Video on the Bears offense in week 3 vs. the Cleveland Browns - • The Bears offense is a...
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has had a rough ride thus far in his NFL career. Former Bears head coach Matt Nagy and former Bears GM Ryan Pace set him up to fail in his rookie season by not providing him with the support he needs to reach his potential. Now, the new coaching staff is doing the same thing.

Man - this is a hit piece here!! It is easy to evaluate a play in hindsight. This dude took NO reps with the ones in preseason, OTA's, and Training Camp. He was completely shut down prior to getting dropped in for the Browns game. Matt Nagy might be one of the worst head coaches I have seen in my 40+ years as a Bears fan so there is no telling what preparation or expectations he set for "reading" plays, think about Trubisky in Nagy's second year. The Oline was horrendous, the coach knew it, and he never adjusted the game plans, just man-up and kill the QB. Myles Garret even said - they figured out what was going on in the first quarter and just kept running the same defense. Foles is on record knocking Nagy's game plans for not working, Furey called out the route trees they run. Last years coaching staff and front office was a joke, so much so that Poles has to carry over 60mil in dead cap space. So while there are a few bad plays/reads Fields made, I do not think what we saw last year is a fair assessment of how his skills translate from college to the NFL. The Bears were just a terrible team that he was drafted to!!!
@Ed Bait that’s not even true lol; you’re basing that assumption off of about 2-3 picks over the last 5-6 years
Denial
Owners pressure coaches in ways not designed to realize potential. Their jobs are threatened if they don't produce now. This creates a schism because working _with_ a QB might yield results, whereas telling them what to do & hoping for the best is mentally more comfortable. The coaches then fool themselves into thinking they can blame the QB & avoid getting fired that way. Ask Doug Pederson, the guy who made Nick Nobody a super-bowl MVP how that worked out when Carson Wentz refused to follow... commands. (I feel so cheap). Even though this wasn't what Pederson was doing, it kind of emphasizes the point. The Eagles invested much in Wentz, then if Pederson couldn't make their investment pay off, all other considerations went out the window. Corporate mentality. They didn't care about winning, they invested more mentally than merely financially. It's the same thing with the Jets now. Zach Wilson may well be a bust (in the same amount of starts, he's a lower-rated passer than Fields, & this is with being on a potentially Great Team this year). He's not developing along with the rest of the team. I went to Jets fan pages & suggested that, because NFL careers are short & you may not have these great players forever that they should _consider_ who they can trade for that might be able to help them win now. The responses might have been calmer had I suggested that they all fornicate with their own mothers, but a common theme was that the Jets wouldn't throw aside the development of such a high pick merely to win games. They didn't _phrase it_ that way, but you get my point. Fans evolve weird mentalities in general. San-Fran fans are *eager* to dump Jimmy G. _NOW_ despite his Physical Beauty because they want to win. Jets fans immediately create shrines to anyone who Dons The Jersey & become instantly loyal to them, like semi-rabid collies.
This video highlights the Chicago Bears weaknesses. While highlighting Justis Fields poor decisions and the failures of the offensive line play I'm sure the same things could be done with every other team in the league. Every team has some downsides too. I agree the line play was horrible and Fields missed some good options but I'm confident he will improve as he matures in this league.
When it’s Trevor Lawrence the say give him time his a rookie but when it’s fields “ as an analyst I have to be honest “ lol
Tbh, Trevor’s receivers were really really awful too many wide open easy drops.
@@billshun3963 I agree you’re right on that point but Justin had a mediocre O-line and his weapons we’re not great either so let’s give both of them time to develop and have fair critique when making analysis
@@philipnkhalamo5291 imagine if Justin have Mac Jones pocket presence and processing ability, sky is the limit.
@@philipnkhalamo5291 Also the fact that Trevor had arguably the worst coach in NFL history. Nagy is bad, but he's no Urban Meyer.
Fields wasn’t coached up either...you can’t expect this kid to be great on a team with arguably the worst coach in the NFL, and Nagy has been called out for sabotaging players. And even Fields himself, who never talks, said Nagy set him up to fail. So what is this video really all about. The bad talent in this video is the guy who posted it.
I don’t understand how 1. Not going through progressions 2. Not hitting open receivers is on Matt Nagy? Yeah the o line was awful, I’ll give you that but that’s not coaching, that’s the gm. Crazy how Nagy in two years went from a playoff coach to now seen as the worst coach in the league when he’s had absolute zeros at Qb, smh. Not saying Nagy was great, or that fields can’t take a step this year, but to blame his play all on the coaching is unfair. Especially considering Nagy knew he wasn’t ready and purposely tried to not play him for this exact reason, but bears fans weren’t having it. Then he plays bad and now it’s Nagy’s fault? It was a lose lose
@@ericrobinson7861 that’s funny that u say that since every qb that’s been added was because Nagy wanted them.
