on Billboard. The album went platinum in almost every market around the world, triple platinum in Australia, and diamond in Canada... Now, tell me, how exactly is that "underrated"? Cheers!
I was referring to the song itself not the artist or the album. How many people would name this song in their top favourites. That is the point I was making. But having condescending replies like yours makes reading comments such a joy. Please don't reply . Cheers !!!!!
Cheers!

I gave up playing bass guitar in bands 15 years ago - just got sick of doing the gigs. But every now and than I hear a blast from the past that makes me ache to play again, and this is one of them. That voice, that groove, as good as it gets!
I sang for years in bands and like you, got fed up and gave up, but when I hear songs like this, I really miss it! 😮😮
I am so greatful to read your opinion, because your opinion is of a profesional person .. Thank you so much

This song is legit my favorite from that era. I’m only 34 but gives me so many nostalgic memories of my mom playing it whilst growing up. Never gets old! ❤
Same & 34 here 🤘
If you like this, I'd also suggest you keep me hanging on by Kim Wilde
I'm 38 and when I was just little I mean like 5 maybe I can remember this song comming out and running to the tv and singing my little heart away everytime it came on. Here I am an adult and STILL jam everytime I play it. Brings memories of my childhood for sure. . My parents would get me to sing in frnt of everyone cause noone could believe I knew it all at that age hahaha crazy
Thumbs up if your superb taste in music brought you here!
Thumbs up! And not from a video game either, although GTA exposes kids to alot of great music.
yup -- I have 1,500 vinyl LPs, most from 1967 to 1989 -- a beautiful period of the most excellent music!
You bet , I give it few thousand “ thumbs up “ - my daughter plays GTA , yet she finds the old music annoying as heck . But it’s nice that they incorporate decent music into it instead of the “ ghastly, horrifying and hyper sexual “ music from the new generation of young people.
I knew this record from GTA 5, but I just came because it's so damn nice hearing a bluesy rhythm with such a smooth woman's voice like that, which isn't singing about a full-blown degrading lifestyle!
This song is timeless. I know we all agree.👍

The outcome yields such a smooth reward to us, the general public, we almost didn't notice due to the fantastic song writing. Likely some of the best musicians in the world at that time. Absolutely nothing - The bass guitar and the arrangement and obviously her voice fits together so perfectly. Still up to today, this is one of my all time favourites and will always be.
You are damn right. It is one of the best rock songs ever!!!
Great bass line but it wasn't a bass guitar. It was recorded on a synth.
@@nickriffed9775 I have my doubts about it. It's not impossible, but what makes you think so? It does sound like a bass, you can even hear the noise of strings being stopped on the 2 & 4.
