Welcome to another Don't Starve Together video! Today I'll be taking reworked Wilson on a no-science rush of the ruins to spank Ancient Guardian and earn some crowns before crafting a rope. Wilson's torch toss ability effectively replaces the function of a lantern in darkness and the improved duration and effect of Wilson's torches make this skill tree incredibly powerful in a ruins rush. Honestly I slept on *all* of wilson's skill trees until I actually gave them some legitimate thought. The transmutes have a lot of unique applications: Wilson's meat transmutes always yield a fresh piece of meat, so it's a great way to get value out of meat that is going off... as well as allowing Wilson to get two pieces of gold for each meat from the pig king (transmuting meat into morsels before you trade them) or two eggs from your recycling prisoner. It also makes him *much* more efficient with the crock pot, which is nice... as well as allowing wilson to transmute the overflowing stacks of stone you get form a stone fruit farm into the kind of hard to mass-produce marble... hell, with a maxed out beard skill tree and the ability to transmute beard hair into beefalo fur you can have a winter hat made out of your own beard hair and a fully grown beard by the first winter, no beefalo hunting required! The extra beard insulation is nice in winter, and I guess you can burn the extra beard hair you get by making it grow faster (it burns as well as a log for some reason), which could save you a fair bit of fuel in the long run, as well as refreshing wilson's built in 30 sanity shaving battery faster.
It is a bit ironic that the scientist is one of the best survivors at scienceless ruins rushes

@@guille6785 the goat a has arrived at the scene and I do in fact agree with the points so I guess I just got caught up with the torch being a scienceless craft and this being the only scenario where the perks really shine which is really what I actually meant, ty
Torch toss is the only torch skill I like, it's the kind of niche I enjoy in games, it actually makes the torch slightly more useful, instead of making a cheap light source more time efficient...
Great for beginners, and some neat raised skill ceiling for advanced players, great addition for Wilson

Science-less is great for getting that AG loot fast but honestly on a long-term world I'd still go for science just to be able to stay longer and clear more ruins.

In general, I don't feel like Wilson's perk tree is the best one. It's definitely not as good as Wormwood's. In any case, I think his best perks are transmute wood into 2 twigs and meat into 2 morsels. The gold to nitre receipt could also be used to mass produce nitre and therefore gunpowder. The beard insulation upgrades are nice in winter, you can get 85% of the cold protection you'd get from a beefalo hat, which means you can use a football hat and a backpack instead. Beard storage frees up an additional 3 slots. This means Wilson has a lot more inventory space compared to other characters in winter. And I guess upgrading damage to shadow is always nice. Every other perks are kinda crap.

I'm waiting for the update to be live, I'll play through with Wilson on Light's Out after getting 6 Insight from Pubs. Maybe with the Torch durability, radius, and toss it will be more useful than a lantern since I wont have to frequently go to the caves for Light Bulbs.

In my opinion the torch duration and range should apply to all sources of portable light (mag, lantern, miner hat, etc) instead of just torches because it's true that the skill is not going to be very useful later on

I think that the torch tree can be good when you enter a new world. I normally only get a lantern on day 6, with the new tree i can rely on torchs for a longer time and trow them when i need to mine or cut tree during night. When i dont need torchs anymore i just go on a wardrobe and respec.
I was doing that in the early days of the beta. It’s too bad they patched the wardrobe respec but probably more balanced.
@@JazzysGames still with the amount of points we can have (max 15) we can dump some points on the torch tab and have more than enough points for the rest, if we use the points wisely.
@@JazzysGames but still, i think they should keep the wardrobe mechanic. It makes for a more versatile mechanic, more loke wx-78 that can plug and unplug circuits to satisfy his needs.

Would it be worth the effort to make a backpack and nothing else to be prototyped in a ruins rush with the Wilson rework? I know this wouldn't be a science-less ruins rush, but I feel it would be super beneficial if this simple item was added for more storage. So is it worth it?

Why should I repair craft station, if I can just search for repaired one with chest for Matheus puzzle
With the higher chance of getting tons of Thulecite from Ancient Guardian I generally find it easier to upgrade a broken station rather than losing time hunting for the completed station setpiece. There’s also the matter of bishops and nightmare lights surrounding the station; on a longer running world I find it a sound investment to upgrade a station at a safer location.
But they still gonna burn... Lmao Sometimes I think Jazzy is a phyco ^_^

@@Limuzins afaik it's not an alternative, it's the actual plural for staff when it's about the stick and not a group of workers. no problem
@@ch1dd It is an alternative to staffs. Both staffs and staves are correct, but the usage varies between different regions, like UK and USA (I'm not sure which is more popular where, though).
@@6lancmange You're thinking of other contexts of the word staff, like in music or employees. In american english it's ~supposed~ to be "staves", even if "staffs" is normalized due to the wonders of american english spelling and technically not wrong.