@@Lowskyy what does that matter? If he didn’t want them what would change? He wouldn’t magically get a top 10 qb just by wanting one. If it wasn’t Foles starting, who he wanted apparently, then it was trubisky, who was BAD. If it wasn’t Dalton, who he wanted apparently, then it was fields, who was BAD. Literally a lose lose both years.
Definitely a bad coach, but definitely not the worst coach in the NFL. At least, not during that season.
The same could be said of majority of rookie QBs, they all struggle when pressured.
Go check out Mac Jones’ stats when pressured
@@billshun3963 go check out mac’s coach compared to the other rookie qbs coaches.
@@judoka. the coach/GM that hasn’t gotten him any weapons, had an offensive line that wasn’t good, and overall was stuck relying on defenses? Mac was really good. Don’t act like he isn’t good and is just lucky to have a good coach
@@A_Easley i never said he isn’t good. but compared to what the other rookie qbs had to deal with (outside of lance cause he barely played), mac had *BY FAR* the best situation. he literally has the greatest coach of all time, you can’t just ignore that.
Not the good ones. Mac Jones…. Justin Herbert…. Burrow
I had no idea his tape was this rough. I was really hoping this was just a personnel issue, but it seems to be an issue with Fields' reads as well.
What it comes down to, is that Fields needed protection. Even in college he crumbled when pressured quickly. Unfortunately Chicago had a bottom 3 O-line in 2021. Mix that with literally the worst playcaller and coaching staff in the league, and there really wasn't any chance he could possibly succeed in 2021. When you put a talented player on a team that magnifies his biggest flaws, bad things happen. Unfortunately, Ryan Poles is literally the worst GM in the league and the offensive line is now far and away the WORST offensive line in the league, and unless Gusty is somehow the greatest offensive coach in the history of the league, we're set to magnify Fields's flaws again and reinforce all the negative things he learned in 2021. At the end of the day, a quarterback doesn't get drafted in round 1 unless he's a highly talented player, but the biggest predictor of success for a drafted quarterback is and always has been and always will be the coaching staff and players around him.
I'm leaning heavily towards him being a bust. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now but I was watching him play right now preseason week 2 and he looked bad.
@@threezysworld8089 He literally hasn't seen a single clean pocket yet this preseason. As I said, the Bears are doing their level best to magnify his biggest weakness.
Struggling to throw while under pressure is the biggest reason why these QBs at big universities struggle initially. The QB at Bama or OSU will have 5+ seconds to throw in the pocket, which any competent QB could thrive in that situation. That’s why I’m not sold yet on Stroud or Young next year. The games they actually faced some pressure they struggled mightily.
It's a full rebuild. New scheme and new staff. It's going to be a process this year. It's going to be rough but they are building. It's the medicine that must be taken this year. 2023 should be a year where they get some more weapons for Fields.
By that point it'll be too late. 2 full years of being plowed on every play, his first 2 years in the NFL, would ruin almost any young quarterback for life.
7:55 Robinson literally stopped his route
And this video is a lie. It wasn't always first read scrabble....and you just showed a few plays I seen all 22 of his. And what you're saying is present, but it wasn't as big nor on fields like what you're saying. And no one wants to sign a mid over priced WR. This video is horrible.
I see the bears being RPO heavy with a lot of running the football. The much weaker schedule and being more reliant on the run would get him through the season.
Hey man, love your content! I aspire to get involved in broadcasting in the future. One question: where do you get all your film? Thanks so much!!
He had one of the most unwatchable rookie seasons as a modern era qb
Trubisky's was more unwatchable, but yeh.
Agree and a huge part of that is he never threw a pass to any of the receivers he was throwing to until after the season started outside of Mooney. That to me is bad coaching because they made a statement on who was QB1 at the start of the process.
Yikes. Great analysis though. Thanks!
as a bears fan, i was just mind blown at the lack of aggression to help him out. likewise, they let go key squad vets that could help the overall roster during this hard upcoming year.
With a new management team in town, they’re gonna want to build their own team around Fields not tweak an old one.
