  • Watch Paul's full extended interview with Ali on BBC iPlayer in the UK: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0h59sws/ For more on working with Saoirse Ronan, getting confused with Pedro Pascal and his family's reaction to his Oscar nomination for Aftersun.

  • Paul should be the next James Bond. I think it’s a sneaky good bet too since he’s 40/1 or something like that and if Gladiator 2 is good he might get the part after proving himself in an action film

  • Am I the only person who seems bothered by the fact that he seems to enjoy making people miserable with his work and won't even consider trying new things? The comment about feeling happy about watching audience members at one of his films be upset is frankly disturbing and I believe reflects a character flaw, not an artistic choice.

    @user-yq8zb1fx5n@user-yq8zb1fx5n2 ай бұрын
    • I didn't pick up on that comment as being disturbing or even strange. He is drawn to scripts that are emotional and explore sad themes, and he likes seeing that the audience is emotionally connecting to what he's made, and sometimes that's expressed through crying. I was sobbing at the end of 'All of us strangers' but I also felt encouraged and motivated to make positive changes after watching it, so it didn't result in feeling miserable just because I was crying. I think Paul Mescal comes across as a sensitive, emotionally intelligent guy but I did find it interesting to read your comment and see how perceptions can be so different.

      @TheLadyDelirium@TheLadyDelirium2 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for your reaction and I see your point to an extent. The thing is, I believe that there are multiple ways to feel motivated and make positive changes - being sensitive, I believe, doesn't mean only "sensing" what brings pain. A true artist has not only the ability but should also have the desire to evoke the emotions you described by perhaps making the audience laugh, feel hope, be empowered, be uplifted, get excited, be afraid, get inspired, etc. and those possibilities don't just grow from tears. I, too, cried at the end of the film, as I did watching Afterburn, and Normal People. His talent is undeniable. I simply need to separate that talent from what my experience working with young people for many years is a red flag for him as a person - in short, there's nothing wrong with being pleased by watching audience reaction to his "sad" films but I truly believe he should be just as excited about seeing the same response from things that don't necessarily start from making us sad.@@TheLadyDelirium
