    • Michael F. Translation made using Google translator. This story began in the summer of 1998. From another trip to the archive, Mikhail Romanov brought information about drowned in 1943 in a swamp near the village. Ivantsevo tank T-34. We for many years have verified these data on the ground. Convinced that near the village of Ivantsevo really is a swamp, and the local residents confirm that during the war in the swamp drowned military equipment. In some place no one knows. Many times we have combed through instrumentation of the swamp. In the middle of the swamp, where the ground under my feet was shaking, weak instruments recorded the presence of metal. Spot magnetic anomaly was not very large, it is alarmed. Tried to test this place a six - meter probe- the result is negative, nothing found. The following year we came with a longer probe length was 9 meters. This time managed to reach into the nine-meter depth of the metal object. The probe she had hit the metal. Good luck! When I removed the probe from the soil on the surface of the swamp there were oil stains and strong smell of diesel! Now you need to determine the position where the depth is tank. But for our nine-meter probe a little. Again prepare extra link for our probe. It takes time. Next time you come to the swamp with 15метровым probe! It consists of 10 units. Such a long probe is very inconvenient and difficult to push into the swamp. Interestingly, the bottom of the swamp for 15 meter depth we found! But the bottom edge of the object we found at this depth. Then - just muddy slush. So, the tank is stuck in swamp bog on 15метровой mark, not reaching the bottom of the swamp that we never felt! Object found! Now we start to prepare for the main and н6аиболее time-consuming phase of the search expedition - the erosion of the well for divers and lifting equipment was found. This is perhaps the most difficult procedure, as yet no one raised from 15 meter depth of the marsh tanks. Mikhail Romanov begins to prepare the expedition. Reports about the imminent lifting of the tank to the Administration, in the media, on TV and radio. Generating a search party. Invites you to participate in the rise of the tank engines from Pskov, Velikie Luki, the City, Nevel, etc. Financed the expedition the Administration of the city of Pskov supported by the Union of Search Groups of Russia Moscow with the direct participation of its Chairman, Smirnova Yuriya Alekseevicha. To take part in such an expedition is a great honor for the search engines, and every one Michael was invited to help, without hesitation, agreed. Weather in October 2008 rainy and cold, and the roads around the village of Ivantsevo turned into clay mess.17 Oct barely reached the outskirts of the village and on the edge of the marsh pitched our camp . Began to move in the middle of the swamp necessary equipment - pumps for water supply and pumping eroded soil. rubber hoses, fire hoses, shovels, ropes and more. 18 Oct begin to blur well. The first 5 meters were easy, then difficulties began with the sixth, which serves fire hose of water into the well. The fact that in the swamp there are no trees, and we need a pole length of 10 - 15 meters. First used two 4 meter long birch, later they had to tie two 4 meters. It turned out lopsided and ugly 16метровый pole. But our structure is working, and we continue to blur the well. 19 Oct our pole begins to bury in 9тиметровой depth in the object. Suspend works, and takes out a pole with a fire hose, and with it, and miraculously snagged on a thick chain inserted into it with a crowbar. Such chains completed tanks. Now it is a diver. As always, the diving exploration performed by experienced search engine - diver Konstantin Desperate. First dive. Everyone is looking forward to the results of exploration. Slowly stretch minute. On a safety tether search engine Gorbachev Vadim. From the swamp slime bubbles rise the diver exhaled air. Even for experienced divers working at such a depth, in absolute darkness, to the touch, given very easy. Kostya should fall on blurred 9метровому well on the tank and determine its model, the position in which it lies, where it has tow hooks and is it possible for them to catch the rope. On a tether the tether can be seen that the coast has reached a depth of 9 to 10 meters. For the swamp, it's a lot. After 20 minutes safety tether twitches is a team on the rise, and we begin to help Constantine to emerge. The swamp, though blurry, but it's not water but liquid jelly and swim in such an environment is extremely difficult. Finally on the surface of the swamp appears Kostina head. Help him get to the edge of the well, opening the access of air and waiting for him to breath and start talking. Panting, Kostya says that he had reached the turret and stood on it. Square tower small, the surface is square, but its height about a half to two meters, with one side of the tower sticking out of short barrel guns. Barrel length of about 1 meter, the caliber is small. The hatches in the tower was found. Tower goes down into the depths. To the body of the tank down I couldn't. We need to continue to blur the well. Again, run the pumps and continue to