@@johnbrowntheprophet i agree, and i do have hope for this new era/culture we could build here. but they did let absolutely everyone go who was able to leave. you’re gonna have jimmy graham trying to keep the heads up of all the young guys
@@ethanrabadan6688 - This is what happens when a new regime comes in. 🤷🏻♂️ Personally, I think they should trade everyone of value and build their offensive line first and foremost so they can at least protect Fields from potential injury. He can’t keep getting hit like he was last year and avoid injury long-term. It won’t happen.
He refuses to take easy checkdowns, refuses to stay in the pocket and just deliver the ball, he might already be afraid to take hits this early in his career, the line is garbage but he's scrambling out regardless of whether he has a clean pocket or not.
Ya facts man the bears didn’t do him any favors but Field’s tape was just brutal. He’s got a loooong way to go.
did robinson not just quit on both of those routes shown? Not disagreeing with the mistakes pointed out but robinson wasn't doing him any favors.
Over the last couple seasons, I don't think I've seen worse offensive line play than Chicago's. Truly abysmal. The tackles have been really bad two years running. And Mustipher was a disaster at center. So move him to right guard? Ugh. Maybe the addition of Jenkins at right tackle will help?
Dolphins’ O line was disgustingly bad last season
Yes but at least Miami has made efforts to bolster the offense. what has Chicago done? Bring in a decrepit Jason Peters?
Atlanta and Chicago had the worse O lines in the league. Known fact
@@ericsnyder5427 Peter's was brought in last year. He's no longer on the team.
@@ericsnyder5427 Hey man, decrepit old man Peters was the best o-lineman Chicago had in 2021.

Awesome stuff man. Earned a new subscriber. I am curious what you thought about the bears offense game plan Sunday night against the packers? Side note not a bears fan at all. Die hard buckeye fan who thinks fields has all the physical tools needed to be a successful starting qb in the national football league but plays for an organization who not truly dedicated to building around him.
Looks to me like the Bears coaching staff is keeping a very short leash on Fields and I think what they’re doing gives them the best chance to win. Run the ball a lot, and let Fields air it out on hard play action. That’s what he does best. I just don’t think this team has the talent to compete with playoff teams
They should've built the o line first. Justin should've been drafted later. A great o line could've helped a lot.
Justin probably would’ve got picked before the bears built a o line.
Woulda, coulda... shoulda.
The watching 1 target is me in madden. It always works in Madden but not irl
I watched this video at the beginning of the season and it still rings true. It has to be GM malpractice to trot Fields out (knowing he plays worse when constantly pressured) with the worst O-line in the league, and one of the worst WR corps in the league.
Thank you for being the only person willing to criticize Justin Fields. Living in Chicago all I year anyone talk about is how amazing he is and how the team failed him and he carries them on his back and making excuses for his terrible performance while refusing to admit it's terrible in the first place
Pure bullshit, that's what it, fields ain't the guy and it will come out soon.
How can I learn the shit that you know about football any suggestions?
Truth be told just in fields needs to work on anticipating his throws leading his receivers into a open area if he can do that he can be very dangerous as a quarterback
That browns game Nagy refused to add any tightends to help with the blocking, Nagy didn’t understand matching personal as well, getsky has already been fixing Justin’s mechanics ands he’s now getting the ball out with better timing on every drop back. Do your research about whats actually going on first bro
2:35 should not have been a sack
Love your stuff. Can you do a video on Daniel Jones, 🙏
So are you going to point out obvious flaws that the other rookie qbs had too or just with fields? It’s funny cuz fields had a better year than Lawrence and Wilson. Meanwhile Trey Lance is awful himself. If Fields is bad, so are the other qb’s I just named. I’m sure you’ll do your due diligence and point out the flaws of the other rookies… FOH
Blaming a single game for his habbits changing is pretty dumb
So basically you you’re saying good receivers, stud O line and limited pressures equal good quarterback play. Everything the Bears currently don’t have.
Most people called this when the bears traded up for him.
That's the thing, the Bears were quite possibly the worst possible place for him to land, given his skillset and weaknesses. Even ignoring that literally no QB ever drafted by the Bears has ever been a consistent top 10 QB. The best we've managed is an undrafted free agent 80 years ago.
Justin Fields had a bad coach (Matt Nagy) that didn’t build the offense around Fields. Give him a chance this season
Finally a spot on assessment of the Bears and Fields. Thanks
crazy that a red flag like performance under pressure can be overlooked that easily
I wouldn't say that it was overlooked. Just assumed that with support, he'd be able to overcome it.
The kid has *NO* protection. *NONE.* The least they can do right now is build an offensive line around him.
