    • Here's the relevant quote from the "Old Man Henderson" story (which is very much relevant itself): "So he's at the office, and he meets Jim, asks him to pass along the info to Al, and then snags the scrap of the Necronomicron on the way out the door saying he needed paper. Jim failed his spot to notice which sheet he took. The GM fudged it, probably assuming Henderson was going to read it and he could kill him off via San-damage. Boy howdy, was he wrong. So Henderson shows up to the dance in his usual attire, slightly less scruffy than usual, and volunteers to sit outside and make sure punks from the other schools didn't try and gate-crash the party. The more 'proper' people were glad to keep him out, since that meant he wouldn't be able to corrupt the youth. Henderson was glad because there was no way they'd let him smoke the monster blunt he just rolled inside. I then realized, as he lit an 'atomica', as he called it (a blunt roughly the size of a cuban cigar), that there was currently only one piece of paper on his person. As soon as I found out where he was IC, I went to the school to try and prevent the inevitable. Meanwhile, Jimmy (the jock) was sitting outside, sad because his girlfriend didn't come because she was too busy being a crazy cultist. Henderson decides to introduce him to the wonderful world of substance abuse, and like a bro passes the blunt. To be totally honest, I'm surprised this moment didn't make the original story, since smoking the giant book of Bad Juju was the best thing to ever happen on accident. So Jimmy took a hit, and totally failed every check the GM sent his way. He saw Jesus, and then Jesus turned into a giant squid thing. In the deep distance, the Weed softened the blow by masking everything behind a cartoon-ey after-glow. So imagine for a moment watching Elmer Fudd scream 'Cthulhu fhtagn' and shoot Daffy in the face. Only instead of a fucked up beak and a muttering of 'this means war', he screams 'HE COMES!" and tentacles rip out of his form to molest wildlife." Story itself - 1d4chan.org/wiki/Old_Man_Henderson

    • Gurekie We all have our theories, same with opinions so let's try not to make this into an argument, c: just sharing what I think. I say since the Leper's religious, and based on the comic, he once was praised (kinda like a bishop or a priest) all around his kingdom for spreading the word of god or some religious crap, but he then fled his kingdom to find better things to do with the little time he has left in his life, so he traveled to the hamlet in pursuit of casting out the darkness from within it. And from there on out he just devotes his life to you and helping the people of the darkest estate drive the creatures and brigands away.

Exiled, ashamed, and yet still fighting to do good in the world. He comes to this, the darkest of places, to find some form of salvation or noble ending to his life. The Leper King strides forth, body empowered by the numerous chemicals empowering him and keeping his rotting flesh from falling to bits... and uses all of his might, his fury, and his Light given grace to strike down the great evil!

    • Like, that’s the main reason I really dislike the games ending. The whole time, the game deconstructs the standard themes present in lovecraftian horror, showing that humanity is not insignificant, and that, with enough sweat, tears, blood, and sacrifice, the eldritch horrors can be beaten. Then the ending comes and goes “lol nope, he’ll win eventually. Your efforts are worthless and you just commit suicide.” The whole game is a great introspective look at the ideas of mixing heroic fantasy and eldritch horror, showing that, despite how truly horrible and maddening the enemy is, the human spirit can come out on top, only to throw it all away in the last few minutes to instead use the most boring generic Lovecraft ending they can think of.

  • This...this shall be my final battle. Not a tale of sacrifice, but of triumph. My comrades and I hack our way through its false faces, my friends bewildering it with toxins and compounds perfected over years of campaigning against this monstrosity. With mere gestures, it rips the numbed flesh from my bones only to replace it just as quickly, until I feel something I have forgotten for years - pain. At long last, the walls of flesh have been hacked away, revealing the heart of evil. It boasts of being our creator and destroyer. The one that shall end all things. I lock out its voice, meditating upon my blade as every stimulant, narcotic, and anabolic known to man, and a few unknown, are wafted into my lungs and poured into my veins. At long last, the time has come. I say one last prayer to the Light, and lift my sword. For a moment, I see the confusion in the eyes of the Heart. As though it has felt fear for the first time. And my blade falls. As I stand below the gaping wound spilling lifeblood, the false god bleeding out before us, I close my eyes. I can feel my heart trying to rip itself open from the drugs interacting, my lungs heaving irregularly as the doctors prepare their antidotes and counteragents. And the sound brings me back to my youth, when a cloudburst caught me while I was hunting. One sentence leaves my lips before I descend into numbness once more. "Rain in the forest."

And considering how badly the ancestor beat me up...nah I’m sure you’ll be fine. Doctor: Did...did you just hold a grudge!? Leper: Doo doo! Duh doo doo! Duh doo doo! Imma chargin my attack!

  • The Plague Doctors weren't actually buffing the Leper. They were giving him their energy for a Spirit Bomb, which he infused into his sword to cleave the Heart of Darkness in twain from the groin up. When he said "Rain in the forest," he was referring to the rain of pure fighting energy that blanketed the world as his Sword of Hope dispersed.