blur the well to 15метровой depth. While the work on the washout, study guides for armored vehicles and trying to figure out what kind of tank with a narrow high tower with a short gun? Nothing similar in any directory cannot be found. We found a tank of unknown design! The next day the well has eroded to a depth of 15метров. Kostya is Desperate again goes under the water. For easy diver 15метров depth is the limit. Sinking, it passes some pillows collapsed with the walls of the well of the sapropel. With difficulty he penetrated to the tank. So passed the old mark of tether. On 15метрах dive stops. Is 15 minutes and the coast sends a signal to the ascent. Begin to choose safety tether and soon the coast on the surface. Again all eagerly awaiting the story of what he saw. What is this tank? The t-34 ? KV -? T-70 ? BT ? When the coast begins to speak, everyone there is a surprise. This is not a tank!! The fact that he took on the depth behind the turret, was the engine hood vertically standing heavy tractor artillery tractor and gun is the exhaust pipe sticking out to the side. Initially, the coast fell to the radiator and could not understand what was beneath his feet. When we washed away the well along the bottom of the vertically standing the tractor, he fell to his poop, and it all became clear. In any case, he felt and measured the tracks of the caterpillars. No doubt! Down artillery tractor "stalinets". In the Handbook we found its characteristics. Weight -10-12тонн! With 15метровой depth to take out of the swamp, such a machine will not be easy. He in the bow there is a large hook, this is for him and decided to hook the pull cable. The next day the coast last time submerged in the swamp. After 20 minutes, the geared cable and the insured. It is possible to raise. Kostya also examined and the aft hook. It turned out that is tied to a thick armored cable going to the depth. The rise is assigned for tomorrow - 25 Oct. And today to the evening of the Great Bow came two tractors. They will be using a chain block to pull our discovery. Unwound the ropes, catch them by sticking out of the swamp to the drawbar end. All. It remains to wait for the morning to meet the body. and news photographers, the head of the district K. V. A strip down , service and grease up and this old girl has many years left in her . And the diver having a windscreen wiper classic. Peat bogs are amazing as the lack of oxygen means that things don't rust . Still love stalinets tractors almost as much as my hankering for a uaz 452 van . Awesome machines

  • It's amazing how these world war 2 treasures can come out of the ground and they are almost as good looking as they went into their wet graves for 80+ years. Very impressive work to be able to get something this heavy and this goes for the tanks as well! How much power and effort it has to take to remove these things that have been part of the bottoms of these swamps, lakes, ponds and rivers to be able to make them move after so long! Just the weight of the mud and silt, adds to almost double the weight of some of these vehicles. Plus roots have grown into and around these things after so long. I just find it amazing that a couple tractor vehicles and a serious snatch block are really all that is necessary to make these things move most times!?! So awesome to see how they can literally just dredge these things even upside-down up to the shores and flip them over.....! The fact that once they get them in neutral position the tracks are even capable of moving as is the bogie wheels!?! SMFH! This blows my mind that something underwater for so long, somehow the wheels are still free enough to make them roll without having to be all taken apart first and lubed up. You all deserve to be rewarded for your rolls in preserving our history, especially when some of these vehicles are barely found even in museums! You are bringing back something that was once considered to be nonexistent from the world. To be able to get to see one or touch one again, has to be so rewarding feeling knowing that you found it, rescued it and able to restore it back to the best possible condition you can! Even though this wasn't a military tank, it's roll in retrieval of the broken down tanks and heavy armored vehicles was very important to keep you in the war! They were also used to make new roads and river passages for the army to keep fighting..... the Germans were burning down and blowing up everything possible with their scorched earth policy to slow down their enemies and these tractors were there to help get the roads passable again. They were just as important to the war effort as a tank was. So hats off to everyone involved in such an amazing salvage effort! I know that these things are not cheap to do!

    • Peat bogs are very low, almost no oxygen environments. In Europe they occasionally find perfectly preserved, 1000+ year old human sacrifice corpses, perfectly preserved in the peat. Very little if any corrosion takes place. That's why I cringe when I see these mad Russians digging live munitions and land mines out of the peat that look factory fresh; they are dangerous in ways that heavily rusted weapons are not.