@@BillyStephens well if he had support to relieve pressure there wouldn’t be anything to overcome? Or do you mean that presence of support to stop the pressure would allow him to overcome his pressure problem by just having less pressure?
@@therealblacksheep330 are you suggesting a qb can overcome a terrible oline? Is that why mahomes looked like trubisky in the super bowl when his tackles got hurt? So he sucks too then??
@@aj1994fe I didn’t suggest anything? I asked a clarifying question?
You were talking about the salary cap hell but next off season we will have 100 million in cap space so that’s not an issue anymore
The Bears won 6 games with one of the hardest schedules last year. They didn't get significantly worse at any position other than D line. Their secondary is greatly upgraded. They have a much easier schedule. And should have vastly improved coaching. They won't compete this year, but to say Fields has been set up to fail is a gross exaggeration of the actual situation.
Pretty easy to be a decent QB at OSU with all the first round picks
🤔Fields played ONE Full year of football since High School. The fact that he was as good as he was , 2nd only to Joe Burrow, is a testament to how Incredibly Talented he is.
Oh Boy, college is a different game... you should know that by now.
Front office is more worried about making the team better. Not just(in) Fields. Hes gonna get his weapons just not this year. Too many holes to fill to be able dedicate all picks to help Fields. foundation phase of the rebuild.
Is it worth it if you ruin the best prospect the team has had in 50 years at the most important player position in the sport? Because 2 years of getting his shit pushed in every single play will ruin him permanently. The recievers are a problem, but one that can be kicked down the road. The offensive line had to be fixed this offseason if they had any hope of salvaging Fields' career. But no. Poles decided it's more worthwhile to ruin Fields and figure on drafting another QB next year or the year after that, after the groundwork has been laid.
Love the breakdown!! As a life long Bears fan, this isn’t hard to watch, just par for the course really. Folks who criticized this video, missed the preface in the intro where he talks about pressure in Fields college game transitioning to the pros. The lack of a real talent development staff on the Bears will shine even more when Mitch leads the Steelers to a division leading record. Let us not forget how he TORCHED the Bears in preseason last year. Granted it was preseason, but damn he looked good. Crazy to think a top level staff can improve players.
To be honest, it's literally impossible for a Bears staff to develop a QB (see: the best QB we've had since the 1940s was Jay Cutler and he never got anywhere near what he was before being traded to the Bears) so it's good that Poles isn't fighting a futile battle and is just accepting that no matter what happens he's going to ruin Fields and is building the rest of the team, so they can carry whatever QB is pretending to be a starting QB at that point to a playoff berth and then be irrelevant again for another half decade.
Nagy and poor Oline is to blame. He wasnt even being coached last yr.
is this Brett Kollmann?
FIelds isn't good. The o-line is just the scapegoat for his poor abilities. Every nfl qb gets pressured constantly, especially in the playoffs. The good ones can get the ball out quick. He can't
Keep playing Fields, finish last in bn your division.
Can the mccaskeys plz sell the team
can you make a video analysing watson and how you think hell do with the browns?
I cant deny some of the points youve made in this video, but youre more than likely will have to make a video stating your latter points were wrong. Ryan Poles and the oline situation might not popped out to the masses on paper, but I feel like they will have a decent and serviceable oline who the majority have experience with each other. Also, Darnell mooney, Velus Jones and Byron Pringle along with cole kemet are good weapons for fields to throw too. Also, you did fail to mention (like most of the other people that been very critical of Poles) the 2 even 3 really good running backs we have in the back field. Our line will be alot better than last year! With that being said, Dmo and herbert still had a very solid season. People are forgetting that for some reason.
I can't speak to most of what you just said with any sort of actual detail. But I get the general impression that it seems to be more of the same this year?
Watching this video after Fields broke out is weird man.
What he’s doing right now is absurd. Coaching staff finally playing to his strengths. I’ll probably make a follow up soon
The word I'm thinking of starts with the letter B and rhymes with dust.
Ok now do Mac Jones!
This is a bad take.
no it's not lol
What if just maybe he is the new Vince Young?
I'm revisiting this after more than a year. Something isn't sitting right. I haven't seen a single video that addresses the o-line issues in CHI properly. & it affects all of this. I'm gonna break one of my guidelines & link someone else's video here because I think it's important. You're aware of J.T. O'Sullivan, right? Without even trying to look for any he spots several o-line "mishaps" some of which are run of the mill ones that you see discussing why a draft pick was a bust. But then there's the one at 22.45 where the RG not only runs off his block but slams into the C kzhead.info/sun/ec2ie5Zpjax_kqc/bejne.html knocking him right off of his as well. He doesn't trip; He runs into him. There are at least three other plays in the first half of that one game alone where the o-line as a whole pretends that pass rushers Don't Exist. J.T. describes that as that Tackle "middle-fingering all the work of his coaches." Except they are _not_ reprimanded or benched. This just endlessly continues. Now I'm already close to writing a chapter in a novel so let's get to the down & dirty. If Justin _Herbert_ had said publicly that his own coaches were confusing him, Spanos would appear in the HC's office in a puff of smoke demanding to know who tf was wasting the tens of millions of $ he was spending in Herbert. If Joe Burrow suddenly started spazzing out & rushing when there was a Wide-Open receiver he Could Not Miss down the field, they'd take him into the blue tent for protocol, right? So what does it tell you when his own HC, GM & team owner did nothing for either thing? Eberflus took the extra step of chop-waving silent any reporter who dared ask him about this New Tendency Fields supposedly evolved. Did they _accidentally_ forget to deal with all of this for Over A Year? If Fields isn't broken & Poles trades him instead of the #1 pick & Fields does well anywhere else that decision could *haunt his entire career.* Could _end_ it. So does it make sense that _he _*_did absolutely nothing to prevent that possibility?_* The clues are too many to ignore. They ousted all the other locker-room leaders a.s.a.p. They cancelled all the plays that made them the #1 offense for 3 weeks straight _BEFORE_ acquiring D.J. Moore. Despite not liking Russell Wilson Sean Payton _tried_ to win with him & even cancelled all the plans to sell off the team before the trade deadline *because* Wilson was winning. The Bears? "Who tf *cares* if the QB knows what he should be doing on the field or if he is concussed." How unprofessional _is_ that? Eberflus also makes it clear he meddles in the offense, definitely speaks about deciding what plays to limit it to. Taken individually or even collectively, this is a lot of conjecture. But again, imagine Trevor Lawrence or Josh Allen pleading publicly for help against their own coaches & no one noticing? _EVERYONE_ forgot this happened, TWICE? Yeah, something is WAY weird about how determined we are that Fields is his own issue. Btw, are you _SURE_ fields had issues under pressure in college? Some nobody Yahoo named Brett Kollmann thinks this isn't true kzhead.info/sun/hNmhhcaBiqCoa6s/bejne.html. Like I said, something ain't right here. We have Video Evidence of his o-line Deliberately Sabotaging Him with plays that would get them benched off of Any Other Team being rewarded, sent out to do more. & then we're criticizing his _footwork?_ If You Had to check your o-line Every Single Play multiple times to see if you had to scramble for your life Every Single Play, yeah. Your footwork might get caught somewhere between passing & rushing. Why do you present this as if "oh, they didn't fail him This Play, so he should have been more ready to hold onto the ball, not force it" after criticizing him for holding onto the ball & pointing out that his o-line doesn't allow him that time? As if his whole system adjusts immediately to the circumstances? Maybe he's not 100% sure that he isn't about to be sacked just because he hasn't spotted a defender _yet?_ I don't expect you to Be Aware Of that Fields called out his coaches & that Poles & 'Flus did nothing, but just this expectation of Fields to step up the few times the o-line plays correctly is ridiculous on the face of it. That first link above shows they fail him _intentionally_ & often, but just irregularly enough to keep him guessing. Now imagine being the QB & *seeing* your own teammates do this to you & your coaches abandon you. Again, yeah; Your footwork may suffer somewhat.

Sadly videos like this, despite being unbiased, get absurd amounts of hate from the team's fans. At the end of the day you have to be objective with analysis and there are certainly valid concerns and critiques of both the Bears as a team and Fields as a player. Good video and it's unfortunate objective pieces like this are just bombarded with hate.
I'm a Bears fan and I'll tell you the objective truth as I see it: Fields is a bust until proven otherwise. He had a terrible season and the only saving grace there for him is that he was a rookie. Meanwhile OTHER QB's *cough cough* STILL managed to be successful under Nagy. Bears made one of the worst moves in franchise history by letting Trubisky go to keep Nagy. Now that's starting to come to fruition with Trubisky on the Steelers and Nagy as an assistant coach (not even good enough for another HC job) on the Chiefs. The Bears compounded that mistake by using picks to move up and draft BUST'in. If only they had kept Trubisky, got Nagy out, and used those wasted picks on Fields to upgrade the offense, they could be in Super Bowl contention right now.
Update. Bears still failing Justin fields.
